Bloodbeard:

The tower looks great...I like your idea of possibly adding some vines. Have you considered painting some moss?

Fuggit Khan
Yep. That's what I called lichen. Moss if perhaps better. Saw a guy do it to his plastic toy castle. Mixed a dark green 20:80 with water and let that run down the walls. Looked really well!

I will do the same.

I'm excited to try the vine/ivy thing. Got something like 2meter of that stuff for a couple of euro. With a spray paint and drybrush I think I'll look awesome.

Admiral:

Cats are like that. Master creatures, not to be trifled with. Vines and lichen/moss is a must! It’ll give much life to the piece. Where did you find the cheap vine/ivy? And do you have a particular link to lamp posts and pine tree? Better get them in the right scale if I’m to put in an order.

The silent tower is already an ace of a building, particularly with that rusty copper roof. Lovely terrain! And admirably cheap, too. Other cheapskates have a thing or twelve to learn from your log, Bloodbeard.

This is getting all the more impressive by the update.

The Silent Tower

Finishing this was my reward for getting done with most of the stuff for my Space Immigration project.

I’m very pleased with the result I’ve gotten on this tower. First 1’x1’ done! This will be the most time consuming of them all, as allmost everythign was scratch build. For the next tiles I have some time saving bits on hand - I think…

Info, tips, how I did it all under the photos.

The pinetree and the lamppost are from China and cost nothing at all. The tree came with snow - nice.

The Silent Tower is a Frostgrave scenario.

The archer is keeping watch on a walkway to the second level of the tower. The walkway is made from Simba Falcon toy castle, foam added on the inside.

The rust is done with Vallejo Pigment. Tried mixing the pigmint binder and pigment in a pot this time, then slapping it on.

The Wizard consulting with his Captain, if their new home is good enough.

The Verdigris cobber roof was primed light blue and painted with Vallejos Verdigris effect paint.

This Marksman is about to meet his doom.

“The backside” of the tower. The Ivy is from The Army Painter.

Side Tower walls are made from Simba Falcon Toy Castle. The inside is insulation foam. The stones around the entrance is cork. The stairway is white polystyrene steps, and insulation foam sides.

The banner is from Perry Miniatures. The put a sheet of banners and flags in their boxes - very nice! Kindly donated by Fuggit Khan.

Thanks to Admiral for suggestion picking out a few stones in different colours. Really did a lot to both miniature bases and this terrain piece.

Miniatures

These dudes are from Dungeon Saga. The Army Painter quickshade used directly on bone plastic. It was a test, worked fairly well. But would give it a bit of bone paint the next time.

Heroquest skeletons and mummies. No mummies in Frostgrave yet, but they’ll count as some other powerful undead. Added tilework from plasticcard to the flat Heroquest bases.

Heroquest chaos warriors “Krigere fra Mørkets Magter” - much prefer the danish name. Translates to “Warriors of the Dark Powers”. Statues for the Living Museum scenario, as general terrain or as animated cosntructs. The ivy is from The Army Painter.

Now to finishing a bit more space stuff. 5 space stations and some gas clouds.

Admiral:

Now that’s a proper tower! Wonderful scratchbuild, wonderful result. The ivy, moss and snow adds a lot to the model, as does the banner and different-coloured stones. You could perhaps add a wash of Devlan Mud/Agrax Earthshade to the lines between the red-blue tiles? Otherwise I’ve got no further tips to add. The stonework looks convincing, both modelling and painting, and that’s crucial for this kind of scenery. The roof crowns the whole model, and gosh does it look glorious with the miniatures about it. You’re likely to have many great games in that tower, and your mates are fortunate to get to play around with it.

Looking forward to see other ruins for Frostgrave!

Malorndk:

It’s WAAAAY better than anything I would be able to make, and it’s really in the finishing states of the project that I have thought that. The roof, the add on bridge and stairs, the cobblestone exterior, and then the effects with ivy, snow and so forth. It is absolutely gorgeous to behold

Timothy Archer:

love your tower , lots of personality ( can i use this word for a scenery ?! ) but i would like so much to see the Tree from the first page painted

not related but im always amazed looking at those skelettons to see how mantic seems to be trapped in some kind 80’s/90’s time loop

tjub:

Superb terrain!

Been finishing some miniatures for Frostgrave, Dungeon Saga and Heroquest. These have been painted in my lunch breaks at work. I’ve decided to paint in all my breaks the entire year. Some days it’s 5 minutes and other it’s 30 minutes. Will hopefully get me down in the pile of miniatures. Weathering, varnishing done at home.

Did all these zombies and the worm in one batch.

Zombie Trolls! Zombie Troll Shaman

This is Dungeon Saga miniatures. There’s also Zombie Trolls in the Frostgrave campaign Thaw of the Liche Lord. I’ve changed the arm stance of one troll with hot water.

I’m a very big fan of the Dungeon Saga bases!

Zombies!

Some Dungeon Saga zombies and old heroquest zombies. Added tile work to the heroquest bases with plastic card. Looks really well next to the others when painted.

Also changed the stances on these guys with hot water.

I went with bright different colours for the clothes, because my living warband has the same. So I think it’ll look nice when they fight.

Giant worm

This is a super cheap Reaper Bones miniature. But it such a gross monster. Paintet him in rotten flesh and with a lot of nurgles rot. Thinking this guy lives under the earth, he wont get that much sunlight. The thug is in for a very bad day!

Edit: For some reason CDO won’t show a lot of my photos. This is werid. So go to my public album to see more photos of the zombies and the worm: Here

Dînadan:

Did you post these in the DE FB group recently - sure I saw those trolls while scrolling through my newsfeed.

Bloodbeard:

I’ve nearly finished up painting everything for a complete Frostgrave Bestiary. I don’t really play that many games of anything, but it does feel good to get some stuff painted. Will also work well with many dungeon crawlers etc.

Wolves and giant rat kindly donated by Herby. The frost toad is a toy, I’ve painted up. Have a couple more I need to do. Wolverine (count as war dog), bear and snow leopard as Reaper Bones. The Gorilla is a toy.

Mortibis the Necromancer - villain in Dungeon Saga. And a Banshee.

Werewolf, tooth chest and snowtroll are Reaper Bones. The armored skeleton is an old Rackham miniature, got from a trade her on CDO.

Malorndk:

Great progress!

Cool minis with good paint jobs. I love it!

The only "weird"thing was the bright green banshee. Wil you drybrush some white on it or do you think green is just the ethereal you need?

Is that a mimic? More pics of him! Looks crazy

The light on my phone pictures are always off. The banshee model is great and actually have visible layers of green. I'm not gonna paint it any white. I've dry brushed the model with Vallejos fluorescent green. It's an awesome paint, it looks glowing! Perfect for ghosts and sci-fi, but doesn't work on phone photos.

The "mimic"? Is that the chest with a mouth model?

Malorndk:

Glowing paint sounds awesome, so its just the pics not doing reality justice

Yeah Mimics are chests with teeths.

Admiral:

Nice work on the beasts! The bloodied wolf and the Necromancer at the middle of his work are my favourites. The odd off-coloured stone on the bases works a lot to the advantage of the overall appearance, too.

Here's some more pictures for you MalornDK. It's a lovely little moddel, a Reaper Bones. Reminded me of the luggage from Disc World. Reaper Bones are so cheap I always get a bunch of miniatures when I order hobby supplies.

Admiral
The off coloured stones was your idea. Thanks a million for that! It does a lot to the bases! I paint a couple of stones in different grey, brown and red. It works wonders!

Bloodbeard:

Last night I played the first two quests in Mantics Dungeon Saga using the AI rules from the expansion Adventures Companion. They are decent rules, I had a fun time playing against the game.

A big part of Dungeon Saga is “Pile of Bones”. Markers that the evil necromancer overlord can raise as skeleton fighters. And when you beat a skeleton in combat, there’s a change it just becomes a pile of bones - ready to be raised again. In my first game yesterday this happened again ang again. Took ages to grind the bones to bone meal.

So this being such a big part of the game and me having painted most of the miniatures - I decided to do some 3d counters.

Old GW skeletons, a complete skeleton on each base. 25mm bases, plastic card stone work. My favourite is the guy in the corner, took an arrow tight in the eye and sought of just sat down to die.

This will also work as terrain for a scenario in Frostgrave. Wheel of Bones. Where cultist have made a circle of bones for some sacrifice. These will be perfect for making the center of that scenario.

Abecedar:

Nicely done.

Malorndk:

The Mimic mini is suuuper cool! Well done

The skeleton idea is pretty funny, both from a rules perspective and your hobby realization of said rules. I like it.

Admiral:

Convincing work on the bone piles, they should look good when painted. My favourite is also the skeleton who gives up with that arrow through his skull
