You can tell the difference by the axes. Any variations of these 2 are fakes, especially the ones with the hats that have been taken from the other big hat warrior and blunderbuss models.

There are actually 4 models :) and they are not recast.
3 for sure available from MO and 1 maybe unreleased can't remember.

Only two ever showed up on the GW mail order website, so how you’d order more than that is a bit of a mystery. The other two that sometimes appear on Ebay are exactly the same as the ones above but have a Blunderbuss hat and a BC hat instead. I know several people who bought the original two at the time, and none of them got the other two or even mentioned that any others were available (and they would have done if they had known).

I believe that they where available either for a very short time then the CD got pulled. Or someone was listing them as unreleased. I got both but need to search in my boxes will take some time with about 20000 pieces to sort through...
After doing two such great sculpts (CD-A and B) - I won’t (unless someone can show us some hard evidence) belive that GW would ruin such sculpts by giving them the stupid looking BC and BB hats.
I own this one:
And judged from the quality of the metal (yellowish, white metal) - I’m convinced that my model is a recast. Have had about a dozen of these in my hands (from different sources) - all made of the same odd looking metal - so have always thought of them as illegal recasts.

These are my thoughts exactly. I find it hard to believe that there are any more official GW chaos dwarfs out there that i havent seen yet or heard of (apart from any models being made right now for a new army book)

Yellowish metal is very common from first white metal cast from GW I can send you dozen of sealed blisters with yellowish minis in it from that era :)
When GW went from Lead/Tin to Tin/Anthimony they first casted in the US using a teflon spray before going back to talc. these minis with age become yellow. So color is not a sign of recast. And believe me there are models out there that Pyro hasn't seen :)
Does any one know of the newer Chaos Cannon with a serpentine tounge? Well I have seen it and from one of the GW chiefs :) and no conversion.... I had also a pic somewhere need to search for it.
Pyro as said you might be very knowledge on CD’s but as said there are models out there that not even some of the GW staff knows about. Here is an example the cannon below was sent to the former Italian event organizer before the release to be painted… but seems like to some casting or boxing issues it was changed to the actual version. And yes this is not a conversion I am 110% sure of it due to the source. There are proably only 10 of these floating around and I am beeing trying to get the one in the pic for the past 5 years now.
same as the ones i got from mailorder us crafty little buggers my little bros got a couple of units of them up at his farm,trying to get him to join this site he has about 15000 points of big hats and a huge hob gob force to melt in with it come to think about it ive also heard rumers of a alternate big hat sorcerer with a different staff same pose never seen it so i cant confirm anyone else heard of it cheers for now long live 2nd/3rd edition and the glorious minis that came with it
Non of my 3 models says CD-A, B or C on their tags.
All has CHAOS DWARF on the front and then (c)1995 at the back - all written with a funny looking runic font - so no help here :~

Ive never heard of that before but it sounds cool. I might post on the CCM Yahoo group and see if they know anything about it.
I suppose as an example of an outrageous upper limit, theessexgirl (who we know all too well), has one of these guys currently listed for £15.99.

Oops I just bought one of these from the afore mentioned rogue. I had never seen these figures before so was KEEN to get one. Nobody seems to mention how mis-shaped their hats are. I certainly will not be paying £15.99 for the other one, maybe £10 at a push!

How is that hellcannon any different? The only thing I can spot is the tongue, which could easily be greenstuff?

As said I have seen this model in person... second the owner at the time was a GW employee (not sales man) and everyone in that room (all working for GW and some of them quite often mentioned on WD to give you an idea) also affirmed that the cannon was sent to him months before the release and the thounge was in place and metal :)
It is 100% sure that the model is not a conversion and my "sources" confirmed that it was the first set probbaly only 10 or 20 made it out of the shop.
Believe me there are amazing things that are done in the GW Studio that we will never see :)

P.S> Pyro I might be wrong looked at my boxes and I only have 3 version of the axeman so total 3... not sure I recall 4 of them. But I might be wrong... must be age or seeing thousand of minis every month. But looking at my models they do not seem to be conversions and if they are they are done by a professional. I will research for the 4th model and see if I misplaced it in another box.
