[Archive] Chaos Dwarf Spaghetti

Abecedar:

I agree that they are great scroungers. And if they get too smart they’d get squashed

would look good as a pod racer too

Pappa Midnight:

I really like the bolt thrower. It has a definite gobbo junkyard feel to it.

BTW: It wouldn’t look out of place in a 40k Chaos Squat army…

Jackswift:

Really like how the scratch-built Bolt Thrower came out. :hat off A very different but still very CD hobgob fitting take on the model. Great use of bits in a completely unique manner. Look forward to seeing it painted.

Roark:

All this stuff is fantastic, but that BSB is mindblowing. Love the incurving horns!

Admiral:

Top unique scratchbuild!

Skink:

Quick question.. You have to bake the Sculptey after shaping it, before applying the greenstuff.. don't you?

Abecedar
Yes sir! I am not sure of what would happen if you bake green stuff...

Now, my army´s bolt throwers look very advanced, yes. But in the end they are just glorified harpoon guns, happily put together by over excited Goblins who are barely tolerated by the Chaos Dwarfs to tag along during battles. Of course, they are still Goblins! As such, they are definitely NOT good at taking care of their creashunz. This is why the whole thing is covered in layers of rust:

So, the Goblin skin tone is different from the Hobbo one. This was done in order to show that these guys are a complete different race, namely Goblins fascinated by Chaos Dwarfs that are allowed to use junk and build stuff. That said, in real life the skin and the reds have much more depth than in these pics...

I wish I could start working on the second one right away (the 9th age allows max 2 BTs)... But I am missing some Goblin bits to do so :(

Nicodemus:

Great look to these, I really like 'em!! Good to see some of the other Greenskin slaves are still around in other folk’s armies too :hat off

Love the colour choices and paint job too!

Oh my, that´s quite the praise coming from you! Thanks :hat off

Now, do you remember my Immortals? Posted in this blog´s first page? Man, what was wrong with me? Seriously. Grey armor? Orange weapons? And those bases? Ugh. They needed a restyling. Badly. Especially because in the 9th age Immortals are rock hard and can dish out some serious pain! So…

?oAs you can see we are now proceeding to shape the metal? explained Grugoth. ?oOf course, only blood from the healthiest prisoners will be used to temper the steel?. His interlocutor listened to his words without much interest, observing absent-mindedly the Daemonsmith´s assistants, who were creating suits of Infernal Armor and Ensorcelled Weapons for her and her unit. She was Grulka, one of the leaders of the mighty Immortals, and she cared little for the quality of Grugoth´s work, for all Daemosmiths knew that providing the temple with flawed steel would lead to a swift judgement and painful death.

- ?oOf course, we must discuss the payment? said the sorcerer.

- ?oThe Temple will provide as much gold and slaves as required? replied Grulka mechanically.

- ?oI do not wish to private our most sacred of places of the means to honor our god properly. But perhaps with your help I can capture more prisoners to sacrifice in His name?.

- ?oOnly the High Sorcerer can decide when the Immortals march into battle. Our main duty is to guard Hashut´s most hallowed places? snapped Grulka, irritated by the Daemonsmith´s not-so-veiled request.

- ?oI see. But it is also written, is it not, that every Dawi Zharr should service the Father of Darkness as best as he could? I know that Rykarth, your commander, sacrifices dozens of captives in Hashut´s name when he returns from Gorth´s expeditions…? Grulka did not reply, unsure of what to make of the Daemonsmith´s statement.

- ?o…I can only imagine the status and glory that an Immortal could achieve, should she bring riches and slaves in numbers to the fire altars ? continued Grugoth, whilst reaching for a long and narrow box of blackened metal. ?oGoes without saying that such a mighty warrior should use tools befitting to her status? added the Daemonsmith revealing the content of the box: a blunderbuss encrusted in glowing runes.

Grulka stared at the weapon for a long moment, her face impassable. Then, without saying a word, she reached for it and left Grugoth´s forge. Behind her, a sinister smile creeped on the Daemonsmith´s face, for he knew that his plan had worked just as predicted.

There, much better! I had to re-paint weapons, armors, beards, add five more men to the unit, do the bases, and re-paint Grulka… Speaking of her, I accidentally put an evil scowl on her face. That was totally unwanted, but boy does she have an attitude now!
Lovely looking miniature. I especially like the rust effect and the base.

Pappa Midnight
Thank you buddy! I actually used your technique to make these guys´ armors: Ironbreaker → Tamiya clear red wash → Nuln Oil wash → Runefang Steel + Evil Sunz Scarlet highlight. Looks incredible! Thank you for it :cheers

Now, I only wish that this unit does something on the battlefield. Every time it gets deployed my opponents do whatever it takes to avoid engaging it…

Wow… :o

Grimbold Blackhammer:

Gotta love that style! Nice upgrade!!

Admiral:

A grand update to the merry band. Wow! Delicious work all over, not least the freehand runes on Grulka. You really have a steady hand for such fine work!

Also, nice story pulled off in a most appropriate manner. Corruption is most suitable for the evil stunties. Scribe’s Contest next with that penmanship flair? :stuck_out_tongue:

Malorndk:

I really liked the original paint job as well. It was clear and directly translated the immortal feel of rock hard, armored stunties with magical weapons. But in hindsight, they did need an upgrade, at least the bases, which look splendid now. The freehand on Grulka is splendid, and I like the new theme better, but I think the camera has some wonky lighting issue which muddy the colors quite a bit. If they look as clear as your average paint job in real life, this is truly an insane upgrade, and I would love some more pictures with some better lighting because the look sick Skink
