tjub:

Wow, awesome bases!

Skink:

Ahoy everyone!

Hereby I present you my almost 100% scratchbuilt Hellcannon, 17th Golden Hat winner!!!

I’m flattered that you all voted for my creation. I’ll post a couple of words about this boy tomorrow including a brief explanation on how I built it, and from where I took inspiration. Expect to see some WIP minis as well! I have a fully converted Magma cannon, Blunderbuss unit & Hobgoblin Khan that wait to be painted!

Bassman:

Yes, I want to see a wip of this big gun.

The base is amazing but I have to admit my doubs… being mostly covered by the gun is a little of a waste…

I know it is a pleasure to paint it but I do not get the point of it.

The gun is beautiful. Where did you get the wheels?

You cheated with the crew dwarfs… they are just blunderbusses!!!

Compliments for the Golden Hat, really well deserved.

And the thropy is back to Italy

Borador:

Congrats, that base is lovely and so is the gun!

Bolg:

Congrats again and I’m looking forward to all WIP shots and build info you are willing to share (:

DAGabriel:

Congrats, really cool work and one of my 3.

CopperPot:

Really cool conversion love the base :cheers

Skink:

Thank you for all the compliments guys!

Bassman: Yup! Blunderbusses! The crew is still under painting! :stuck_out_tongue: And the base just looks small, as this thing is huge!!! Anyway, you can’t tell it by the photos but the relief on the base is visible through the chassis. And the Hellcannon itself isn’t glued on, so, in case it is going to be removed as a casualty, I can leave the base in place like a piece of terrain.

Now, I’m afraid I don’t have any WIP shot of this thing but I can explain you how I built it:

1: The spikes. These were made with 8 copper rods cut at random lengths (I wanted to give a chaosy sensation to the viewer), topped with a small green stuff pyramid! To make these I had to roll small cones of Green Stuff, and cut them in shape. The cones are pinned to the copper rods and the copper rods are pinned to the barrel for extra durability.

2: The copper ring. This is made with a flattened sausage of White Milliput that I rolled around the barrel. Once dried, I cut the edges with a blade, to get them sharp. Finally, the bolts were obtained from small discs of green stuff cut out of a sausage.

3: These bearded skulls were on top of the classic CD Lord on Great Taurus. The other set is now the standard top of my Blunderbuss unit.

4: The cannon’s mouth is made out of two plastic sink washers which I bought for 1 Euro. They are glued one on top of each other. The orange lightnings are freehands, and they help tying the gun with the rest of my army.

5: This small skull is taken from the head of a 5th edition Chaos Warrior’s Halberd.

6: These bits are all part of the original Hellcannon. You see, I don’t actually like that model, especially the furnace, and I always wanted a gun similar to the old Earthshaker for my army (so characterful). Still, these pieces came all in handy.

7: The barrel is a bulb socket, a suitable fat and short one, covered in white Milliput. The beaten iron texture was obtained by actually beating it with the back of a brush.

8: The chassis is made of White Sculpey, a cheap and useful putty that stays soft until it gets baked in the oven.

9: Iron Daemon wheels. Now, I own the model but… I’m not 100% satisfied by it. Granted, the sculpt is amazing, but I’d love my Iron Demon to look more like a train rather than a tractor. This means that I cannibalized all the ID bits to make other two minis.

And that’s it! This is an extremely easy conversion that anyone can attempt. Ah, the orange lighting on barrel’s top was made with Green stuff.

fairoaks024:

very cool, thanks for the how-to on making it, stunning work

Skink:

Thank you mate

Actually, I’ve seen a lot of positive comments regarding my bases, would you guys be interested in a tutorial on how to make them???

Borador:

Hell yes, tutorial please!

Sherlocko:

Congrats! That is really an impressive piece and so deserving. And the breakdown on how you did it was really intresting.

brotsorrow:

WOW!!! I love the colour scheme as it is unique and looks great! I thought i was daring because i wanted to do snow bases for my army. Congrats and thanks for sharing

Thorin:

Great work all together!!! Beautiful painted :hat off

Da Crusha:

great Looking cannon! Id like to make one of my own if I could find the time. it has so much resemblance to the old earthshaker model, I love it.

DAGabriel:

Happy BDay! What do you present us with???

Skink:

Thank you mate! :cheers

Well, I did painted the Hellcannon crew… And I converted a Magma cannon. I can post WIPs later on today!

Skink:

Hi guys!!! Recently I put myself together and worked heaps on my Chaos Dwarfs!!! Right now I’m going to post some WIPs, but I also painted the Hellcannon crew!

Anyway, first of all I managed to get my sweaty hands on 33 OOP CD Warriors. They were covered in lumps of ugly paint, but thanks to Pyro and his tutorial, I managed to get these:

They are being painstakingly ranked up, and (slightly) converted:

Finally, I used some spare Iron Daemon & Hellcannon bits to make myself this:

Here’s the base:

Time of Madness:

Love the bases! Is that plasticard on top?

Time of Madness

Skink:

Nope! That’s sculpey, a fantastic clay that keeps soft until you bake it in the oven. I make tiles of different thickness and, once hardened, I gently scraped them with a plastic cutter in order to make the rocky texture. Check out what some crazy people can make out of it here!!!
