For the last few weeks I have been getting ready for the tournament at the local gaming shop at the end of October. I am the only CD player in the area, so I was looking forward to seeing the looks of confusion when I showed up with my army.
Now, I stopped in the other day to pick up paints and just offhandedly remarked that I was looking forward to bringing my Chaos Dwarfs to the tourney. They quite bluntly told me that they were not allowed as they don’t have a codex. I was so floored all I could say was “Oh” and pay for my stuff and leave.
By the time I got home I realized I really should have put up more of a fight. I mentioned this to the guys I normally war with and they are so PO’ed by this that they are talking about pulling out of the tournament. This isn’t a GW shop, they charge $40 each to enter and the only prize is a battalion box, so I’d imagine that they’d want as many participants as they can get. Now before I go barging back down there to plead my case, I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether or not GW allows Chaos Dwarfs to be used in the Grand Tournaments? I’m sure I read that they are allowed in the US Grand Tournaments, but I’m unsure if the same goes for Canada.
US and Canada both support Chaos Dwarfs as a valid army… only the UK has anounced that they are not supporting it to my knowledge…
I would print off the rules from GWs US website as well as the errata and take it in… and BTW it has an Army Book… its called Ravening Hordes. and it states in this book that these list are get you by until the actual books are printed… as there has been no chaos dwarf book these rules are still get you by and as such valid. If he says that he isnt allowing them because their rules were for 6th edition remind him that High Elves, Dark Elves, Skaven, Vampire Counts, Beasts of Chaos, Hordes of Chaos, Tomb Kings, Bretonnia, Dwarfs, Dogs of War, Ogre Kingdoms, Lizardmen & Wood Elves should also not be allowed to play as the only Army books so far written for 7th edition is Empire and Orcs & Goblins
Aha! I knew it! Thanks Servius, hope you don’t mind but I may need to quote your argument word for word. Unfortunately they have terrible hours, so it may be Thursday or Friday before I can get in to talk to them. I’ll call in the verdict.
In UK stores they are allowed and Im encouraged to bring them to battle with :cheers
UK GT is a no though :mad
Look in the ravening hordes it does state that the rules are to be used until a representative army book is released, seen as we dont have one yet they are obviously our legal rules :hashut
Don’t let him push you around for the reasons that others have stated. Show them the rulings the poceed to mop the floor with your pathetic opponents! Good luck and may Hashut show you favor in crushing your enemies.
What were the reasons he said you're not allowed to use the CDs?
Traitor King
Id like to know that too.

The reason he gave was that A: they didn't have a codex and B: they were not a supported army.
I was too shocked to put up much of an argument, but I'll be going back later this week to state my case.I think that this may be the first time they've seen chaos dwarfs, so they may not even remember that they have a list in Ravening Hordes.I'm sure I'll have no problem getting in once I give them the facts, but if that doesn't work at least theres the threat of having to refund $200 in entry fees if my group pulls out of the tourney :hashut (not that I want my group to do this;I'd rather they play and take top three spots again like we did last year, but I can't talk them out of it)
To be fair, it can’t be easy running a tournament with CD in it.
Imagine if questions start coming up about whether BC count as infantry or cav or one of those other curly issues. The tournament organiser would need to download the army list and FAQs before hand to make sure he didn’t get tripped up.
I sympathise with your predicament (it has happened to me too) but most of the problem stems from GW’s lack of support for CD rather than tournament organisers.
Goodluck with arguing your case dude, I hope you get to play the evil little stunties (and win).
You want to download the Players Guide for the playable Army lists.
If they hadn’t been willing to register with the league, they could at least download the tournament organisation rules and such so that they are in line with the official GW Canada practise.I realise, "I play GW Game but I hate GW so I am not going to see how they are trying to help me…"is an acceptable excuse in the community, but I find it frustrating in this case. They even have a “help” line and email to answer questions. Are they not going to support the new HE book either?
If they are doing a HoH tournament, and trying to ban CD, print off the players Guide and ask why they aren’t following the tournament rules.GW Canada actually made it fairly easy to run an “official” tournament.More fun as well, as you get points for painting, sportsmanship and the like, so it isn’t a colossal cheesefest.
They have a help line that you can call if you run into problems such as the BC, and it worked well enough when we tried it out.BC are single model cavalry in Canada when I had them adjudicate it for me.Maybe the line didn’t work well, as I hate the single model cavalry response, ;)but at least we had an “offical” response immediately. The phone number and email are on the web page if you have any questions. They have always been very responsive for me, as has the Direct Services line. They did refuse to give official pronounciations for Tzeentch, however.
actually i could see it… GW’s main excuse for not doing the Chaos Dwarfs was fear that the model line would end up being a wasted effort and not stem enough interest with the players. Something like what they did with Zombie Pirates (I.E. Rules as a Chronicles Article accompanied with a conversion Article) wouldn’t be unprecedented. Or even what was done with the Blood Angels (Fluff in one WD rules in the Next) We will just have to wait and see.
Like in the old Slaves to Darkness book?
I could live with that, although it would probably mean losing the ability to field greenskin slaves (mind you we'd be able to field beastmen instead :D )
As I have a fairly decent sized (20,000pts inc unpainted models) chaos army already, I’d take the chance to swap greenskins for chaos units any day. I wouldn’t want chaos dwarfs to lose their distinctiveness though
If they became part of HoC they would loose a lot of what makes them unique I think. But I cant see that there have been many implications of us actually belonging to HoC. I know we made the Hellcannons for Archaon but we sold those to him for a very very steep price. Not very likely we would have had the opportunety to sell them if we were his allies. In that case he would most likely just have taken them.
