Father Grumpmas:

From the discussion about ogres and chaos dwarfs

Auretious Taak
I am pretty sure there is some old fluff about halflings and ogres both being one of the last races engineered by the Old Ones, both being specifically designed to be resistant to the effects of Chaos, hence their links through a shared heritage.

Father Grumpmas
As far as i recall it was only halflings as halflings are completely incorruptible by chaos. There are no chaos halflings at all in the warhammer world - anyonbe that makes chaos halfling models does not know the fluff at all. Chaos Ogres exist, so much for incorruptibility in them!

Auretious Taak.
I know that Citadel produced the Psycho-hobbits (who look pretty chaotic to me) but does anybody else have any pictures or background fluff for Chaos Halflings/Hobbits (apart from Gollum :D)

Willmark:

Snotling used the armored one on the left in his army. Who makes it?

wallacer:

I didn’t even realise there were Chaos Halflings.

Uzkul Werit:

I need those two puppies for my Mordheim warband!

Willmark:

There is a certain pitfighter/Mad Max- Thunderdome quality to the armored one.

Models maybe, but we're talking WFB NOT LotR's Halflings. I can't remember where it stated that Halflings were incorruptible to the lure of Chaos, it was with background to the Old Ones...looked up on the wiki under WFB we get this paragrapgh:
Chaos was introduced into the Warhammer World by the "Old Ones"; star-travelling gods responsible for the creation of most of the setting's sentient races. These Old Ones were brought low by the daemonic forces inadvertently unleashed by the collapse of their Warp Gates (one at either pole), leaving their creations to fend for themselves. This backstory also provides an easy explanation for the variety of familiar fantasy races, and provides a logical framework for them to fit in. Ogres and Halflings, for example, are closely related. Both are resistant to the mutating effects of Chaos energies (fuelled by hearty appetites and efficient metabolisms), but have opposite physical templates.

The wiki, we are taught at university, is NOT to be relied upon, but this at least confiurms initially what I was saying.

Thommy H:

The link between Ogres and Halflings is not “old fluff”, but a totally up-to-date, confirmed part of both races’ backstory. I’m pretty certain it’s mentioned in the 7th Edition rulebook.

Bear in mind that they’re resistant to the mutating effect of Chaos - that doesn’t mean either race is totally immune to it, or that they can’t serve the Chaos powers. Obviously there are Chaos Ogres - these are just Ogres who migrated to the Chaos Wastes and have, over generations, begun serving one of the Chaos Gods rather than the Great Maw. No mystery there. Some of them have mutations, but they’re not nearly as affected by the insidious warping energy as humans.

So, if Chaos Ogres are possible, then Chaos Halflings are too, in theory. The question is why a Halfling would ever willingly serve the Chaos Gods. They might conceivably worship Slaanesh, but they have no talent for magic, dislike pain and discomfort in all its forms and are generally meek and peaceful. Also, Halflings aren’t hardy enough to survive long-term in the Chaos Wastes. So it’s possible…but highly unlikely. There’s nothing to say it can’t happen, but don’t look for a Chaos Halfling unit in Warhammer any time soon.

Father Grumpmas:

The interesting thing about halfling stats in WFB is that they are only T2 - most roleplaying/gaming systems give them a higher “toughness” score, normally based on the stout performance of the hobbits in the Lord of the Rings.

I could imagine a coven of Slannesh worshipping hobbits, all into depraved feasting. There was even some recent fluff about the Moot in the WD which mentioned it was a slightly disturbing place at night - might have been in the article about the halfling rebellion (the one with the variant ogre army list and the soup tank).

Kera foehunter:

That sound cool a evil hobbit!! even better a halfing hop up on mushroom would be even better !! a fanatic halfling

But less hit points, or some sort of scale penalty because they're half the size of most other races. Warhammer just rolls all that stuff into a single stat. I don't think anyone would really dispute a three foot tall fat guy having lower Toughness than a trained human soldier.

Cannibalism!! Well, the Chaos Dwarfs will put a stop to that when they enslave the halflings, burn the forests to ash and turn the moot into a vast industrial wasteland. Serves 'em right, cheeky blighters!

Kera foehunter:

Don’t do that there the only one that look up to us!!!

grunts:

haha. if you want evil halflings, just play Overlord: Raising Hell for the ps3. little buggers have a taste for peasants.

wallacer:

If you really wanted to use Chaos Halflings a lot of the old Chaos Familiar miniatures would serve the purpose. Some of the old third edition CD could probably be made to pass as halflings as well (boy am I gonna get it for that one…)

You sure that's such a good idea? I mean we will just end up getting our bones broken by sticks and stones and probably even a few arrows when they rise up in an unexpected show of heroism inspired by the timely return of some obscure "hero" or other. Probably Lumping Crook's Fighting Cocks. And then everybody sails away to Ulthuan.

Willmark:

Heh chaos halflings, if thereis a race that is as neglected as us in Warhammer it’s the halflings. Used to be you could field many of them, the were the best bagage guards in the world in 3rd edition when you actually had to place baggage gurads/a camp on the board.

Thommy H:

I wrote a Halfling army list recently. It was pretty much just a series of jokes about the English rural classes and Lord of the Rings. Magic items included different kinds of beer, “Fred’s Magic Ring” and a red coat for Lords and Heroes that improved Leadership but made Wood Elves hate the wearer. There was also a “chariot” - a supplies cart - that made all Halflings within 12" Stubborn because of their dedication to protecting the food and drink.

Oh, and my favourite unit was “Brawlers” - they were a mob of drunken Halflings that were supposed to have stumbled out of the pub to fight. Their champion upgrade is “Landlord” (this joke might not translate).

Also, they could ride swans. Swans are pretty terrible, but they do have the killing blow rule (because, as we all know, a swan can break a man’s arm).

Uzkul Werit:

Thommy H, as the resident Halfling nut may I have a look at that list?

Okay, this is veeeeery WIP. Literally an incomplete first draft. It's lacking some magic item categories, the "Lore of Esmerelda" alluded to in the Wise Woman entry and some of the points costs are missing too. I wrote it when I didn't have net access, otherwise I would have referred to Avian's unit design rules to work out some points cost. So don't go quoting points or rules and saying "this is unbalanced!" because my answer will just be a cheery "yeah, probably!"

Download at your own risk, in other words.

Uzkul Werit:

Cheers! Now if only I could get a load of Halfling models …
