AGPO:

And I was promised by managers of GW that the SoC armies would continue to be tournament legal after the campaign ended. It was what a year before they banished them in the UK and started banishing them in the rest of the world.

It's a shock that the Chaos Dwarfs list in Ravening Hordes lasted as long as it did.

BilboBaggins
I'm pretty sure if you could find that printed you could insist on using them at GW events, as it's technically false advertising and illegal

Willmark:

If you live in Australia you have an argument since that is the only place the lists is still up. Otherwise not so much I’m thinking.

BilboBaggins:

I have the SOC and Lustria books. I’m going to go through them with a fine tooth comb and tag the page where it says they are tournament legal (if I find it).

Now how does the Daemons of Chaos book compare to the SoC Daemon list. I’ve heard that they made them even better than the vicious SoC version.

DoW players/fans should have been worried when the SoC lists did not allow DoW units. Only the Dwarf book has the DoW option in the list.

two_heads_talking:

Look, unless you are playing in a tournament or your friends are jerks, you should be able to play with any army list. I still use my cursed founding rules for my black dragons in 40k and I used Dogs of War and Chaos Dwarves all the time. I sold my slayer army, or I’d use that too.

Everyone thinks that Gw is catering to tournament players and even the design studio is trying to let everyone know, that’s only about 5% of playing community. There was a time (3rd edition 40k and 5th edition fantasy) that the game was geared towards tournaments, now it is not. So, dust off those models, play them in friendly games and tell the closed minded monkeys to just walk away. It’s not a tournament, so what’s the big deal?

Maul:

DoW as the ultimate beginners army

Actually, if you think about it, DOW are the most flexible army in Warhammer, but they are not the master of any style of play.

DOW would make a great army to put in a starter box. That would be a good way to get some plastic pikemen in production and maybe even some better looking crossbowmen.

Could be a unit of pikemen, crossbowmen, cannon, and paymaster & or general on steed.

If we are wishful thinking, then throw in chaos dwarves as the enemy. CD warriors, blunderbuss unit, hobgoblins, and maybe a bolthrower or death rocket. I would pay $75-$85 US for that.

I do play my Slayers and Chaos Dwarf armies at GW in friendlies. But the Tournament legal idea is being passed down to newbes who hear about my Slayers and say they aren't legal. I remind him they aren't currently allowed in tournaments but are legal for friendly games. Just like the Empire Army of Nuln was legal for friendly games. Never faced that list, Handgunners, Cannon, Handgunners, Mortar, Handgunners, Cannon (Cannons are core in that list.) A friend has gotten close with the current Empire book, 2K army of 17 units of handgunners (each with champion carrying Hochland) and a Engineer with Hochland. When asked about magic defense he stated 18 hochlands (S4 -2AS hits individual models at long range on a 5+ and no "Look Out Sir") was all the magic defense he needed.

Most people are impressed with my Slayers and Chaos Dwarf armies and love to see them on the board (even some staff at GW) playing. It's just I would like to be allowed to use them on the Challenge Board. I have two tokens (Empire and Dwarf) that I could use and was told shortly after SOC was over that I would be allowed to use any Dwarf or Empire list. I have to check to see if that is still the case. If it is than the Slayers will attack the board, most of the bottom rank is Warriors of Chaos. That could be fun.

It may not be a tournament but if I only play with a weird set of house rules how am I to be able to ever play against a new opponent? It is already difficult to teach people one set of rules without introducing additional houserules.
E.g. I have 2 gaming groups as I spend time away at university. And we usually visit tournaments in 2 countries (living in the middle of them) to avoid having to see the same ugly mugs all the time.
It is one of the biggest differences between WH and D&D e.g., you can and might need to be able to play with someone else than your closest 3 buddies.
In fact it is one of the strengths of WHFB versus many other games, it is sort of a basic principle that you should be able to play against someone you don't know very well. That's why we have a rulebook and armybooks after all.

But the Dogs of War (Chronicles 2004) , Chaos Dwarf (Ravening Hoards), SOC and Lustria are not house rules. They were books issued for Warhammer version 6 for tournament legal armies. They are still playable under version 7 because they follow the rules of 7th Edition Warhammer (which was only a minor change from 6), Yes there are a few special rules for some units, most of the army books have units with special rules (Examples: Helblaster, Hell Canon, Black Orks, Night Goblins, Zombies, Etc.).

If you are like me and carry the rules for those armies with you (right with my Warhammer Main Rule Book) and you printed the FAQs/Erratica from GW there should be no problem playing anyone, anywhere and anytime. So why bar them from tournaments other than GW wanting people to spend money on new armies so the old ones collect dust.

Because GW can't see the forests for the trees.

Also of note a URL change: http://www.dogsofwaronline.com things are progressing helping the other beleaguered army of Warhammer!

Kera foehunter:

i though gw can’t see the tree because there are so many damn elves!!

BilboBaggins:

I thought is was because of all the Warriors and Daemons of Chaos that has blinded them. :hat

Joshmohr:

Speaking of Forgotten army’s, Daemons of Chaos. No one play’s them, but they are able to be used in 40k AND fantasy.

Great for a tight budget, ehh?

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

But Whenever i use Dogs of War in my Skaven army, ((Mercenary. Wizards, Generals, Birdmen)) they are ALL theamed after the CD’s.

This puzzles me. Plenty of Deamon armies to be found. The majority aiming for a dual use (like mine). Or maybe it is just the people around here and those I've seen on-line?

Me too, over half of the armies at my local GW are daemon armies. Daemons are the main army of GW, along with all things chaos and badass. For fantasy anyway.

Willmark:

Rebellion! Control of the DoW site has been achieved! A new and better site is underway.

BilboBaggins:

Cool, are you going to try and gain control of more sites so we can get the members to fight the tyranny of GW?

Willmark:

Heh, certainly wasn’t my intention but Baumann, Slick and I wanted to push the site forward, certain individuals were holding that back. It became readily apparent that pushing that site forward wouldn’t be in the benefit of all and certainly not for the people who were/are actually going to do the work. So much like with other sites I can think of that have been supplanted but better ones… either a site evolves and adapts or it stagnates. We felt that its the right thing to do, hopefully the community there will follow and grow.

Baumann has the URL we need: www.dogsofwaronline.com and I am purchasing the server space which he and I will share for costs.

Also do not fear everyone, my commitment is not wavering here, in fact its a case of it will help me in the long run as I’m using the same BB software our forum runs on. I’m not a a DoW player, they know that, I simply want to help them push forward. I will help with the background, get it up and running, and learn a bit about website design in the process.

Which brings me to a good point, any web designers with time to spare/volunteer?

furrie:

I’m a student multi media development, so no designer, but I can help with the code :stuck_out_tongue:
