[Archive] Finds on eBay and Strategies for defeating Extortionist Pricing

wallacer:

Just post the link here and if multiple members on this site end up bidding on it then that’s fine.

Ultimately it will be the market deciding what it is worth rather than an artifical regulatory scheme, and that is at it should be.

Pyro Stick:

Would anyone here be interested in bidding on this that the essex girl is bidding on that arent chaos dwarfs? Like im wanting archaon on foot and she gets loads of them so would anyone want those kind of links to limited models etc. Heres a link to 20 warriors ending in 4 hours:

Guys, I’m a little disturbed by the fact that many items on the following link:

http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZequilibrium_excess

are being bid on by someone with their ID kept private. Any chance Essex has caught on to what we’re doing?

catbarf:

Also, look here:

Was the Death Rocket made in plastic? Or is this a fake?

I thought that too, but don't think so (at least not yet).

However if she sets her ID to private anytime a bidder shows up with a private listing, 1 nano-second after a chaos dwarf auction goes up... it will be a pretty safe bet that it is her. Often she is the only one on many items (at least initially), hence it will still be easy to spot her.

Looks like it is primed white to me, could be wrong. Or someone made a resin cast and duplicated it...

Thommy H:

I’m watching that Astragoth…I may try to get it.

Willmark:

I’ve got my eye on REALLY BIG lot of CDs…

Pyro Stick:

What does SWSNBN stand for? Im guessing its something to do with the essex girl. Dont you think the more we outbid here the more she will bid on other things.

torn:

i think you are all starting to get pretty paranoid about that essexgirl. for all you know the private bidder could be one of us, or more likely someone with bad reputation who wants to keep it hidden. why would someone with such a high rating hide their bids?

the actual chance of an ebay seller deciding one day to search through the internet for chaos dwarfs, coming to this forum, reading through it, and deciding to foil our plans are rather slim. yes our information is public, but unless this seller is an avid chaos dwarf fan why would they visit this website and read through the forum in this much detail.

also that death rocket just looks like the white metal when they first started using that alloy.

What does SWSNBN stand for?

Pyro Stick
"She Who Shall Not Be Named" reference to Call of Cthulhu.

i noticed that not 5 mins ago and was going to reply to one of the posts on here about it so now i have, very suspicious, hmmmm

Pyro Stick:

I knew it would be something like that.

cornixt:

It seems that a lot of people simply don’t know how ebay works. You enter a maximum bid amount and ebay will automatically increase your bid up to the maximum level. You don’t have to keep bidding low amounts like in a normal auction, the system does it all for you. Last minute bids have no effect - if you weren’t prepared to bid the extra 5 pounds five minutes ago, why are you so keen to do it now?

If you want to beat a particular ebay business then it helps to know how high you should bid. Any business needs to get a certain amount of return in order to be worth while, usually around 10% return on investment. A business which is more unstable (like an ebay miniature one) will need a greater amount (more than 20%) because so much money is tied up in the products. This means that they aren’t going to pay more than 50 for something they can only sell for 55 because the profit margin is too small.

The bottom line: If you REALLY want something but don’t want to buy it off a particular business, just stick in a max bid which is above their profit margin. It is unlikely to even reach that price. The only problem is if two people both use this idea.

If you just want it, work out the max you’d pay for it, regardless of other bids. If you get outbid, then forget it, don’t up your amount!

Remember to add postage onto the amount.

Finally, never pay more than retail prices. You’d be surprised how many people get sucked into outbidding someone else and forget that they can get it cheaper direct from GW.

Hammerhand:

Why not have a list that shows our ebay names. We could have a thread opened just for such a purpose. Simply enough, if someone winning an auction is not on the list, then they are not one of us, and you should feel free to outbid them. Or outbid them if you really wnt to, but at least we will know it’s going to one of us!

This would have to be done in such a way as to not let people know who’s ebay handle was who’s to stop any potential arguements. If we PM our ebay IDs to a MOD or to ADMIN and get them to add us to the list, then only they would have the info and if thy abuse it, let them burn in the fires of Hashut’s fury!

Doombeard:

im bidding on the 10 bull centaurs and the hobgob small army(x4 blisters) and the hobgob command group so unless any1 wants a battle id avoid these

Canix:

Hi got the 20 plastic cd .Just thought i would mention that its the seller that decides to make a items bids private ,anda person can also choose to have a private id(but in this case its there personal details which are private not there bidding id).Eg biklinictoo

iamahobgoblin go for those hobbos i will drop out its the axeman i need now anyway.

equilibrium excess always sells cd for reasonable prices but sometimes SWSNBN buys these as she can still make a large mark-up
