Also, in the event I am forced to enter it in GH I won’t put up pics of my BC sculpt yet, but presuming I don’t he’s actually 58mm tall (monstrous cavalry, no hat). As I may have said before, this model one way or another I plan to get for sale, but at 58mm is he too tall even for monstrous infantry?
The reason I ask is because if the general consensus is yes I will have to start over, but better to do it now to save wasting putty.
Couldn’t quite figure out who is 58mm… but that is a little taller than the current plastic GW minotaurs, so… not unreasonable for a powerful monstrous infantry.
Not so much an update in the sculpting (as he’s so close to being ‘finished’ I might as well wait), but I have been fortunate in that Troll Forged do want to sell it, but only on the condition that I sculpt some alternate ‘mutant’ parts to get round any IP issues.
Which is fair enough, I pretty much expected that.
So whilst this will delay the release by a few weeks, I thought I’d ask you guys for feedback on what the alternate mutant parts should be?
Looking here at the head, arms and tail. So the body will stay unchanged.
My first thoughts was a mutant ogre type head, clearly humanoid?
Or possibly a daemon with some big horns?
Maybe some giant claws for the arms? The pose on the lower arms will have to be the same regardless of what I do because of the balance issue.
Edit. Also
I sculpted this model last summer, with the initial plan that it could be a new version of Arbaal the Undefeated.
However, for a few reasons I stopped working on him. I should make it clear here that I have no intention of finishing this any time soon, I’ll start and finish other models first, but it would be nice to have some ideas for when I have the motivation to work on him.
I included a space marine for a scale shot, but as it happens I picked a bad one as he’s running which distorts the height a bit! :-/
Anyhow… I have no idea what to do with this now. He’s too big for a human to ride (I tried making a rider and it’s not going to work). The face of the head is quite good imo, but I’m not a fan of the fin/ flappy parts. I did consider making him some sort of beast dragon thing without wings?
For the rider (if there is one), it would have to be an ogre or some other big creature like a daemon prince.
Or maybe cover it in fur and make it a giant rat!? :D Joking aside, I have been thinking of making a cyborg giant rat for a while. This would be a fair bit smaller than I was planning, but it would make it faster to finish I guess. The pose would actually be fairly good already for that.
I would look to the Spawn sprue for “inspiration”, mouth tail, tentacle tail, all classics.
Two-headed “ogre” head? A Bull head for a minotaur-ish conversion. Ie “Beastman Ghorgon” (though technically a bit too small, but I’ve seen people do four-armed minotaurs for that)
“Regular hands” with weapons for the more humanoid versions? Eg. make the left hand leaning on the ground a fist pressed against a rock or something like a tentacle clinging to a rock/tree part (to get to the same height as now with the claws)
This could also works as a Vargulf model, so something vampiric/demonic? Werewolf head?
I like the idea of a minotaur type head and regular (but a bit furry) arms. Arms leaning on rocks etc would be a suitable solution, if I made it big enough I doubt I’d need both arms on the base.
It’s probably that or a daemon with large horns and some claws.
Seeing as the body is still covered in fur it would be nice to do something more beast like than ogre mutant imo.
A beast/ daemon would have more reason to have a tail as well… possibly…
Some updated pics. I was going to take them when he was finished, but cutting the arms off and rebuilding will take longer than expected. Plus I have all these other parts to build.
There is still work needed in many places. Forgot the tail for the pics.
I always said it can't be that hard to sculpt a minotaur head that looked better than the GW ones... Did I pull it off?
Grimstonefire
At this point, no.
I'm not sure what's wrong with it though. Reminds me the Scibor heads, which I didn't quite fancy either.
The coolest Mino heads (and ironically they aren't *really* mino heads) still I think are these:

Do you think a bit of armour ontop would improve it?
I plan to make the brow heavier, to make him look a bit more fierce.
Grimstonefire
Hard to say. I'm one of those annoying "2 days too late with the perfect answer people". But I think maybe
This Hasselfree guy has a pretty decent mino head as well.

Trying hard to think of what it is that doesn't quite click, maybe it's the length vs bulk of the head. As it's still a wip of course that might be while it doesn't quite come together.
A Dwarf and an Orc torso. I’ve been looking at whether it would be possible to convert and cast a plastic savage orc so I could get something like what I imagine an orc to look like, but in the end I decided it would be quicker and cheaper just to sculpt it.
I’m not sure whether to go with a fabric or fur cloak for him, also whether to do a rounded or square hammer head?
