Just wondered what came first - The Chaos Dwarf “Army List” of 1995 or the Hellcanon?
Just a thought that if we’re going to attempt to get GW to make a Chaos Dwarf Army Book that we see if we can’t get the Hell Canon put in it as a “useable” CD item, much like how certain Warhammer & Warhammer 40K Chaos pieces are interchageable between the 2 games.

The Hellcannon was released with Storm of Chaos which was about 2004, wasn’t it? It was very much a resurrection of an old army in a new form.

Which came first…the Hell Chicken or the Hell Egg.

The Hellcannon was introduced for the Archaon’s Horde variant of the Hordes of Chaos army (that’s Warriors and Daemons) for the Storm of Chaos campaign. It was the first appearance of the Chaos Dwarfs for about ten years and pretty much kick-started the whole Chaos Dwarf online community, like this site.
It was a new unit for an existing army, that used concepts from another army that was more or less defunct.

I’d say the online CD community started in about 2000 on the egroups email messaging service. They were maybe 30 members in the first year. I know a couple of the early members are in this community. The Hellcannon certainly ballooned our numbers though.

The hellcannon and CD in SoC was got me interested in CD in the first place. 2004 you say? Has it really been that long!
It only seems like yesterday to me… Waiting another couple of years for a CD book will fly by in no time.

Yeah, but Grim…your “Fluff” army book is pretty kickin’ as it is. Have you thought of submitting it to GW?

Once I’ve done the other half and a few more concept models I will.

I’m putting money on seeing grims book released in shops with a different persons name on it…and some cheese thrown in to make it sell.

Games Workshop does not, as a rule, accept submissions from non-employees for precisely that reason: if they can’t control the copyrights, they’re not interested. What would happen if Grim’s fluff was successor and led to future editions of his Chaos Dwarfs? Would they be allowed to use the background he’d written in future publications? It’s a real legal quagmire, and it’s the whole reason they don’t use stuff like Malal any more.
The best case scenario is that Grim’s stuff impresses them so much they invite him to join Games Workshop…

I wonder if Grim would let me use it in my hobby store as a “give-away” for those people interested in playing Chaos Dwarfs…like me! I might get 1 or 2 people a copy and
I can make it “Store Legal”, playable here at Monster Hobbies, if not anywhere else. Just include the Hellcannon for me please!

GW get around that by saying that if you send stuff to them then you are giving them the copyright. Not sure how legally enforcable that it, but I’m pretty sure you would have to sign your rights away before it is published anyway.

Money is one thing, influencing ideas would be much more important to me. I don’t expect many people would even read my stuff if I’m honest, but I’m sending it to them because I feel I must. There could potentially be some issues later on if I planned to sell any models based on the artwork I’ve done.
I’m happy people think the fluff I’ve done is good. The next version of my list I’ll put up is different in many ways to the one on my sig, but the fluff is the same.
I don’t think GW would actually publish my stuff in any shape or form, so I will load it on my new forum before sending it to GW. That way I can correct any small mistakes.

Would you consider printing it as your own thing, much like some of these other companies do for their own game pieces and what-not?
If so, I’d like to carry the book and the figures for my store, Monster Hobbies.
