What did you think? I need to see it again a few times but it might be my favourite out of the 6, I loved it. Watched it at 48fps in 3d and really enjoyed it.

Admiral:
Fantastic, and that goes for all three movies in the Hobbit cinematic trilogy. The Hobbit might be as good as, or maybe even better than Lord of the Rings, so this is a worthy prequel if I ever saw one.
I have heaped loads and loads of praise upon many designs (though not as large a share as I did for Lotr) in the movie, not least the design of Dwarven architecture, equipment and clothing. The Elves worked, though the Last Alliance Noldor Elves still hold the gold place for Elven style in Lotr/Hobbit movies, to my mind. The Orcs were on the large side but worked. The trolls were hilarious.
I’ve also heaped loads and loads of praise on the script writers. They’re obviously a skilled bunch of people, who looked meticulously at the good Hobbit book, and managed to expand it, deepen it and enrich it without ever really deviating from its spirit. Yes, I can even forgive the Fili-Tauriel romance. The Battle of Five Armies movie also ties in well with the later Lotr trilogy on so many points. Fat bonus points for humour and grit where grit is due, and likewise big bonus points for making Middle-Earth appear much more like a living world of trading, producing, interconnected places than it ever did in any of Tolkien’s writings. It was also nice to see armies who gave off the impression of working like a collection of cooperating, organized units rather than just a horde of individuals.
I was surprised to see a certain Warhammer/Warcraft take on not least Dain and Thranduil’s mount, and immediately though “WoW raid” when I saw the rams, but these things didn’t even bother me. So good was the movie. It’s near-perfect.
In a word: Wonderful. :cheers
Now if this script-writing team, Jackson and Weta Workshop (in spite of Christopher Tolkien…) could make Fall of Númenor/Last Alliance and not least First Age movies… That would be fantasy paradise on the screen, just like the Hobbit movies are.
Yodrin:
I think its really good!!! Its clearly the best of the 3 Hobbit movies. I think LOTR Fellowship is the best of the 6, but its second or third of the six…
Doombeard:
The WoW Movie is being made at the moment so looking forward to seeing that. I loved Dain & Thranduil’s mounts too! Interesting that the GW release only has Thranduil riding a horse. And Smaug destroying Laketown was real eyecandy. Thorin Vs Azog battle was nice. Makes me want to watch all 3 b2b now!
Dînadan:
I’ll be waiting for it to come out for free on Netflix; found the first two dire as adaptations so don’t feel like wasting money on going to see it as I doubt I’ll enjoy it (only saw the second on Netflix a couple of months back and will only watch the third for the sake of completeness). For me the Hobbit films are to the LotR films what the Prequel Trilogy is to the Original Trilogy in Star Wars. That’s not to say the LotR films were perfect, just that they’re superior adaptations (although the books are still far better ) for me and its probably the fact that they’re adaptations of The Hobbit (and bits from the appendices and Unfinished Tales) which is a book I enjoy that sours my enjoyment of them - if they’d been a generic fantasy trilogy I’d probably be able to enjoy them more.

Sry but can’t forgive the 2nd one with dwarfs doing a looney toon sketch on smaug. Damn what a bad final act that movie had.

I actually preferred the other 2 hobbit movies much more. I went to see this one in 3d on saturday and there are a few quibbles for me.
1 - The pace was much slower than the other two, with a lot of pointless drawn out tacked on emotional moments.
2 - tauriel and the dwarf, whats with that? she has only known him 2 days. And in those 2 days spent about 30 minutes with him. get over it, would she really get herself banished and spurn legolas for him?
3 - film quality, im not sure why but it seemed to me to be something made on a BBC budget.
4 - Fight scenes. They were ok, but everything seemed a bit rushed. Even that baby looking troll thing, was used twice. How lay is that? The marching armies were very clearly cut and pastes. There was no cool elf shooting rediculous arrow shots.
5 - thorin going mad. blerk.
good parts
1 - fighting the ringwraiths. even thoughit came to nothing that was a cool scene.
2 - bard and smaug, probably the best part of the whole film.
overall, a bit dissapointing, not a bad film but i dont think it was anywhere near as good as it could have been.
Doombeard:
Yeah I saw that giant/troll thing re-used a second time which was weird other than that I was pretty happy. Especially how Azog Vs Thorin played out. Azog looked amazing you could see every pore and wrinkle of skin. The CG has come a long way since LOTR days, no way could they have done a full cg character close up like that 10 yrs ago
Grimstonefire:
It’s probably 10 years since I read the Hobbit and I’m sure some parts of this film aren’t in it (the bit with the white council for instance)?
Anyway, that was unexpected and very cool.
I really, really enjoyed seeing the dwarf army at war, major thumbs up for that.
I’d probably say this is equal top with me to Two Towers.
It did seem a little disjointed at times with the various battles going on, but overall very good. I think they’d have explained Thorin’s madness as gold fever better than dragon gold… or whatever it was.
Some quirky bits like the war pig and the goats, and the giant battering ram all weird and wonderful.
tjub:
Without doubt the worst of them all, felt a bit let down when we left the theater. I would say it actually sucked.
Abecedar:
Lots of different opinions so far. It comes out next week here but I’ll have to wait until the week after due to work.
cornixt:
I’ve not heard any good reviews of it, the best anyone manages is “it was okay, considering how little plot there was”
Admiral:
Haha, I guess my taste is bad indeed, then.

I have had mixed I know some people who loved it. But it just wasnt my thing, despite middle earth being my thing. I think in hindsight there was a lot of very good bits, but it just didnt gel together into a very god film.
on the plus side new star wars in a year - dooo dooo doo doo dooooooooooooo da da da da daaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Doombeard:
I like anything involving huge armies fighting , large budget, fantasy based movies, I mean whats not to love! Huge Orcs fighting Dwarf and Elf armies over a mountain full of gold, huge dragons laying waste to entire towns. I just feel lucky it got made at all and I got to see it.
I do wish Del Toro had stayed on board though, I think it would have turned out very differently, his creature design and taste for storytelling is beautiful. The whole thing with the barrel race, and the washing up sequence in the first two felt like he had run out of ideas and was trying too hard. The third movie he just let things play out and didn’t try to force it too much which I liked.
