[Archive] Hood`s non-fantasy stuff (Krios Venator 10-april)

Abecedar:

Ok. Coal Shovel = Poopa Scoopa

And it would be a rain hat without sunshine

TheHoodedMan:

That`s right, it is a rain hat as well :).

The first Malifaux Crew is playable painted now: Mei Feng and her followers ready for kicking asses :cheers

and Mei Feng solo:

Admiral:

That warband is shaping up really fine! Good work Hood.

Fuggit Khan:

They look great :cheers

The colors compliment each model really well, they look individually distinctive, but coherent as a group as well. And very nice bases, simple and effective, not too flashy or distracting…well done Mr Hood :hat off

TheHoodedMan:

Malifaux is played on a 3x3 feet surface. There are some examples for a modular game board on the net and I tried to make something like that myself. A friend of mine who lives nearby gave me some valuable input and so I built 10 tiles.

The bridge is from my fantasy terrain, but it fits with the rest fairly ok. Altogether I`m satisfied with the board. Maybe I could do some transparent Acryl on the “river”, but I will think of that a few days.

19th century building kits from Micro Arts (originally for Wolsung) are already in my hobby room but not built yet.

Admiral:

Clever board layout, and gorgeous groundwork! Looking forward to the ruins and buildings.

Abecedar:

Nice boards you’ve made.

I assume thats blue insulation board?

I have some but I haven’t used it yet and would love to decide on a project

Loidrial:

Simple yet functional. Good job Hood

TheHoodedMan:

Thank you,

the boards are made from Aspen tree wood (4mm) as a base. They cut it exactly 1x1 foot in the hardware store. Then there are two layers impact sound insulation on top, cut with a hobby knife. At the channel I didnt add the insulation. The flagstones are from cereal packages and glued. Then I mixed Acryl filler from the hardware store, sand and brown and black (only very little) tinting pant and applied this to the surface without the channel. This is time consuming because of the flagstones. But adding them later is a little bit risky because they could soften and get waved. Plasticard flagstones could be simply pressed to the still wet acrylic surface. I added some wood, stones and cog wheels to give some detail. Takes about 48 h hours to dry, even a little more. <br>After that I painted the rims and the channel in basic black and green. The tinting color was a little structured for the channel. After that some grey on the flagstones, drybrushing everything but the channel in a light color. "Nurgles rot" on the channel to give it a wet look (here I think about applying transparent Acryl later). Finishing was painting the wood and cog wheels.

Altogether it took me about 12-15 hours work but you can`t do it in one go :-). Cost for Material was about 35-45 EUR.

TheHoodedMan:

I got some 30k models for my Mechanicum army the last months. Last weekend I visited a Horus Heresy Meeting in Nuremberg as a spectator only and it was awesome. There were some really great armies there, 16 participants from all over the nation.

Enough motivation for me to do a sample model, a Thallax with lightning gun.

The copper part of the gun will be reworked, probably edged with steel/silver or black with grey edges. What do you think will work better?

At the base I used some yellow pigment from Warcolours (located in Cyprus), who sponsored the last Golden Hat. With my voucher I bought some products there and the first impression is really good. All paint bottles are high quality with a shaking ball in there. The pigments worked like I wanted. I also bought some of the gem colors and will give feedback as soon as I tried them. Prices are quite reasonable and there is a shipping flat.

Bloodbeard:

That’s a nice miniature. I like the look of it. And thanks for the heads up on warcolour. I haven’t tried them out, so it’s always nice to get some info on new colours and effects.

Fuggit Khan:

What do you think will work better?

TheHoodedMan
I've looked at the pic, studied it, tried to imagine it in different color shades, etc.
And I've come to the conclusion that I would not change anything on it.
You have quite the charmed ability to balance out color ranges very nicely...always such nice accents and depth of tone.
And I love the white 'geared cog' design on the shoulder plate edge (my eye is always drawn to sharp edged angular designs) <3

Scar:

Sweet!

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

TheHoodedMan:

The first Thallax Cohort is complete.

With its jet packs the Thallax can move in good shooting positions for their long range photon thrusters while the lower range lightning gun equipped squad members shield them from enemy fire.

Under their faceless visors are very effective sensors which find opponents even behind metal walls.

TheHoodedMan:

In November starts the winter pledge, I have to paint 2000 points for an army, it will be Mechanicum this time.

My preparations are finished so I had time to paint a Malifaux mercenary calld “Hans”, a Sniper, in the meantime.

Abecedar:

That is one stereotyped cool looking dude.

Bloodbeard:

He’s a nice looking miniature! Would well into pure sc-fi as well. How long is the pledge time? 200 points is a lot.

TheHoodedMan:

Thats right. He would fit well in a cyberpunk setting as well.:hat off

The pledge goes from November until end of April.

Every 1 1/2 months 500 points have to be completed.

(Mechanicum models cost lots of points, should be manageable. Two years ago I started my cd army this way).

Scar:

Sweet models!

I love malifaux models the new plastics have so nice detail.

TheHoodedMan:

Sometimes very small parts and I desperately try to build the Insidious Madnesses at the moment (the so called “building instructions” don`t really deserve that name)…

But plastic glue works with the models and they fit very well together. Top notch plastic kits and there are nearly no bad designs.

@Scar: I like to paint them, too, and my impression is that the paint job on them is very fluent and relatively quick so it is very rewarding.
