Ok, I’ll try, but at the time someone posted as I was making a post. One of those “Technicalitites”!
Well, I’ve had a good night’s sleep and am in a better mood to work on this guy, all suggestions considered.
I also looked over my parts and found out I have 9 books when I thought I had only 6. I also found that there is a Lizardman’s spell stone in there too. Looks like I’m going to have to change the Fluff for Farlund.
Also was thinking of getting rid of the staff and possibly giving him 3 extra spells from some of these “Other Books” that he has, including the Lizardman Spell Stone. Make the 3 extra spells as “One Use Only” items. They’d be an “Official” Lizardman spell and two from some other army.
I think I might make Farlund more of a “Traveling Sorcerer” instead of an “Old Foggey Sorcerer”. Then he’s not trying to take over Astragoth’s place, and yet still be just as interesting in his own right. Also, he might not have “The Stone Curse” yet.
I’m also thinking that he could have a traveling library that is pulled by the 2 Black Orcs instead of the Orcs just chained in place. Then he can move around on the battlefield at the distance of the Black Orcs movement(Possibly at -1 because books are heavy!). That way he has his books that he’s taken from the library as well as 3 from the other armies that he’s taken from previous battles he’s been in.
Blacktounge can still work the same way.
I don’t recall you having previously said that the Orb provides +1S and wounds a friendly model on a roll of 1 to hit.
I was going to use this, but found it easier to make simular to the Ogre Hunter’s beasts. It is essentually a simular dynamic anyway, just easier than using the CD version.
Farlund Chaoswalker, Chaos Dwarf Sorcerer Lord - Traveling Wizard of Hashut and Holder of The Ancient Texts (revision #2)
Farlund Chaoswalker is the one of the most knowlegeable and nomadic of all the Chaos Dwarf Sorcerer Lords. He is as equilly feared as he is revered throughout the Dark Lands and the lands beyond. In a pursuit to further his magical skills, Farlund has left his home in The Dark Lands to travel the Old World in a large cart which he now calls home. Through his various encounters in forgein lands, he has amased a wealth of magical books, scrolls and documents from his own Magical Lores as well as obtained 3 books of forgein Lores. In fact, he has whopping 27 books avalible to him!
It is only fitting that Farlund Chaoswalker is the holder of all these magical spells and texts. Afterall, he has traveled to the ends of the earth to get them. Through decades of study in each spell book, Farlund has mastered many skills in the black arts, most of which are not known to the lesser Sorcerers. Sadly, he is not a good translator and the 3 additional spells he has obtained from forgein lands in his Library are only good for one use in battle as he stumbles through the incantations, desperatly trying to remeber the languages as he translates them into Dwarfeese to unleash upon his current enemies.
Farlund’s Library Cart has a platform on the top that has a pedistol with 9 book stands forming a semi-circle. Depending on the lore Farlund is using, he places his books in the stands and begins his “Sermon of Death”. From this Platform, Farlund preaches out his magical enchantments and incantations, casting down all sorts of death and destruction on his enemies.
Farlund’s heavy library cart is carried into battle by his two Black Orc Book Guards. Although the library is too large to use in battle all at once, Farlund takes out 6 of his best spells to thwart his enemies. Depending on the curcumstances of the battle, he can choose 6 spells from one of the Fire, Metal, Shadow or Death Lores of magic from the Warhammer Rule Book. The three additional forgein spells and their descriptions are listed below.
In addition to his books, he also brings his newest apprentice, Barbaak Blacktounge to assist him in his magic spells as well as 2 Black Orc Guards to protect the ancient knowledge from falling into the wrong hands.
Farlund Chaoswalker can be taken as a Lord Choice in a Chaos Dwarf Army, but will also take up one of your Hero choices as well. He must be fielded exactly as presented and no extra equipment can be bought for him. The cost of his spells, Circle of Books, Barbaak Blacktounge and the 2 Black Orc Guards are included in his total cost.
Points: 500 (?)
Magical Items
3 Forgein Spells - One Use Only
Spell #1 - The Oxen Stands - Cast on 5+
The spell can be cast on any friendly fleeing model on the tabletop. If sucessful, the unit rallies immeadeatly, reguardless of how many
models are left in it.
Spell #2 - Scroll of Nightmares
The Scroll of Nightmares can be used at the start of any turn. Until the end of that turn, the model and any unit it has joined cause
fear.
Spell #3 - Tablet of Darkness
The Tablet of Darkness may be used with the exact same effect as a Dispell scroll. In addition, all Remains in Play spells are
automatically removed from play. Finally, roll a D6. The magic Phase ends on a roll of 4+.
Circle of Books
Farlund Chaoswalker always brings 6 of his best spells with him into combat. These spells are written in 6 very powerful books. The books have a magical aura of protection surrounding them that allows the unit a +5 ward save against enemy attacks.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentace. - Barbaak Blacktounge is a young Mage learning his craft from the master of all Chaos Dwarf sorcerers. Although he hasn’t been casting spells as much as Farlund and is nowhere near as powerfull, he has a natural aptitude for Divination as proven by the magical crystal ball he carries with him. This ball is known as The Orb of Darkness.
Barbaak Blacktounge is treated as a Unit Champion for combat resolution.
If the unit is attacked from range by a missle attack, The Orb of Darkness which he carries with him allows him to transmute any missle attack damage umongst the unit. Missle fire is randomized against the unit by rolling a D6 : 1-2 hits Barbaak Blacktounge himself, 3-5 hits one of the Black Orcs and a 6 hits his master, Farlund Chaoswalker.
While Barbaak Blacktounge is still alive, Farlund Chaoswalker may re-roll any failed attempt to cast a spell.
Farlund’s Special Black Orc Book Guards
Farlund has 2 very strong Black Orc Book Guards who are bound through a hypnotic Black Magic spell to protect the books from all the enemies of the Chaos Dwarfs. From their exposure to the power of the books, the 2 guards have grown very tough skin. This skin gives them 2 wounds as opposed to the usual 1 wound that a regular Black Orc would have.
However, to keep these two guards from fleeing, they are chained to the sorcerer’s cart by two Titanium chains that extend 2 inches. Because of this, the Sorcerer’s two guards must always remain close to the cart. They are Unbreakable, Stubborn, may not declair charges, and can never pursue beaten foes. In addition to this, the Black Orc Guards carry 1 shield and 1 axe each. They also wear Heavy Armour.

Barbaak Blacktounge 3 4 3 3 4 1 2 1 9

The Library Cart and crew have a unit strength of 5. No other characters can join the Library Cart.
*Should the battle turn and the enemies move out of Farlund’s range, the two Black Orcs can move the cart at Farlund’s command a combined 4".
(There’s a bit more to be thought out, but this is just the overview for now.)
Points Calculation
Farlund Chaoswalker (Sorcerer Lord Level 4) - 190+35 = 225
Barbaak Blacktounge (sorcerer level 1) - 65 = 65
Black Orc Book Guards (2 Black Orcs at 13P+1 Shield) = 28
Orb of Darkness (Modified Gauntlets of Bazhrakk) = 20
6 spells and 3 one use only spells? That effectively means, half the battle, he can cast 7 spells a turn, with re-rolls.
I would suggest that, instead of trying to use all of your parts on one model (and have them all count), you try making it feasible, then use any leftover pieces on other models or as “flavouring” to the model. For example, maybe he can choose the lore and use all 6 spells (and POSSIBLY have ONE of the one-use only spells) or you can have him choose 4 his 4 spells and get those extra three or something.
Not sure what the 2" for the chain is about. Is it in fluff terms that it’s 2" or is it in gaming terms? Also, can the BOs only pull the library around when the enemy is out of range of all his spells?
Not sure about the pricing yet (we’ll leave that until last) and I think you might be able to get away with it being just a Lord or a Lord and rare/special or something. Not sure yet. The rest is looking quite good and I love the new fluff, far more fitting.
I never thought that designing the rules for a mini could be so tough!

Looking over these 9 metal “book” pieces, (GW 99060299053)there are only 4 books that are “Open” and 5 that are closed. One of the open books is the Lizardman tablet, complete with 2 lizards on it.(He could have a familiar, if I wanted to write one up…which I don’t! :D) Maybe I could just put the closed books in the bottom part of the cart and have them visible through the windows so that the cart looks “Full”, like there are 20+ books down there. Make a little “Study Room”, as it were; suggested, but not useable, except to add to the “Aura” effect.
I do want to keep the 3 special spells, so maybe cutting the rest back to 4 like you suggest would regulate him from becoming Uber-powerful on 1 turn.
The 2" chain is there to make it so that the BO’s can’t run off from the cart, join another unit of BO’s, or whatever. Maybe it isn’t nessiccary game wise as they are Unbreakable and Stubborn, etc. I just wanted them to be like the AoD guards who never leave their post.
I wanted the Library Wagon to have simular movement dynamics of a cannon in that it takes a full turn to move it and you can’t do anything else that turn but move the cart. After all, it IS a moveable battle platform and should probably have a “Locked Down” mechanism to it when the Wizard is balsting spells off it. However, I couldn’t find that rule to use at the time of hammeing in the text on the page.
I was thinking of removing the re-roll ability of Blacktounge. What do you think?
As for pricing, I agree that we SHOULD leave it for last as I’m not 100% sure how you calculate pricing to begin with on items that essentually have no price.
