[Archive] If you need to Rock Out!

Willmark:

A little Muse for the evening…

two_heads_talking:

Wait, are The Killers rock or emo? I thought they were emo… which would put them more in line with evolved punk… (And I can dig me some punk… specially Black Flag…)

Pyro Stick:

…Where did all the posts go?

And the killers are indie/rock. And emo isnt a genre.

two_heads_talking:

cornixt:

Emo isn’t Emo. So annoying when genre names get co-opted by new genres.

Willmark:

Hmmm I didn’t edit anything…

Captain Crayon:

Emo A Genre? :stuck_out_tongue: pfft

There is only one Genre.

And that Genre is Metallica

Your guess is as good as mine as I wasn't in the Admin tools today...

Servius:

Genre or not… this can’t be emo… the people in the crowd are far too happy…

Sojourn:

I know the site policy on double posting WITHIN threads… what happens when an admin double thread posts!? hrmmmmm?

not that I’m pointing any fingers or making an accusations… but ahem I saw another post that was incredibly similar…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Slavelord:

Yea, whats the deal with that? I don’t really care, but humm…

Anyway, this is emo-

Which evolved out of this-

which is grunge, which evolved out of-

Sooooo, emo isn’t a seperate genre, it is simply more technically skillful punk. It just isn’t cool (for lack of a better word) to be a punk.

Sojourn:

man, I don’t like Nirvana… there’s one song I like, and I can never remember what it’s called. but yah, not a fan.

Servius:

Slavelord is correct… see as you can clearly see in the top video the crowds are pretty sedate for the hard kind of music… only in the end do you see them seem to rush the stage (if you can call it that) obviously someone dropped a box of razor blades in front and they are all trying to get at them.

slev:

OK, several points:

Emo. There once was a genere called Emo, which evolved out of grunge and pop-punk. It was cool in of itself, and kept itself to itself. Then various Emo bands changed what they did, and became popular, and started a new genere, but kept the old name. There are hence two types of Emo. It’s the latter type we hate.

Pop punk, before anyone becomes upset, covers bands like The Clash, Therapy? and The Wildhearts. I would call “punk” bands like The Exploited, Conflict, Anti-Nowhere League, et al.

Emo-Hate, is justified. The alternative scenes are traditional covered by Metal, Goth & Punk, we tend to gather in the same places and frequent the same clubs. Then a few years ago, the Emos started turning up in droves, stifling the clubs, demanding their music be played, etc. My message to them: Get your own places and clubs.

Metallica: The worst of the “big four”, the big four themselves being over-rated compared to their contempararies. The greatest thrash album of all time was War and Pain by Voivod.

Nirvana: I never liked Nirvana. I hated the music, I hated the fact that magazines, radio shows and shelf space previously dedicated to Metal where invaded by that Grunge crap. I hate dthe fact that the trendies listened to Nirvana, and would beat uo the metallers on the school yard. Dave Grohl earned his forgiveness via Probot though.

The Killers are pop-rock, much like most of the so called “indie rock” that’s popular these days. It has nothing to do with Indie though, whic would cover bands like CtUSM, Inspiral Carpers, early Sunscreen, Primal Scream, etc.

Of course, if I could find a video of it, I’d post “War to the Wimps” by Gorilla Monsoon, just to express the above through Jack Sabbath’s lyrics…

Slavelord:

I’m going to go against the grain, as I like nirvana. They played their own type of music, which others copied (ie. grunge).

@slev is this the ‘War to the Wimps’ you were talking about?

I don't know, I can't see it. I had to block certain sites that the staff where abusing, and it's too much like effort for me to remove the block just to check out one video. I'll look tonight.
