[Archive] Immortal look

Grimstonefire:

For those who think they should have great axes; should they have double headed axes, or a single blade?

Willmark:

Double bit all the way.

Xander:

I love double headed axes. But I don’t know. The way they seemed to be described in [[Grudge Bearer]] implies a one headed axe…

“and they carry large bladed axes, curved and deadly.” I dunno, I guess you could have a curved double headed axe. I guess it all depends on the execution.

Xander
Does it imply that?  I think it depends on how you interpret it.  Incidently it could have said

'and they carry a large bladed axe, curved and deadly'

This would be clearer, it would clearly be a great weapon.  As it is it could mean that they carry two axes, each with large curved blades.
I guess it all depends on the execution.
Good pun ;) Though execution axes tend to have straight edges.

Xander:

'and they carry a large bladed axe, curved and deadly’

This has a grammar confusion though. It implies that as a group they carry one axe together. :stuck_out_tongue:

A unit of immortals came into view of the enemy, carrying one giant bladed axe, curved and deadly. The enemy became fearful and ran before the mighty axe.

The chaos dwarfs are all about "doing it big"; big guns, big rockets, big hats and now big axes.

Grimstonefire:

One huge axe! Now that could be scary.

Ok, how about ‘and they carried axes with a large blade, curved and deadly’ - clearly a single headed axe.

Its not the best way to describe it, but a slight change in the way its written gives a clearer understanding.

Xander:

Haha, this feel like theology somehow, hahaha! Arguing the details of the written word and what their implications are. XD

AGPO:

How many immortals does it take to swing the ten ton axe of Hashut?

Willmark:

One… if a Boar Centaur is doing it!

Kera foehunter:

So have anyone made any immorals yet ?

Grimstonefire:

What do you think of these:

And this one I’ve just finished.  I’d like to hear your opinions on this one.

Greyscale (I think it looks better this way)

@Kera

Yes

n00bLord:

They’re nice but not what I envisioned for immortals. I think they would be rather large in the waist, covered in platemail. Each one draped in cloth over their armor, which could easily also be stretched out flesh of dwarves they have felled in combat. For some reason I feel that they might not have beards, as to be a mockery of dwarven kind.

Their armor in general should represent the bulls and horned animals of the wastes they live in, I think their helmets should adorn masks that are in roughly hammered or wrought in shape of bulls or other such beasts. I don’t think they should have their beards down to their feet, other wise they could trip over them in combat, or some one else could grab them and pull them by it.

Although their beards should be huge if they have any, but in neat curled rows with obsidian and and what not all wrapped in it. Or even possibly the Immortals should be the closest to BCs in physical form, being some what larger then their dwarven kin. Instead of a simple two handed axe, they should carry something like a broad headed halberd or bardiche.

my two centses.

Grimstonefire:

Having bull type horns is a good idea, I will have to include some of them.

Its interesting you mention the ‘wide at waist’ thing, as I’ve given this a lot of thought.

Either they are wide in the waist, which then gets thinner up to the shoulders (with the belly plate overlapping the chest), or they are the other way round (with chest plates overlapping the belly).  I went for the second one.

n00bLord:

I just see Immortals as the wealthiest infantry, being the best fed in the army! Besides the officers… I can’t wait to see your concepts realized as a model!

Ishkur Cinderhat:

Love those artworks, Grim. The first one looks best IMO. I think the hardest thing about the immortals is to include the granite parts in their armour. At least I always struggle with that in my concept ideas.

Grimstonefire:

Painting granite is hard as well IMO.

In a couple of weeks I will put together all the concept art I’ve done for the Immortals. There is a lot now, but I’ll present them in their raw forms.

@n00blord

You won’t have long to wait

Willmark:

Hmmm whatever could Grim be alluding to?

Kera foehunter:

well guys i found my immortals look.scale this down to dwarf size and add a beard.

Ishkur Cinderhat:

Waaayyyy to lightly armoured, this guy.
