[Archive] IT?TS HERE! The Indy GT Dwarfs of Chaos Army Book

silashand:

Just wanted to say very well done. I am very tempted to start a Zharr-Dawi army of my own, though I admit I am not keen on having to convert everything and/or pay overpriced eBay prices. I do think it needs a version 1.1 though to correct some of the editing errors. The biggest one I found was on page 16/17 where an entire paragraph of the backstory was duplicated. Other than those few typos the product is outstanding. Thanks to everyone who made it happen!

Cheers, Gary

Grimstonefire:

Welcome to CDO silashand. So, you’ve finally been tempted to the dark side!

With an unholy amount of luck we will hopefully not have that long to wait until some CD models come out, if the rumours are to be believed.

silashand:

Thanks Grim. Been a lurker for a couple years, actually ;).

Always liked the background for the Chaos Dwarfs, but was never enchanted by the models available (except for the hobgobbos which I thought were pretty decent). Love the style of the hellcannon and am hoping if new models do come out they look somewhat like the crew of that machine. I don’t mind the big hats, though some figs are better than others. I think I was mostly turned off by the overtly comical nature of a few of the figs which never seemed to fit the foul, evil Zharr-Dawi imagery.

Anyway, I went out and bought the old 5th edition CD book again just for background reading. Unfortunately I went through a period a while back where I sold most of my old army books/rules and figured I’d never want to read them again. D’oh!

Cheers, Gary

wallacer:

The CD Indy GT book is certainly a professional job.

It’ll be interesting to see how many people it motivates to start a CD army (and what GW’s response is, if any).

Taedae:

very well done guys.

looks really awesome, the artwork is incredible and the minis are the best. i see a couple of things that might be a little off, but i hope GW uses this.

The Brain:

The book is really good. It would be nice if the people running the GT’s could tell us how many people signed up to play CD.

Also, for the 1.1 version I see a rule correction. I did not see anywhere in the book that said that a model can wear Chaos Armour and cast magic, I only saw that it was a 4+ AS. Can anyone correct me if I am wrong.

Malorn:

Insane amount of work! Really good!!!

I do think the blunderbuss should hit unitstrengt and not models on 4+, else an ogre unit of 120 points can kick nearly any size unit of blunderbuss’ but you can’t have everything you want :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The 'no armour when casting magic' rule is not in the 7th ed rulebook, its just that casters generally don't have the option for armour. The ones that do are free to cast normally.

Interesting :) Maybe an update for 1.1!

Ammrik Gunrock:

I read GW fluff of the duel between the two somewhere.

Baggronor
Yeah, its a popular myth story where Magnus and Asavar duel and despite the fact Magnus isn't the greatest swordsmen his faith gives him strength to defeat him.  But, again, no reliable scholarly source in the Empire is written that proves Magnus fought Asavar (or even got near him in the Melee)  Its a popular story told to children as a life leasson about having faith in Sigmar and the church can't be bothered to correct it (nor would they want to I would imagine).

As for Annihilators hitting unit strength...well I think they need some kind of negative dont they?  Good against ranked, not so good against monsters.  Seems fair to me (and follows how they work now anyway).

I really wish this could get published in a White Dwarf.....Something like this, with all the hard work put into it, deserves it!

Spikes:

Why would GW publish something that doesn’t belong to them?

White Dwarf is a paid advertisement magazine, anyways.

Over at Wargaming Montreal Forums, a particular member dislikes the fact that the demonic warmachines cause fear and can do melee attacks. He says that small flyers (such as harpies) or fast cavalry cannot properly take care of warmachines anymore with this.

He also goes on talking about the rabble; and how hobgobs at 4 points are cheap enough.

Thommy H:

Best to think of them as monsters that shoot like war machines instead of actual war machines.

This brings a serious question: the spells that affect war machines or effects that prevent them from shooting (like the earthshaker)...Do they affect demonic engines, since they're monsters?

Erm, I was under the impression this is the entire point. Theres got to be a reason why Chaos Dwarfs bung Daemons in their war machines. If they don't fight/cause fear/terror, then they're just war machines that run about and misfire in much worse ways than mundane machines... what would be the point?

They're monsters, not war machines. At least, I assume. I didn't write anything in the book, although the credit I receive on the back page is actually for this idea, so you can blame me. They follow the precedent set by the Hellcannon, anyway. They're monsters and handlers that happen to have a special rule that means they can shoot like a war machine.

I don't have anything against that way of explaining the mechanics. I think it's a great and "fluffy" way of representing the demonic entities trapped within the machines.

CD's "science" is much, much cooler than any dwarven or gnomish contraption I've seen.

I will begin playing with this "new" list instead of the ravening hordes one, simply because it is more up to par with the current army books. I might even stand a chance against khaeleth/hotek heavy DE lists, since I'll have armor and slaves (along with my risky magic against the hotek bearing army).

Hrothgar Goldgreed:

I found the list very well written and very inspirational. I really like the artwork pieces too. I’d take it for an official book if I wouldn’t know better!

It’s good to see more members of Bugman’s here.

Ishkur Cinderhat:

I have taken the liberty of posting the download link on a large German forum and I have to say the reactions vary between enthusiastic and blown away.

Border Reiver:

And seeing your work in the colour section certainly doesn’t hurt - you do good work man.

Hrothgar Goldgreed
We're everywhere. You won't ever see us until it's too late... ;P

I don't really see this as anything new those units already have a hard time taking on regular dwarf warmachines, because they can have between 3-5 crew members, t4 and stubborn. Besides Tomb
king catpolts and the hell cannon cause fear, and its not that big of a deal.
