[Archive] July's White Dwarf mentions the Dark Lands!

Xander:

July’s White Dwarf features Mighty Empires, the expansion that used plastic hexagon tiles to help with campaigns. In this month’s edition they show off a set of tiles that make up the Dark Lands. "Lying between the Worlds Edge Mountains and the Mountains of Mourn, the Dark Lands are an inhospitible realm shrouded by a pall of sulphur and smoke. Only evil creatures dwell here, including the industrious but cruel Chaos Dwarfs."

Featured in the map are The Gates of Zharr, The Tower of Gorgoth, The Fortress of Vorag, The Sentinels, The Black Fortress, The Daemons Stump, and The Flayed Rock.

The tiles were painted mostly black and many with lava strewn over them. Also included are Tar Pits and Volcanoes and a Sludge River. I was pleasantly surprised, and I recommend you all take a gander at this month’s issue. :hat

Perturabo:

Sounds cool. I wonder how likely it is the UK WD has the same feature (I don’t have mine yet).

Hobgobbler:

I saw the issue - I think its intresting that they chose the dark lands, there are plenty of other places in warhammer.

Maybe a sign for things to come?

Hobgobbler
Yes and no. While I admit they are planting the seeds, they chose other places as well; they had more than one example. :)

It's cool, for sure, though.

dabiggrotsboss:

Who is “July”? Why did she get a copy of White Dwarf before I did? How did you convince her to let you read it?

...is that a joke? i am pretty sure that by July Xander means the White Dwarf for the month of july (unless i am greatly mistaken)
fervently hoping the same feature is in the Australian white dwarf :cheers

steveb:

Hi just a quick hi to say that yes the feature is in the new W.D in england.

Although they do have a number of other lands featured i think its a good sign as there are many other places they could have shown with actual races out. It also get people who dont know about the CD to ask who they are …

Hashut’s Blessing:

Well, glad to hear that I might also be able to see this kit in WD. May actually be worth buying it. My friend and I only get it because we collect now really! It’s quite ridiculous…

Nazhur:

wow, thats great. I have not yet got my dwarf but I hope ti comes soon. Good that we are yetagain making us self heard(seen or whatever).

Xander:

The Mighty Empires stuff is actually kinda neat. Something for the core gamer, at least.

torn:

There are rules floating about somewhere about online for mighty empires i think i can find a link.

shouldnt be too different from the released ones. One thing im not too sure about, when your playing a full campaign you cant really bluetack those plastic tiles to a niceboard.

Xander:

The tiles snap together tightly, and you can even hang them on a wall. So says the Mag.

The Flying Beaver:

Mighty Empires looks like a lot of fun, I’m definitely going to try that out.

Uzkul Werit:

It’s a good sign. Now I wonder why Zharr Naggrund was left out?

minty:

there are no ziggurat citys in the boxs, so no zharr naggrund.

helping out at GW does have it’s advantages, like discounts:cheers

Traitor King:

ahhh, Hb, i also only seem to get WD because i ‘collect’ it.

how did you all get your mags early? its not out till friday…

unless you suscribe. cheats.

AGPO:

Subscribers do indeed get stuff early, but I cancelled mine because I didn’t buy every issue anymore. Still, it took a break from the hobby to make me do this. HB, TK, take the plunge and miss an issue or two. It helps your bank balance if you only buy the ones which interest you

Perturabo:

I just got mine tody. I was in Peterborogh getting my passport sorted for my work trip to France, and the guy let me have a copy early for the flight.

I also ordered some bits for my IW Daemon Prince conversion, and weels and crew for my Siegeshakers. You can expect to see those at some point.

Traitor King:

But I do like the fact that the magasine keeps me in touch with updates and with the hobby ingeneral. A bit like after reading it i get inspired and go paint some hobbos.

Arashi:

I bought my WD this saturday in a normal newspaper store. Dont know if it was released eariler here in Spain, but I also noticed the CD mention. What a big surprise to find the home of the Dawi Zharr as an example!

And maybe I also will get the Mighty Empires expansion, it looks very interesting…
