Quoted for truth.

I wonder what the pricing strategy will be for Canada, as they just dropped prices significantly last year...

Kera foehunter:

what true troopers gw is !!! Well this is to funny !! i have to get a job there

dedwrekka:

Any releases on the price raise? Anyone know if it’s just effecting certain countries or currencies?

BilboBaggins:

All the prices I’ve seen were in Pounds so I’m guessing UK is the ones affected this time.

Kera foehunter:

I hope not !! but you know what power the machine!!!

UK prices going up tend to increase prices all over Europe at least.

BilboBaggins:

But the Pound has fallen against other currencies so they may just be trying to get the prices to match correctly.

Tarrakk Blackhand:

hmmmm…methinks it’s time for a Monster Hobbies gw sale!

Unlikely, GW usually don't adjust for currencies. It costs what it costs in pounds and damn the exchange rate.
However, the current rate favours GW. They are presumably paying most of their costs in pounds so each unit of a foreign currency the get in buys more in the UK. The only minus is that their cost of materials likely goes up as metals and stuff trade in dollars. So whether they gain or not depends on how much goes in and out in other currencies.
I would say the more likely reason is just plain old "raise our prices to keep up with costs".

Kera foehunter:

so maybe the price will go down here in U S !!

:o

GW lower prices.

It'll Never Happen. :mad

I've only seen them put one or two things on sale to get them out of the store. The gaming group I belonged to saw them take a bunch of boxes of models to the compactor outside the mall instead of selling them at a bargain or giving them away as prizes. :(

Actually, Bilbo, the pound isn’t so much weakening as the other currencies becoming stronger. The pound still isn;t weaker than them as well, which is still a bonus for us.

Ultimately, I;ve been pushed out of buying, but I may be getting a job there which gives me two advantages: one is having income with which to pay for things and the second is that I’d have a discount, meaning I may be able to afford something from GW every once in a while, lol.

I just thought is was funny when I was checking on a model while IMing a friend (hew wanted a Hewer) the cost on the GW US site was $40.00 and the UK site had it at 19.95 pounds (currency exchange had it at $27-28 that day.) Hit one of the discounters in the UK and even with shipping the price wound be less than the US price.

Thorne:

I think it´s GW´s normal behaviour!

Organize enough events in the shops and big tournaments ... this is a quite good customer retention!

And than you could dictate the prices (in a special frame ...) cause if the customer don´t buy their products their are "out"!

... and the younger ones of us will still buy it cause the parents have to pay, and will you always say "no" to you kiddies???

Its the truth, Having seen games rip you off shop for longer than most people have liked there cornflakes and remembering tentatively opening my issue 99 of white dwarf I can say without a shadow of a doubt games workshop make the rules make the games we all play and not only that they capture children at a early age.

Thusly making the market appeal to so many then the bigger the fan base the more people GW can rip off. Just look for suitable alternatives or even make your own and buy of ebay old school models because the day fo 5 space marines for £2.50 will never happen again

The majority of models can be made with cardboard with a little imagination or not

;)

and the perry plastics make a nice imperial guard regiment you just need to look long and hard for a more cost effective alternative

I'm thinking Maelstrom is doing pretty well these days, free shipping anywhere and a "weak" pound.
I've been "playing the currency market" several times during the years. Last time it was buying from the US, even with shipping it was cheaper. When a Land Raider is listed at $44 US and I'd pay ,50 locally, hmmm...

Thats what ive been doing recently. Ive been checking out loads of other companies and although most of the models arent as good as GW there are still some awesome pieces out there. Ive started buying a few Anima Tactics and Avatars of War (two of the companies that i would say produce some of the finest detailed 28mm models). They provide a good challenge and look awesome if painted well.

I would say Maelstromgames are doing very well. They started out as an ebay company, then started up their website which sold mainly GW. Now i have noticed that they are expanding their selection of models, probably because less people are buying GW models and are looking to bu alternatives. They are also good for Hobby Supplies like paint and brushes etc. And they frequently give out vouchers which i post on cdo when i get them. Its just a shame that the when you use a voucher they put the price up to GW prices and then take the value of the voucher off of that instead off of maelstromgames 10% discount.
