This_Is_My_Boomstick!!:

Im wondering when the second price rise will be as they normally split them up over the course of the year, if this is the first the second will be at the end of the year for the rest of the GW items

Kera foehunter:

i beet there do another one in october!!

and say how bad they did and have to raise another 3 %

So looking at this they are trying to clamp down on eBay, or potentially online 3rd party sellers, which will be impossible because if they succeed it moves elsewhere. Sorta like America's "War on Drugs".

This also doesn't effect place like the warstore which buys tons of kits then resells specific pieces. Neil even takes in stuff for trade.

GW is walking down a slippery slope, how so prices cannot go up indefinitely, people  think "no buying will ever happen". I disagree eventually you can price yourself out of a market.

Jamros:

I don’t think any other company increases their prices so often and to such an extent that even its regular fans look elsewhere for deals on their products than GW. Its ridiculous. A great deal of stuff is overpriced, and is now going to be more so. I mean, about a dollar for a plastic figure, no matter what the detail, was a little crazy sounding to my non-GW-playing friends, but now we have pay even more for little plastic and metal figures? I HATE PRICE RAISES!

I have purchased things off eBay before, and I’m also looking at an auction right now. I don’t think I’m following you guys exactly…are you saying that GW is trying to prevent eBay purchases by raising their prices?

Willmark:

No by the look of it GW is going to try and limit resellers and prevent them from reselling their stock on eBay.

BilboBaggins:

I try to buy from my Local GW so they have teh sales to stay open, but I’ve been so broke I haven’t purchased anything in a while. Raising the prices makes it harder for me to increase my armies or even think of buying a new one.

GW goes like it’s rules, like the one where retailers cannot sell GW products from an online website. That is the reason you have to call the War Store to place GW orders.

wallacer:

Apparently the next army is Skaven, so anyone planning to do an infantry heavy army of them is going to have to sell a kidney.

BilboBaggins:

I can see people getting a box of clan rats and making the front ranks from that one box and making proxies (pieces of tunnels) for each additional rank.

Kera foehunter:

well i deal with my local store !! and i get a discount when i buy there

slev:

The new WD arrived yeaterday. Most boxed sets are going up by smaller amounts (£12 infantry box goes to £15, i.e. up one retail price point).

Low turnover kits are going up by more.

Looking at the average 10th root of two annual price increase for inflation, core infantry sets are level now on long-term inflation, and are usually better kits than ten years ago, hence the product is technically cheaper.

Codices, starter sets, rule books, et al, are below ten-year inflation, and more voluminous, making them much cheaper.

Tanks and such are a little under ten-year inflation, making them cheaper, and again the kits have generally been improved.

So, what we are seeing is that a few, poor-selling kits have taken a price heik, to allow other lines to be kept cheaper. The other option was an even rise across the board, so this should save most gamers money at the end of the day.

Servius:

The US isnt getting much in the way of raises. other than the Starters and the Low Turnover stuff… the Core boxes stay the same for the most part.

Hashut’s Blessing:

The long-term inflation rates that they’re using, slev, is going to cost them a lot of customers, in my opinion. After all, just because over a longer period they are below the price they should be, doesn;t mean that they are becoming better value for money. If we looked at a (hypothetical) longer period that had a lower rate of inflation, then they;d be above it, for example. Relatively speaking, the prices are too high for today’s wage rates.

On the same note, that isn;t to say that I don;t see your point

Servius
yes but the 60 dollar to 75 dollar increase puts the starter sets exactly at the same price they were back in 1998-2003. and even then they had less value included in them. so, while it's a huge increase, quite frankly it's right along line...

Kera foehunter:

yea but that not all plastic models like they are now!!! 1998 had some metal

Servius:

actually… the 6th edition starters were $90 dollars. not $75. Also remember that 90 dollars 6 years ago would equate to nearly $120 today.

slev:

HB: Long term inflation rates I’m using are not GW calculated. They average out as the tenth root of two, which is less than retail inflation has been for the last decade, and underlying inflation has only fallen below that in the last six months.

Though we can both agree they’re still pricey.

The '99 price rise put the price of UK starters at the same price as they are now, and included around half as much.
