So what do you guys do to keep toned up and in shape? It’s that time of year again when we all start watching our waistlines, or thinking “this is the year I’m gonna get fit!” Do you prefer sports and other outdoory stuff, or do you hit the gym. Are you a bench junkie or do you head straght for the cross-trainer?
Last but not least - post your New Year’s fitness goals. If we all club in we can support each other to reach them
I don’t do ‘gyms’. I have not the motivation to stand at a piece of equipment and just ‘work out’. even with music/tv/etc
I play sports to stay in shape (hahaha, round is a shape. I love whoever first said that). I play fast pitch (softball) in the summer, squash with friends occassionally, and I’m playing on 2 volleyball teams this winter. I’m actually looking at picking up a second softball team for the summer, slo-pitch.
I’m all about ‘maintaining’ what I’m at now. Dropping some weight wouldn’t be bad, but if I don’t, I don’t mind.
I want to get back into shooting archery as it makes my arms and back stronger for my other sports. And I’d love to get back into field hockey. Man, that was about 5 years ago.
but if I can drop 5-10lbs, I’d be happy. Soooooooo, I’ll join your club. As a side note (and a bit of bragging on my part) I only put on about 3lbs this Christmas season, and I doubled my client lunches and stuff at work, plus eating out more with friends. AWFUL. but only 3 lbs! yippee!
I’m aiming to get my BF% down below 7.89, which was my personal best. To keep fit i hit the Gym before work and on sundays, play rugby, cricket and do MMA. If I can’t get to a gym I go running and do core strength work. I’m also looking to gain a bit of bulk to benefit my game
I haven’t been in shape since I had children… Wait, oblong is a shape right? Potatos have shape right? I’d post a before and after pic, but I’m afraid I’d cry too much…
before 5’10 220, currently pushing 276… somewhere around 33 it all went to my waist… I can’t afford a gym and play tennis and lacrosse with my daughters to keep from hitting “free willie” size.
I don’t know if I lost or gain weight but after getting a dog, going to badninton and growing freakeshly tall i’ve lost a lot but i’ve been eating appels lately so thats my idea of losing weight
Although I want to be big as i’m starting rugby and a rugby player need to be big
Meh… gyms are for the insane. Take the car, drive 20 mins to get downtown, take the elevator up a couple of floors, workout for 30mins on a stairmaster and drive back again. Not for me. But then I’m what one could charitably call frugal. OK, not all workouts work that way but I’d surprised if it wasn’t true more often than not.
It is about half an hours walk from my apartment to school, my room is on the 4th floor and I live on the 4th floor without an elevator in the building. I get almost enough exercise right there. Then again I don’t eat much either.
I noticed I’d lost almost 10 kilograms during the fall semester (august-december), the ladies I worked with this summer did not appreciate me sharing this information, their own fault for remarking I looked thinner
Maybe I should write a dieting book, “Eat less, Get thin!” I’m sure it would be a success.
Personal coaching, only 19.95, satisfaction guaranteed (well, mine).
I’m more a believer in eating less (and more importantly balanced) and exercising “naturally”.
But then again I look a lot like the concept art for the Beastman Gor. Horns and hoofs excluded, the rest is pretty much spot on.
Cardio (Run, fast-walk, or sports) three times a week, upper/lower body training twice a week, a physical job, and watching my diet (as it gets slowly worse and worse :P).
Though, if I don’t keep fit I get fired, which tends to give a good bit of motivation.
Well, oddly, I lost weight over christmas. Until new year’s, I lost 7 pounds, then put 2 back on.
It’s mostly about how ya do it, but I’m not bothered about my weight, so much as it’s placement and type. I have to go to the gym because that way I’ll actually excercise, but I can only go with someone, otherwise I don;t have the motivation.
I can make anyone lose weight if they listen to me, but I don;t want to lose weight so much as sort the weight out
End of the day where your body stores weitght is all down to your genetics, there isn’t a lot you can do about it. Burning fat is easy, sorting diets is also important.
Once I move house, I’ll have the space to permanently set-up my gym equipment and I can start getting into the shape I was before my back injury, when I had no problem cycling 120 miles a week commuting to/from work along with a couple of nights each week in a mosh-pit.
Well, I do intense training on the couch, have a good diet of cheese doodles, pizza, coffee and Mountain Dew. I do carpal tunnel exercises to keep my fingers nimble and a precisely controlled intake of chemicals for inspiration.
When the going gets tough, I do a careful back stretch.
And for fun, during summer, I play a few rounds of paintball with like 50lbs of gear.
Frisbee golf? This sounds too cool to not be explained further
AGPO
It's commonly known as disc golf. http://www.pdga.com/ is the national disc golf association.
Innova is a disc manufacturer that has sponsored and kept disc golf alive over the years. http://www.innovadiscs.com/
Basically it is like it sounds. You play golf with a frisbee or disc. But rather than holes in the ground, you toss the frissbee into a basket (like this one) http://arieljvan.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/disc-golf.jpg or this one http://www.massillonparks.com/parks/tinymce/imagemanager/images/disc_golf_image.jpg
here's a humorous video that shows the basics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFQ8S1LcioQ
here's some more info from a pro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkOE6TAMrY4&feature=related
most courses are a mixture of open ground and some trees, the course I play at has 2 open holes and 16 heavily wooded holes.
Currently worlwide the US has the most disc golf courses but Europe is currently making many courses ..
Of course you can buy a portable "hole" basket and set up your own course... Use the Innova site to check out things to purchase..
I've been playing (not professionaly) for about 6 years now.
here's a good rundown of disc types.. oh yes, there's a big difference. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIjsyCg60Ow&feature=related
be sure to check out his related videos.. it goes over the discs..
