[Archive] Matt Ward and the Chaos Dwarfs

Rhazzouth:

Today I was in the Spanish Games Day.

And there was him the artifisor of the 8º edition (that monstruosity).

I asked him about the chaos dwarfs, he told to me there’s going to be 2 more races but he says that he doesn’t know which are(that’s a lie my friend). After I asked that he looked at me with an assasain look:sick.

I think that this will be useful and dont a stupid thing

Nazhur:

Well, it doesn´t say much but it could be something

Grimstonefire:

That is interesting that he actually said there would be any more races, let alone CD. I’ve heard many people saying they couldn’t support any new races from the main studio because of shelf space in the GW stores or something.

Good work.

Uzkul Werit:

Chaos Dwarfs and Cathay.

Hopefully.

Rhazzouth:

Well, thanks but it’s only a thing dont know if its going to be fact, its only that he says.

Nazhur:

No, chaos dwarf and araby! But that would of course leave a big hole in my pocket as I want both :frowning:

Swissdictator:

I’d prefer Chaos Dwarfs and Dogs of War, but if not DoW I’d be happy with Chaos Dwarfs and Cathay or Kislev.

Border Reiver:

Lets hope it’s our old friends the Dawi Zharr and DOW (because DOW if done correctly could be used to represent just about any human nation state on the board).

AGPO:

If there were to be two new armies they’d be two out of Chaos Dwarfs, Kislev and Mercenaries. My money is on Dogs of War for one, as they’re the most financially viable. Kislev are a possibility but would you really want four human armies? (five including warriors of chaos)

Where does this rumoured fishman army sit in all of this? Did I misunderstand that it is going to be an actual army, of which the River Trolls are probably a part? If they are going to get their own "army" of sorts then they are probably going to include a few new Lords & Heroes, as well as a bunch of other models from existing armies (i.e. River Trolls, maybe some others). DOW would also need few new things to get people interested in starting an army with them, the rest of their army would use models from existing armies as well.

Maybe I missed it, but how soon do we know what these new armies will be?

Grimstonefire:

Fishmen are not ‘rumoured’, they are part of an ongoing running joke amongst the developers. That is all.

Nicodemus:

WHat a relief… I was thinking that pixies and leprechauns would be next…

Shakhorth:

NIcodemus
Yes, Leprechauns!  With rainbow shots, lucky charms ( ward saves ) & pots of gold!
Oh that would be so awesome and wrong at the same time. :cheers

AGPO:

Where does this rumoured fishman army sit in all of this?

NIcodemus
Nowhere. WA: Fishmen was the codename for Mordheim (that's a specialist skirmish game set several hundred years in the Warhammer World for you young bloods. A time when it was even grimmer than it is now, if that's possible) when it was in development. That's why the fish is a recurring motif in Mordheim. Over the years, the producers have continued to joke about 'fishmen' whenever some super secret project has been being worked on. This includes the last two editions, the Storm of Chaos and the Ogre Kingdoms.

Firehammer:

1.) I take this statement by Mat with a lot of salt. It may be intentionally misleading. GW likes this kind of jokes with potential rumour posters.

2.) DoW are dead. Jervis made it clear that they don’t want a “take the best of each army” army. The new focus is on fluffy armies with a general theme, and DoW doesn’t fit in there.

3.) Chaos Dwarfs and Cathay/Nippon are certainly interesting armies with a huge fan community, but GW always does what it likes. E.g. making Ogre Kingdoms out of the blue. So the new army might be something completely new.

Rhazzouth:

I agree with firehammer in his first reason. If you remember Games Workshop says in 2005 that there’s going to return the chaos dwarfs and well, they don’t do that.

AGPO:

Well they did kind of with the Hellcannon. That gave Hand of Hashut a massive boost back in the day.

ryanamandaanna:

I don’t know about “fishmen”, but in the last White Dwarf, there was a blurb about Dark Elves being destroyed by an underwater race, and in the image that showed the Dark Elves attacking the High Elves, there was some random sea shell creature heading towards the shore, which they even pointed out as a deep sea monstrosity.

DE were indeed the only link to the "fishmen", and if they would get a real armybook, then there must be more links in other books.
if they'll ever make new "fishmen"(which they won't) they will build it up slowly, like making another link appear in the HE book or sumfink.

AssurBahniZharr:

If you have ever played Man’owar from 90’s you could know that seas in warhammer world are as dangerous as the lands, just because they have plenty of giant creatures (sea drakes of dark elves being the smallest and the less evil), in fact there was the kraken, megalodon, giant crab and a Triton, lord of the sea beasts. Despite of this i really can’t imagine anything from the sea on tabletop battles. It can be, more probably that these will be used in peculiar scenarios…and that some large monster miniatures (frogewolrd?) will appear in the nex years in a similar way to the dwarf balloon and it’s scenario… IMHO

What do you think?
