[Archive] My Dwarf Factory [Snotling's Thread]

Grimstonefire:

I particularly liked the painting on the hot iron and the freehand on the sleeves.

Any chance of a shot from the sides?

Grimstonefire
If you want them Grim, I'll take them for you :hat off

Bassman:

Really cool. You proved once ofr all you are able to sculpt a mini at prolevel. I’d have to try one day…

I have to admit… you did not have my vote this time. The style is not my cup of tea. I think that cloack with hoods are really NOT for dwarfs but for elves… more, it looks too large for the poor dwarfs… but maybe because the dwarf is a little bit deformed.

Cross on the back is a little redundant, I do not understand why he carries a cross on his back. I would understand if it was stuck on the ground next to him but…

Not misunderstand me, I’m a person convinced that GW should contact you for new chaos Dwarfs and give you white paper  but this time there were better entries for my taste. If you entered your arcane engineer you would have my vote!

Do not worry, you’ll win GH next time

Snotling:

I like critics like that, makes me think about style and stuff ^^. Well I can understand that the style of this dwarf is not for everyones taste, it’s far away from the originals. He is a sorcerer of death, so the robe shall remind on the Grim Reaper. It would be better if the hood would hide his full face like it was intended, but I made the hood too small… Green Stuff is right now not exacly doing, what I will so I cannot fully plan what I sculpt ^^.

The cross isn’t redundant, it’s the most important something in the world!! Okay, I exaggerate but it is important for the model. It is an icon of Hashut on the model and it shall also remind on a tombstone and on religious stuff (for example the Protectorate of Menoth in Warmachine has a unit with carrys a huge cross as well). last but not least, marionettes were attached to crosses, you use them to control the puppet. I started to ā€œinventā€ this mini at the very beginning of my CD project and all I started was a face hidden behind a hood and a cross on his back… the rest came when I started sculpting him, some years later ^^

… and of course I will win the next GH! just kiddin’ but I realy hope that I can make a mini for that, can’t wait to know the topic of the next GH

Bolg:

Might you be thinking of sculpting a model for casting in the future? I love your style and would most defiantly buy one if this sorcerer was available (like that kaosic model maybe).

Snotling:

well, right now I’m not satisfied with my sculpting skills, so I’m far away from producing. I also make the CDs for me, not to make money. Casting is a lot of work and pretty expensive and I don’t think I would sell so much stuff that it’s worth a try ^^

This was my first try of sculpting a whole mini, let’s see what the future brings, maybe this one was just lucky and all my other sculpts become hell ugly ^^

Bolg:

Snotling
You selfish bastard!!!
But I completely understand (: If you would ever consider it, I would buy it. I'm a fan of your style.

Skink:

Oh, a staff, now I got it… Pretty much in theme.

I do agree with you: hoods, crosses etc are strictly linked with death sorcery… I have really nothing to say about him a part than well done.

Clay shaper??? Ehm… As soon as I disembark this @*^%"Ā£ cruise ship I’d like to try sculpting something. My problem is that I don’t have any knowledge!!! I’m sure on the web there’s plenty of tutorials etc, but would it be possible to know wich tools r u using??? (maybe a VISUAL hint…:cheers)

Bassman:

Google anyone?

Try the image search function and type clay shaper…

I’m pretty sure if you have been into an art shop (colorificio in Italian) you have already seen them.

Ogrob:

When I went looking for clay shapers, I found that they were called paint shapers in my local arts store. Apparently they can also be used to make patterns in thick paint

Anyways, thought that might help the search.

Snotling:

I have a Clay Shaper set looking like that:

First I only had the right one, it is good for the most kinds of putty work, but I liked it so much that now I have all. Well I want to make some tutorials (because I wasn’t nominated for the Hobbyist Community Award and now I want your love back  Bold is right, I’m a selfish bastard :hat off) as long I have the motivation for it. I can start with clothes, right now I’m sculpting three dwarfs which will wear robes. I started yesterday so I’m still workding on the armatures, but when I make the clothes, I try to keep in mind to takes some photos.

And what does a Skink on a cruise ship… and why he has internet, what kind of pirat arrrrh you? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

:yar

Kloofpumph:

Awsome. No more needs to be said.

Hazkar:

hey snotling, what is the german name for clay shaper?

Snotling:

It’s ā€œClay Shaperā€

Well I don’t know if they are translated, just ask for rubber sculpting tools, but you can also order them here: http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/shop/index.php?list=CLAY%20SHAPER , it’s a great shop anyways.

Hazkar:

okay…could guess that

thanks

Snotling:

As requested, here is another pic of my death sorcerer from the sides.

I also made a picture of my 4 Sorcerers, one of each lore:

Fire, Shadow, Death and Metal

clam:

Awesome, awesome pictures - and you have come a long way since you did that fire sorcerer back in 2007 (I think it was). All of them would have brought you a medal in GH (IMO) - and my personal favorite is still that old fire sorcerer, he is one of it’s kind - and one of the most brilliant ideas I’ve seen so far - on how to do a CD sorcerer. But then, I’m also the grumpy old dane - that dwells on the past - and all it’s glory.

Snotling:

Thanks Clam! Yeah it’s cool to see my progress in this form. I think today the fire sorcerer would look different, especially the beard. But I still love the hand puppet  I was also pretty proud that I saw so many clones of him and I haven’t see enough so far ^^

Loki:

I dont think i have ever seen such a amazing group of sorcerers, they are just pure awesome great work Snotling, cant wait to see what models you do next

Mario:

They all look so great, make me want to do them and copy them, not that i could

And i like the old fire sorcerer and his beard very much!
