[Archive] My Other Distractions

Abecedar:

Thanks Admiral. I was planning on using the Uglies to practice different skills on, Though disguising where the parts come from might be a bit harder.

Admiral:

Going full graffiti on some parts might help.

Abecedar:

I’ve been working on my Saga ladies when I’m not at home as and when I can find time. This is how I’m going to make the slings for some of them.

Watch this space, because I took the photos on my new phone and I’m now fighting with photobucket

Abecedar:

One unit of my Amazons will be Levy armed with slings.  They are the lowest ranked unit in any Saga army.
My first plan was to make the slings out of plasticard and then greenstuff them but they were to fragile.
Next idea was this one.  To use a staple as the body instead of plasticard.

Fuggit Khan:

That sling is perfect!

I’m always interested in seeing all the ways that you use wood, metal staples and wire to make such cool conversions.

Cool stuff :hat off

Abecedar:

thanks mate. I was drop dead tired yesterday when I put the first plasticard sling in, two layers of thin strips glued together to give the detail needed. Then when I tried to angle it, it immediately snapped. I toyed with the idea of heating them for a while before thinking of a much better answer.

Jackswift:

Well done. The metal will be a much stronger lasting solution than the plasticard would have been. Im always frustrated when I accidentally snap off little custom pieces because the material wasn’t strong enough.

Abecedar:

Thanks. I don’t need to do many custom weapons for Saga and the only other metal ones I’ve ever really done anytime was making my own spears out of florist wire for the irish warband.

Abecedar:

I’m not real smart, There was two of the mounted archers with bows that were broken and it took me 2 days to realise I could repair them the same way.

The single (this time) staple is folded over and glued in. Now just a quick bend into shape.

And a little dab of liquid green stuff.

Admiral:

Good repair work and slingmaking!

TheHoodedMan:

Good job on the bow. “My son” has some X-wing ships, too :-), by the way.

Abecedar:

My Saga Amazons are now complete (except for two minor repairs post traveling last night).

The whole bunch.

You can see here in the fore-ground and the third pic the unit of Levy-slingers that I had to make the slings for.

Abecedar:

And here’s a few other shots.

Fuggit Khan:

Looking good :hat off

So I’m not familiar with Saga…is it a game system/rules? Or a line of miniatures?

And are they metal or plastic?

gorgarrak:

Saga is a Dark Age skirmish game released through Gripping Beast who sell plastic and Metal miniatures.

Mike

Abecedar:

I forgot these guys, an add-on to either army that I got for a few dollars last january.

Last week.

This morning

Abecedar:

The little 8 man archer squad for Saga is finally finished

Just some animals to do now.

TheHoodedMan:

well done:cheers

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Abecedar:

Thanks THM.

Here is the animals. The mule is a “comic” one with a silly face.

They get used as usual, as objectives etc

Darkmeer:

Oooh, I like those bulls/Oxen. Where are they from?
