[Archive] New Beastmen rumours

Hashut’s Blessing:

The frontmost unit, on the right, second rank in on the lefthandside of the unit: he’s facing the wrong damned way!

AGPO:

Dear god, I’ve never been more greatful that I can’t afford the latest army. I’m definately sticking to my current beastman collection and hoping that the rules are better than the figures.

If I’d gone out for a walk with my dog, waited for her to perform and stuck that on a 40x40 base, it would still have made a more convincing minotour than GW’s latest effort - and it would have stunk less.

The extra variety to the gors and ungors is more than welcome, but the new bestigor are very dissapointing. GW seem to be continuing a trend that started with the sixth edition Lizardmen and Beasts of Chaos for much more static models. The first multipart plastic kits all had seperate legs, torsos, arms and heads and could be assembled in any number of poses. Now they seem intent on releasing models wich can only be assembled into one or two poses. I’ll be sticking to my old bestigors from the good old 8 for £5 monopose core troop boxed sets (remember these?); they may look dated but on ebay I can get about 10 of these guys for the cost of 1 goldigor.

As for the pumbagor - why? It’s a terrible model and I don’t see what purpose it serves. Is it just supposed to be a large tuskgor? Is it replacing Spawn in the list? If it is I’m carrying on with my old spawn. If not I’m using the metal orc special character’s boar instead, it’s a far more dynamic figure.

GRNDL:

Agreed. Disappointing. I was hoping that the new army rekindled my interest in the beastman models I already have, but after this, I really doubt it. The older models were very cool, IMO. These seem to have strayed into WoW territory and lost their dark edge.

Servius:

The minotaur looks like the result of one of 2 things…

Either one… The Sculptor is an epileptic. or two… He was on Acid MANSON!

Xander:

I think the thing that I dislike the most about the Bestigors is that their heads are all nearly identical. Get some new shapes for those horns! The same pose I can tolerate, but non-unique heads? Give me a break!

starscream:

Hakuna matata!

I’d heard the Pumbagor was terrible but wasnt prepared for that.

I’ve been painting up some BOC in preparation for this release, am let down by all those new figs. I cant see them selling too many bestigor at £25 per 10 either.

Am glad I have plenty old minotaur minis.

Am also glad i recently bought 12 metal Khorngor from Superfella. just need to track down another 3 and I’m sorted.

black hammer:

The miniatures just look too… lumpy.

Border Reiver:

And the beastmen leave me going - ewwww! Damn those are ugly models - I guess I need the old Minotaur lord to be the basis of a decent conversion to a daemon of Hashut.

slev:

Actually, there are reasons behind the reduction in the number of parts per model:

1. To ensure they rank-up, as it was a problem with some models (e.g. monkey-skaven);

2. Cheaper to tool the mould, keeping costs down;

3. Complaints from some sectors of the gaming community that there where too many bits.

1. Ensuring models rank up is easy, you just have to test fit, assemble them in ranks and then number the bases. It ain't rocket science.
2. Then why has GW felt the need put prices up so much if their production costs are falling?
3. There are similar sections of the community that complain about the length of time it takes to paint a model, so should gw only stock the foundation paints and go flat colour?

These are pretty poor reasons if you ask me, but then logic was never GWs strong suit.

Anyway, happier topic, as I've got news on the rules! They're a pretty mixed bag if you ask me, some stuff is frankly awesome, whereas a couple of units have now been made signifigantly worse. I'll post a full summary later when I've got time, but for now here are some highlights:

- Herds are gone - Gors and Ungors are seperate and fully ranked. They are now Ld 7 but gors will now have to pay an extra point for ahw or shield.
- Ungor raiders are a skirmishing unit with short bows.
- Raiders is gone
- Ambush has changed a lot. For a unit to ambush you must have an equivalent unit of the same type or size deployed on the board. From turn 1 roll a dice. 1 - opponent gets to place unit. 2-3 doesn't arrive yet. 4 unit enters from left table edge. 5 unit enters from right table edge. 6 unit enters from any table edge of players choice.
-  primal fury - more or less army wide special rule. Take a Ld check when in combat, if you pass the unit gets hatred, if you get double 1, it gets hatred AND frenzy
- Chariots are still core, and only cost 80pts. Tuskgors only get +1S on the charge instead of +2. For +65pts can be upgraded to be pulled by a razorgor, which makes it a lot tougher but takes a special slot.
- Bestigor become a special choice and keep pretty much the same stats, but gain an ability to capture banners if they win a round of combat, even if they don't break the enemy.
- Minotours are now S5 and get impact hits (no min. distance). They also have a cool new special ability which gives them frenzy if they win a round of combat, and then an extra +1A for every consecutive round they win until the end of the combat. However they may only pursue and overrun 1d6 and cost 15pts more than they used to.
- Centigors are still special and not fast cav, although a hero level special character allows you to take them as core. Drunkenness rules are much better, with a single roll at the start of the game:
1-2 Sober! +2 Init
3-4 - hangover from hell! re-roll Primal Fury, -1 M
5-6 Drunken Bravado - Stubborn.
- Harpies are back(!) as a special choice. Trolls, Ogres and Dragon Ogres are gone :(
- Razorgors are another special choice unit, M7, S5, T5, W3, A4 get +1 S on the charge and cause fear. Only Ld6 though.
- There is also a 'Jabberwock' (I can't remember the proper name they gave it but it was poor) which has fly, terror and is ITP. Any unit within 12" takes a LD check or suffers wounds equal to the ammount they fail by with no save, 5 attacks, T5, 5 or 6 wounds.
- Rare slots are now awesome, as well as the spawn and the giant, there's a 'cyclops' giant which not only has good base stats, but counts as a stone thrower that can move and shoot and also has an awesome anti-magic ability. Every enemy magic user with los to it must take an Ld test or count any failure to cast as a miscast. The fact he's a large target makes both these abilities awesome ;).
- Ghorgon is another new rare, they have S,T,W and A all 6, but also a special ability allowing them to make one special attack with 4+ killing blow. They are also stubborn, casue terrror and are ITP.
-  Doombull is a lot better as you can now give him any magic items not just weapons, also there's a hero choice gorbull who can be upgraded to bsb. Both do d3 impact hits
- Beastlord and Wagor are now Ld9 and 8 respectively, and both have T5
- Morghur has been well and truly nerfed, and is apparently now just a character level spawn with a magic attack that may create more spawn
- There is a flying shamen special character called Malagor who looks pretty sweet
- No marks but there are mutations that can be taken in the same way as gifts in WoC. Also four pages of magic items.

AGPO:

Some stuff on items posted by Ravik on the Herdstone

There’s a pricey killing blow item - (most of yer points) killing blow plus when the character kills a character in a challenge, they become unbreakable and cause terror. This carries onto whatever unit the character was with.

Edit - All yer points item - Their LD is used for your S

We’ve got that Bonecrusher mace back, this time Stonecrusher, +3S and not a GW. S10 vs Steamtanks, Chariots, Warshrines, Corpse Cart etc.

Nangelder, cause terror and models wounded by this get -1 ld per wound suffered

Hunting spear, spear in cc, single bolt from bolt thrower, may shoot after moving (not marched) and may S&S

Axes of khorgor, two hands, +1A, re-roll missed to hit in cc (Cheaper this time)

Two handed weapon, +d3 attacks and if a 6 is rolled, they ignore armour - rolled at start of combat, until end of phase

Brass cleaver, single bonus attack against each model in btb

Everbleed, every time suffer a wound, on a 6, model suffers another wound with no saves of any kind and keep rolling as long as you keep rolling 6’s

Ravik
Also, here’s the full magic lore, which looks awesome!
Magic - Lore of the Wild (7 spells!) 0-6 like the old Tzeentch
0- Bestial Surge - 7+ movement spell, doesn’t make you charge though, might be faq’d

1- Viletide - 7+ 5d6 S1 24" magic missles

2 - Devolve, 9+, enemy units within 12" take ld, amount failed = # of wounds with no AS

3 - bray-scream, 10+, one character within 12" makes a breath weapon attack at s3 with no AS (I like this one)

4 - Traitor-kin, 10+, all enemy models within 12" riding a mount of any kind suffer number of attacks = mounts attacks w/ same S. same for monsters & handlers and chariots. no AS bonus for mounted or barding, etc. (Hello Hydras! biggrin.gif )

5 - mantle of ghorok, 13+, friendly character within 6", model gains +d6 S and +d6 S (max 10), if 1 or more 6’s rolled, model suffers a wound with no saves of any kind (Interesting one, and can be potentially devastating)

6 - Savage dominion, 16+, ‘summon’ a giant, gorghon or jabberslythe, place at any point on table edge and move as if returning from pursuing an enemy off the table

CheTralfara:

I don’t think anyone in their right mind would ever complain about an overabundance of bitz… This is a modelling hobby afterall, not just toy collecting.

Baggronor:

primal fury - more or less army wide special rule. Take a Ld check when in combat, if you pass the unit gets hatred, if you get double 1, it gets hatred AND frenzy
Is there anyone left in the world who doesn't get hatred now?
Chariots are still core, and only cost 80pts.
So, the other more civilised races require special slots for chariots, but a bunch of sheepmen who live in the woods don't? Hmm. They better not count towards minimum core.

Disappointed that they nerfed Ambush.

Surprised at the casting values on the spells too, mostly very high.
Then why has GW felt the need put prices up so much if their production costs are falling?
When did production costs affect price point? Its GW :)

cricketofdeth:

I am really upset with the minotaurs getting impact hits! That was was suposed to be an ogre thing. Also, no min. distance!? How is it going to be better than the ogres?

I say the new ogres better rock socks in the “impact hits on the charge” department and have very similar rules, but better cause they’re ogres.

On the up side, I do have a tonne of extra ogres I can make into minotaurs.

CheTralfara:

It makes A LOT more sense that minotaurs would have a BULL charge than an ogre! Especially with those giant horns!

Minotaurs are close to Hashuts heart! Chaos Dwarfs even mutate into them! Are you not a disciple of Hashut? Do not deny his minions their impact hits! :stuck_out_tongue:

But honestly, why the hell do Chaos Ogres not have Bull Charge? explanation…?

AGPO:

Because the chaos ogres look like anorexic pansies and don’t warrant anything as cool as impact hits? :stuck_out_tongue:

tjub:

Dont know if this has been shown previously in this thread, but WFT this is ugly…

Kera foehunter:

T-jub i think it kinda cool!! sorta half cook pork

Border Reiver:

Where’s the merkat?

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Baggronor:

My eyes!!! My eyes!!! :expressionless:

I don’t see why Beasts get so many cool extras and WoC didn’t? Skirmishing Marauders with shortbows would work nicely (its what many Vikings did after all). They did this in 6th ed as well, BoC just had vastly more competitive/useful choices overall.

Because the chaos ogres look like anorexic pansies and don’t warrant anything as cool as impact hits? :stuck_out_tongue:
Chaos Ogres are just an admission that they couldn’t think of anything good to put in the WoC list. Same as Forsaken. Should have pushed the Norse angle and had were-kin and stuff.
That was was suposed to be an ogre thing. Also, no min. distance!? How is it going to be better than the ogres?
I think its safe to assume Ogres will get the same rules when they are redone.
