This will likely serve as some fantastic fodder for many new Chaos Dwarf conversions - GW has just announced the Kharadron Overlords, which some pretty nice looking steampunk Dwarf models. The following pics are shamelessly borrowed from the Warhammer Community blog.
Some cool flying models
And airships… finally, I have my airships!!!
Units
Some great characters coming as well!
They’re all a little too technologically advanced for my liking, but still a fantastic starting place for conversion :hat off
Indeed, they may serve as conversion fodder, only, AoS models tend to be harder to convert, as they are usually click-and-glue, not many assembling options, so converting would be harder.
I suppose there is some material there to make dwarf engineers or chaos dwarf daemonsmiths. It all looks cool, but at the moment I don’t see too much potential for my armies. I’m put off by the exoskeletons on some of the characters, and I don’t know what some of those weapons are supposed to be.
BTW I love the lord in the second pic with his twirly moustache and high hat. So British!
Oh boy! What should I say. I have mixed feelings about this. I really like Steampunk fantasy but there are different styles of Steampunk.
There are some good things here but in a typical GW manner it’s too much.
No wonder someone hast mistaken them for Space Stunties.
Everything’s so overloaded. So much redundant stuff. I can totally understand when the players of typical classic Dwarfs are disappointed and disgusted by that release.
Not bad really but not a must buy (although I like this kind of miniatures, but the posing of the infantry looks a little bit stiff).
However, the new GW models - Forge world fantasy or AoS - look good altogether. Sadly very few are adaptable for Fantasy armies like 9th Age, 8th Edition armies or KoW.
They really hit every steampunk cliche... Bronze, check. Zeppelins, check. Curled mustache, check. Unneccesary tophat, check. ...

Don't forget to mention cogs. One of the absolute essentials are cogwheels my friend. Cogwheels in various sizes and forms. And women wearing corsages and pilot goggles. Oh yeah!
I like these, but there are completely Space Marine Dwarfs in a Fantasy setting. The ten man box is your Tactical Squad. The five man box is the Heavy Gun crew, and the guys with the balls on their back are the assault dwarfs. I guess it works well with Space Marines, why not bring it to AoS (or is it AoS40K now).
I think their design is too far off what pre AoS dwarves were. I don’t think these tie in good with the rest of warhammer fantasy models (though skaven have some design ideas that I see reflected to an extent here). But hey, Age of Sigmar, right?
That being said, I think some chaos dwarf units might benefit with this references. This gives an idea of what would be technologically possible for the most crafty of dwarf engineers to come up with, which is a good source to create CD mechanical adaptations.
As a guy who isn’t really impressed by most scifi or steampunk things, but really like fantasy stuff such as a scalemail, pauldrons, shields and swords this is not a release where I’m the targeted audience. So instead of bringing the negativity, I’ll just state, that different folks have different things that keeps em going. This is definitely not my thing
I could (perhaps) imagine the airship being fantasy enough for me, if it was heavily converted. But that is probably it for me
Biggest problem I have with these is that they’re in the wrong system; they really should be in 40k as a revival of the Squats. If my wargaming purchases for the near future weren’t earmarked for building a pre-Heresy Thousand Sons army, I’d be sorely tempted to get these to be count as Chaos Squats.
