Oddly these are actually starting to tempt me to get into AoS. I think maybe they’ve gone so far from the old asthetic, my mind’s finally making the mental break to accept it as a completely new universe rather than a continuation of the old. The magitech vibe is kinda interesting, although strangely I’ve never really been interested in other systems like Warmahordes which are also magitech fantasy games.
I just can't believe that balloon hero clearly has a chainsword... I mean c'mom!
Carcearion
He could be a good Astragoth conversion, as long as you take away the contraption on his back and that stupid hat.
I kinda like this dwarfs and their new vibe. They would be great as squats, demiurgs, mechanicum troops, or chaos dwarfs of a very special kind.
Dînadan is right. AoS has now left Warhammer Fantasy behind. I'm not really hostil to that, but they are now two completely different settings. Best to consider them that way, instead of regretting that AoS doesn't look like our good old Warhammer world.
Admin step in I’ve deleted a ton of posts. This thread is for discussing the new kit of dwarfs.
For people still derailing anything related to AoS, please go somewhere else an do so.
This thread is about miniatures, plastic soldiers - like them or don’t.
Do not (again) make this about GW getting into a new setting!
Back speaking miniatures I really like the bits in these kits. After some threads here I’ve looked into the whole Inqisimunda/Inq28/Necromunda things. these bits would work really good in that. I might even get a set and combine them with the Lost Kingdom heads. I want myself a Chaos Squat unit - just because.
These bits might work even better Mantic Forge Fathers.
Also - I like the chain sword bit. Looking at the other contraptions and think it works well. Certainly fits both Skaven stuff and those boltercrossbows the Stormcasts are running around with.
Inquimunda Chaos Squats is a good idea. Low model count, too, so one can go to town with conversions. :hashut
It’s a bit funny. I’ve never been much interested in magitech fantasy, being ever firmly into historically/mythologically/folklorically based Tolkienish Warhammerish fantasy smörgåsbord with limited technology. Yet all of a sudden Age of Sigmar looks much more appealing than e.g. Warmahordes. All it took was one steampunk dwarf release. In due time I might have started a dedicated AoS force had the new space dwarfs not been earmarked for 40k Squat duty. It’ll be interesting to see what else lies around the corner in AoS.
And despite everything else with these recent upheavals, it’s a sign of health that Games Workshop still has got their Dwarf preference running strong: Monthly magazine named White Dwarf, Warhammer world pub named after Bugman the Dwarf, Dwarfs being the first 7th edition army book released even before that edition, and the very last Warhammer army treated before the End Times. And much attention given to Dwarfs in Age of Sigmar with two armies already released.
One can never have too many Dwarfs. This is basic rule number 1 in any fiction worth touching.
Random thought, but the chainsword could also be useful for a homebrew Bloodbowl team - iirc goblins used to be able to take a guy with a chainsword so why not Chaos Dwarfs too?

Most teams can take a chainsaw player, though if I recall correctly the Chaos Dwarves don't have that option? There are, a human, marauder, dwarf, undead and goblin star players with chainsaws.

I meant homebrew rules for a regular player; iirc the goblins get to take a chainsword guy as a regular player (0-1 choice) rather than as a Star Player. Thinking about it, if you wanted you could homebrew rules for campaigns where you can buy equipment to add to players.
Old dwarf’s grumbling: “Son, I know you’d hardly believe but, when I was young, centuries ago, dwarfs used to fight for honor, defend our clans and beer. Once we were FANTASY warriors…”
Biggest problem I have with these is that they're in the wrong system; they really should be in 40k as a revival of the Squats. If my wargaming purchases for the near future weren't earmarked for building a pre-Heresy Thousand Sons army, I'd be sorely tempted to get these to be count as Chaos Squats.
Dînadan
That's very true. I get a very Squat vibe from these guys.
Having read the WD on these guys (which incidentally is the first time I can recall seeing a whole model range being described without coming for sale immediately), I am definitely growing more attached to them.
So fluffwise they are basically sky pirates who trap magical gold in the air (I know) and use it to power their weapons.
A real stretch of any sort of Dwarf fluff… However, crazy as this is, they describe it as being the literal physical breath of a god (whichever one that is, as I never got to the end of the End Times to see which gods are still around).
Which does appeal a little.
I thought I’d share my crazy idea for a conversion, which I may never get around to doing but it just seems too cool.
It would be called the Black Kraken and be a CD airship with mechanical tentacles out the front. Using the ones from the maulerfiend Or some others if I could find them.
Anyone else think this may be the closest we get to Chaos Dwarves in the new edition?

There are Chaos Dwarfs in this edition. The Legion of Azgorh is still being sold by FW, there are rules for it, and players still rock it proudly on the battlefield of AoS.
That said, I don´t think that these can mirror anything that has ever been done with any archetipal Dwarfish concept. These guys are unique in my eyes. Personally, I prefer a more medieval/Tolkien-ish kind of fantasy but hey, if people think that they are a good bang for their buck then go to town :D!

I was surprised to see CD LoA artwork being used on the GW website to advertise AoS. Except that it makes perfect sense since it looks so cool.
If there is one faction that doesn’t need a makeover to become protected IP, it’s the chaos dwarfs, no? Sure, there are knock-offs, but especially with the big hats, they are pretty unique and truely original from GW.
Bleh… considering how most of the other make overs have gone, I tremble in terror at what GW might do to reboot them… Although maybe making them all firery bull-themed Necrons could be cool
Have to say. I quite like these, not enough to actually buy them, since I have too much on my plate already. Like someone said… 5-10 years ago, I’d be all over these. That said… these are really some very nice sci-fi, steam turning diesel-punk style models.

Skiiiiink! I'm Dragonfire on the other forum. :D
And I know Legion of Azgorh are still "supported" in this new edition, but I'd like to see something new for them before I'll believe that GW is going to support them. Like a new unit or something.
