[]despite what others maybe have said, your thunderers definite got one of my votes and are bloody brilliant, its how chaos dwarfs should be portrayed; as industrious buggers, always thinking of something bigger and better. they were similar to the ones that i had visioned in making to be either used as the frontline of the squad or a special unit.
[] The the beard tutorial is impressive and am keen to give it a go.
[*] The brass etching is ingenious, and is a much better idea, than trying paint CD images by freehand haha.
@Daemon-smith - I’m not sure exactly how I’m going to finish off the base of the palanquin that the Doombull is bearing… still needs a little thought before I consider it ‘finished’.
While not the usual ‘army’ update, this is something for one of the oft’ neglected parts of the army - the gamer! I figured if I’m going to go to the local shop again soon to game I have to represent!
Thanks Baggronnor and Grupax. I realize I did not explicitly ask permission to use your work, but this is just a one-off for myself. I’m not re-distributing them or anything like that
nice shirt, but, as i saw you bought alot of minis from TOM(sadly) wil you update soon agian?

Well those guys are all on the back burner as they're 'extras'. Once I start getting some stuff painted I may go back and press them into service. The Blunderbuss models will probably get used first. There's 30 of them, added to my existing 72 Blunderbuss models and I'll be able to field a scary horde of them ;)
I should correct myself though, as I'm fudging the counting because of unit fillers. The unit fillers replace a total of 18 models in four different units. So in terms of real Blunderbuss models I really I own 70 of the original Blunderbuss metals, 2 of Dirk's Black Dwarf models, and then another 17 guys that are converted from Dwarf Thunderer's/BFSP models. If I make up two more 2x2 unit fillers I'll have enough for 6 units of 18 Blunderbussers ... and still have a few left over for a future unit ;) So I'm quickly closing in on 1300 pts worth of of Blunderbuss units. Wheee.
Back to some painting. Ran a few painting tests for colour schemes, etc. to see how they’d turn out before I start painting up my hordes of troops…
I’m also slowly getting through Master Imperious Gharzakk Goldgreed’s unit of Dawi Slaves… just applying the first coats of base colours. I’m going for 5 beard colours, probably with some further variations in shading, etc: black, white, rusty-red, brown and dark sandy yellow. I’m wishing I’d gone the extra step to cover up the Dwarf runes on all those axes and they’re decidedly un-Dawi-Zharr!
Wow, excellent job. I was always skeptical with red (or similar) non-strictly metallic colored scale armor, but let me tell you that yours looks amazing, not cartoony at all. What color scheme did you use?
Excellent paint job on the bull centaurs armour. Looking forward to seeing a whole unit of them. The only criticism i have is the hat. I cant decide if i like the blue and gold or not. I think if you covered up more of the blue with the gold so that the blue was just a thin line then it would look much better .
For the slayers I think you should give the whole model a wash of watered down devlan mud or black/brown mix. It will help them look really dirty and more like slaves.
I’m seriously impressed at you giving the whole unit a hair cut. I have cut the hair off enough slayers in my time to know the work involved.

For the armour I went with Blood Red base coat over white primer
Then a heavy wash of Baal Med, and once that dried a very light wash of Devan Mud around the edges and in crevasses, etc. Followed by a moderate dry brush of more Blood Red (not totally 'dry brushed' it was generous), then a small amount of dry brushing with Blazing Orange and finally a few highlights of Sunburst Yellow.
So based on the latest podcast we were talking about Chaos Dwarf 'counts as' armies. I've really only got one unit that I'm working on, but there's loads of room for expanding to a Chaos Dwarf-themed VC army ;)
Basically this would be a group of CD Warriors who have been risen from the dead by a Chaos Dwarf who has picked up some Necromantic magic in his travellings. ... could be used to represent VC Skeletons or Zombies, etc. The CD Sorcerer is just acting as a unit filler... and as you can see from the actual infantry I've got a long way to go!!
Alternatively, this could ultimately be a group of undead that 'counts as' Chaos Dwarf Warriors... and yes, some of them will be getting bits of armour, scraggly remnants of beards, and lots of GS to fill in gaps, missing arm bones, etc!
Found a home for one of the small Runes of Hashut I etched...
So the infantry are mostly Skeletons and Zombies from HeroQuest, but the one with the hat (Empire Wizard's sprue) is from Dark World. I much prefer these models as opposed to the current line of undead as these models bits are proportioned better for a dwarf - you still need to shorten the spine or body trunk, legs, arms, etc., but overall the heads, hands and feet are not as 'dainty' as the other undead are at present. These heads look like they could be Dwarf skulls.
Aigh! How could you chop up your Heroquest models so?? :o
Everything looks great, of course, altho when I saw your Undead ‘CD’ unit I winced a bit! I don’t play HQ anymore but I think I would rather leave everything intact out of a sense of reverence for my childhood
However, I echo clam’s question: how did you remove the bases?
How do you motivate yourself to paint so much skin? Really admire your persistence and enthusiasm.
It's all looking great. Really like the PJ on the BC armoury. Will all your dwarfs look like that?
Btw: Is taht Heroquest skellies and zombies? Any hints/good advices how to remove the base?
clam
So answer these in order: It's been tough motivating myself with all those Dwarf slaves. Enthusiasm has been waning, in part because there's 48 Dwarfs there to paint... in actual fact there's 43 Dwarfs there that are all pretty 'samey', so I'm painting the other special ones intermittently as a reward for finishing the more boring ones ;)
As for the armour of the BC - My plan is for a number of my Chaos Dwarfs to have armour like that, and I'm just finishing up a unit of Warriors w/ Blunderbusses the same way. As I've got ~10K points worth of Chaos Dwarfs I'm going to change up the colour scheme after a while...
And yes, those are HeroQuest figs :hat off ... more below

Khan!
I can only bring myself to chop up those HQ undead because I've got so many of them. I have ~13 copies of HQ (3 of which are fully painted, furniture and all and one mind unpunched/on sprues) and countless copies of Return of the Witch Lord (which also came with extra undead). I basically started with a large ziploc bag of undead that were all extras, so I don't feel like there's any real loss. I even gave away a 'good' copy of HeroQuest to my boss' kids this past X-mas and their 3 kids played it for the whole time they were off school - and not playing the video games and such that they got from their folks.... WIN!! :D
OK, so clipping the bases:
You will need lots of little blobs of Greenstuff to fill in gaps in bone, etc.
The next stage with these guys once I've got most of them laid out is to armour a bunch of them...
~~~~~~~~~~
Oh, and here's my idea for a cheesy fence - the Chaos Dwarf Daemon Fence:
The idea is that some characters run ahead of the army with these magic rods containing bound daemons, and drive them into the ground. Once they're activated they crackle with warp energy and the bound daemons can be seen attempting to escape, instilling Terror in anyone facing the fence ;) It needs some hands or something too... but realistically I'm not sure I'll bother finishing it as I'm not sure it'll ever be used.
Thanks, Nicodemus - hoped you have found a more ‘gentle’ method removing the base.
Another question. Have you had any problems priming them. I’ve primed a few white (The army painter - primer) - and it seems like the airosol melts the surface slightly - lost two fimirs during to that? Have you spray primed any of yours? - and if so, how did it go?
