tjub:

Really impressive collection you have, and some great conversions. The slave unit is awesome!

clam:

Awesome, awesome collection of miniatures - and so many cool conversions in there.

Now, please start paint them

Nicodemus:

Looking over the past ~6 weeks or so…

- looking forward seeing it painted.

clam
Now you “only” have to paint them!

Zanko

Blackheart

Loki

Da Crusha
Can’t wait to see the painted unit!

bas_2312

Loki
Can’t wait to see that painted up!!

dncswlf
When will you show us previous unit painted

Gar Shadowfame
But I guess it is time for you to do some paint-jobs. This  great army needs some paint to be the perfect whoreship to Hashut!

Dhark
As Dhark said, slap some paint on them!

Bassman
I agree some paint would make Hashut proud

Shakhorth
Now just waiting form some colour

Nazhur
Now, please start paint them

clam
You guys are killing me!!! ! :|  x.x

x.x

… x.x

Holy HASHUT!! -> :hashut    I’ll paint some stuff then!! :cheers

Guess I’ll need to get organzied with a few units and war machines then. I’m still waiting on brass bitz… but I guess I can paint up the Warriors without their shields for now.

The one medal I’ve really wanted is the “Army Showcase” one:

Ishkur Cinderhat, Baggronor, tjub, etc have it. But I’m surprised not more people have it - although there’s definitely a certain level of awe required for the medal that’s awarded for getting into the main CDO showcase. Something to work toward and strive for I suppose!

My favourite quote has to be from Dhark: “This  great army needs some paint to be the perfect whoreship to Hashut!”

I gotta tell you guys… all the collecting and converting certainly makes it feel like that

NIcodemus
I thought about this topic some time ago but I got no good answer for myself and forgot asking anyone else! :o

... and I also would like to reach this aim too! :cheers

What is the demand for an army part to become a part of the "Army Showcase"? Is it the size, the quality of painting or conversion work?

I don't know but I'm sure anyone out here in the depth of CDO will know the answer! ;)

Looking at the other pieces in the CDO showcase the members who have stuff in there seem like exemplary "Chaos Dwarf" army pieces. They've got a mix of originals and conversions, excellent basing, high standard of painting and in a number or cases 'something extra'... hard to put your finger on it exactly, but they are the kinds of things that stand out and we should want in our showcase.

Can the CDO showcase grow indefinitely? Seems like it's better served with a select series of models from across the range to serve as top-quality examples to others.  Still doesn't mean it isn't something to work toward... although that medal would be fantastic, if I can approach that level of skill with painting, etc. I'll be further ahead than if the bar was set low!

P.S. I've finally bit the bullet and am working on my NMM painting skills. I've tried numerous times in the past and it's always turned out awful.  I've had a little luck with 3-dimensional armour and things like that, but flat surfaces seem more unforgiving... but I'm determined to paint up Gharzakk Gold Greed's unit largely in this style.  It's going to be a painful ride.

P.P.S.

Update: I'm now the proud owner of a 3rd Hellcannon. :o:o :D My last one was missing a few of the extra spikey bits, etc. Instead of just sending the missing piece I got a free Hellcannon. Oh my...

Nicodemus:

I made reference in the Ideas and Advice section to having expanded a couple of my units of Warriors. I decided to make them a good size… 7x6 (42 Warriors total), wihch I can always rotate around and remove the rear rank to make 6x5 or 6x6, etc. I’ve also committed myself to expanding my Dawi slave unit to 49 Warriors (7x7). Here’s the previews:

The above unit filler will eventually be a “Forge-born Taurus”, but he still needs conversion work - see WOH #5, p76 and the article by Grimstone Fire. I don’t plan to have the wings be articulated though ;) The second unit of 42 Warriors will have a bigger theme role and I’m scrapping one of my unit fillers I didn’t like for a secret project. And by secret I mean it’s something that may not work so I won’t embarass myself by saying what the plan is

I’m still waiting on some bases and more Dwarf Slayers to finish off the Dawi slaves. They will be summarily shorn and shackled soon after arriving ;) Because I don’t think Imperious Gharzakk Goldgreed would lower himself to fight in a battle while he still has slaves around him, and he certainly wouldn’t stand near the Dawi filth even to fight anyway… I decided that I effectively needed a proper Dawi Slave Champion to go along with the musician (which I still hate) and the standard bearer. Here’s what I’m trying to order from Freebooter Miniatures.

So I’ve been trying my hand at NMM (for gold). Here’s my attempt

Comments and feedback? Does it look OK. Passable at least?? Sheesh, in the above pic it doesn’t look like I did any blending at all… not true!!

I’m going to stick with painting for now, but I’m already thinking about my next two units or Warriors…

The first (well, 11th unit of warriors: Undead Dawi Zharr with a Chaos Dwarf Necromancer unit filler. I’ll probably try and make these completely from HeroQuest Skeletons and Zombies. Not a lot of variety, but it’ll be fun and the proportions are about right once they’re shortened.

The second plan (12th unit): Thugman’s Soul Drinkers. Here’s the very start of it. I’ve got big plans for this one too, but we’ll see how much of what’s in my brain will make its way into reality. For sure there’s going to be at least one model that will have to be censored here on CDO

Werner Klocke’s other dwarf will also be in this unit:

… although I haven’t decided if he will be Thugman himself, once converted, or is another model will fit the bill.

By the way, this excerpt of text was taken from WOH (#3, p32 if you want to know):

"Army Showcase Medal: This medal is awarded to those that have exceptional

painted armies, this is the domain of Xander and it is at his discretion.

Army Showcase armies should be great examplesthe

Nazhur:

I think your painting skill with NMM looks very good. and propably it looks better even live. Also your untis with there untisfeeler looks great. Just keep it up. I will realy look forward to when you get more done

tjub:

The NMM looks good, better than my attempts… :stuck_out_tongue:

And regarding the Showcase medal, if you pull this project thru. Ill guarantee youll have a medal!

zsoulless:

I have to agree your NMM is rather Nice… You have some skills with a brush… Though I was kinda put off by the lack of attention shown to your Lava =P

I let my 40k Orks get about this big Before I finally painted them… I remember how daunting it was to get started…
But You have some amazing conversions In your Here and Like many others I cant wait to see them painted…

zsoulless
;P LOL.. yeah, WIP. That lava only had the first 3 colours applied. At least 4 more to go ;)

Kered:

Wow I only just noticed the lave I was too busy looking at the pretty base.

Nicodemus:

Preview of brass etched shield ‘transfers’ and other bits.

Details can be found here… but it’s a WIP

dedwrekka:

NMM isn’t bad.

I found a good website/guide for doing NMM gold

http://www.one-ring.co.uk/phpBB2/kb.php?mode=article&k=175

I also find that a little Gryphonne Sepia GW wash works great with softening the transitions.

Obsidian:

The brass etchings looks great! Are you looking on making sets for sale perhaps?

Nicodemus:

Here’s the images from my GH XII entry:

That last model is tough to take a good picture of because there’s a lot of movement going on with the Tzeentch Flamer arms.

~N

Bassman:

Great sculpts and converting.

Just a little bit “overdone” to be simple troopers like they are suppose to be.

They could work better if they were characters.

Said this great entries in GH

The original plan was that these models would be the front rank of a unit of flamethrowers (although I now prefer the name "Burninators").

------------------------

Instead of following up this post I'm just editing to append some updates.

First, I'm working on using up some of the BFSP Slayers...

1. Another Arcane Engineer to pilot some vehicles

2. Dawi Slave-mutt (still in progress, and needs more GS on spots like his fingers)

Secondly, Gharzakk Goldgreed's unit is now up to 49 Dawi Slaves. Here's some examples, some have had a little more work done to them than others...

in a few cases all that was needed was to trim the mohawk and stick a few chains on their arm bands to signify their slave status.

Yeah, the above guy's back turned out poorly, but he's as bad as it got. I'll just de-emphasize some of that with careful painting later.

---------------

Sneaking in one more update instead of posting a consecutive time. I don't care about # of posts :P

Re-branding the Black Orcs as Dawi Zharr slaves... as they should be!! Brass etchings for the win!

The Doombull mount unit filler.

-------

One last update to this post - this updating has been going on a few days now ;)
Only 'little' thing would be ... wings - the look slightly to small - and would probably never carry such a bull - but who cares .. ? - it's fantasy

clam
Clam, I agreed with what you said about the Great Taurus' wings being too small at the time, but didn't get back to addressing it until today... now aren't you glad I didn't paint it yet ;) :P

I'm not confident enough yet to sculpt my own wings so I went with the standard LOTR Balrog wings from GW, even though they're a bit reptilian looking they still work I think.

My plans for the Black Orc standard bearer have also come together finally.. Bwahahaha!!! :D   :D   :hat off

Daemon_Smith:

Love the Minotaur carrying the CD! That’s a really nice touch! Is the large round base the final stage of the palanquin, or are you adding to it/changing it?

Like the banner bearer too, that’s so Dawi Zharr!

vulcanologist:

Hi nicodemus great looking army you’re building there, some awesome conversions and green stuff work… Very inspiring!

Obsidian:

The more I see them the more I really dig the brass etchings! The hat on the Battle for Skullpass Slayer is from the Empire Wizard kit right? Works out very nice.
