[Archive] Red skin, white ice, black metal

Sherlocko:

Well, if Jake can start a plog without adding pictures to the first post so can I.

At the moment I am kind of waiting for all stuff to arrive. So far I had to order a whole bunch of paints since I don´t want these to look anything to the Chaos Dwarf army I retired 2 years ago.

The idea so far is to mix alot of dwarfs but as a mainstay in my first unit(s) I will use the AoW slayers with added shields and the occasional chain and shoulder guard. Of course, the idea is that my dwarfs will have vibrant red skin.

For the machines I have ordered a couple of 40k ork vehicle to make some cool platforms in the style I am after. I think it will work but will probably need some heavy cutting…

And yesterday I finally found the tutorial I so desperately needed which told how to be able to make the ICE bases of my dreams, since when I paint it usually ends up way to dark so I would need to get really bright bases to clash with the dark models and the fire of Hashut!

Will probably post some WIPs when something arrive.

Sherlocko:

Will try and see what happens. Need to get my static grass home before I can really try it out. But I think it´ll work, somehow.

Kera foehunter:

Ok Sweetie

I like the Red skin idea !!!

Here would be a cool idea since your using the aow berserks ( Sexy)

this would go with the ice and the aow berserk and cool tattoos

Just a thought ?? you can add the shield to his back

Sherlocko:

Thanks Kera! When I´m getting a little bit more comfortable with painting stunties(again) I might have a go at some tattoos. Oh, I just need the guts.

Anyway, while waiting for my paints to arrive I painted up a mockup with some other colours, just to get an idea on how it can turn out. The base is not done, it´s just bright to get the feeling of how it might be.

Jake:

Seems like a good start, but I’m thinking you should go for an even darker red.

This is going to be interesting to follow - very intrigued by the ice bases.

Kera foehunter:

Good skin tones !!

Tattoo : just get a .05 acid free marker they come in red blue and black

most art stores have them…

Sweetie !!! you have the guts , anyone that uses Dwarf as chaos dwarf stand above others

Kera Waits to see more

Grimstonefire:

I would avoid using the same colour for the beard and the fur on the boots.

If you can find a load somewhere I’m sure the chaos knight shoulder pads would look awesome on AoW slayers.  Might need trimming down a little though.

The base looks interesting, but I’d add some snow powder to realy emphasise the theme.

@Kera

That picture is from Conan the Barbarian isn’t it?

Sherlocko:

Will consider the bit about same colour for fur and beard. But…I like that tone. :frowning: Ah, well, will try something out.

Anyways, since I am still waiting for my paints I started assembling a few dwarves. After the first one was done I realised that I should probably leave the shields off until I have painted the rest of the model.

Oh, and while strolling through my bitz boxes I found this rarity. Due to scale creeep since 1983 this one might actually pass as a dwarf I think!

NoisyAssassin:

Hey Sherlocko, good to see you here!

AoW dwarves for the win! (and the cheaper!)

Are you planning on adding beards to the ones with warrior helmets? They look kind of out of place as is. I’ve seen a few tutorials on greenstuffing beards bouncing around here, or I found out that it’s pretty darn easy to remove the head from the beard on the AoW models, then insert the helmet into the blank space.

Oh, and that skin tone looks familiar…

Sherlocko:

I have been thinking about adding beard but probably won´t. These are after all the bad assed dwarfs who don´t care that you should keep your beard.

And did I steal your skin tone? Didn´t notice, but got my paints yesterday so maybe I´ll try to paint something using the real planned tones later on.

NoisyAssassin:

No, the skin just looks very much like the skin for your creepy Daemon army.

Sherlocko:

Ah, okay. Well, it ain´t the same. The skin on that army is regular flesh colour which is stained with red. Now, this time, it will be red-red.

And not even sure if this constitutes as an update. I was going to say that I´m a slow builder. But I´m probably just lazy. But here is where I am right now…so a little progress at least.

Da Crusha:

looking pretty cool. why are you going with 25mm round bases?

Sherlocko:

Just temporarily. The ice bases will be made separately so when all is done I will attach them to the finished bases.

Sherlocko:

Extremly early WIP of my war machines. Hopefully the iron demon to the right.

Sherlocko:

The weapon part for my war machines. I plan to have them magnetized so I can change. Please, help me confirm that it is obvious which one is which.

Ghrask Dragh:

Woooohoooo, what a cool idea, love that dude sitting there… he doesn’t look like somebody to mess with :hat off

Fruthduf:

Hi Sherlocko

First off I wanna say that all your mini’s look great so far!!

Secondly I was wondering if you had the link to the Ice Base Tutorial you mentioned?

I am about to start a CD army and would love to see the tutorial to see if I wanna head in that direction!!

Karring:

Thorgrim on a Tank? This is madness!

Sherlocko:

Thanks!

@Fruthduf: It´s a bit down on this page: http://privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?92565-Lava-Trolls-Concept-WIP/page7 Haven´t tried it out yet, but I will soon hopefully.

@Karring: Oh yeah, even the Dwarf King is joining the winning team. :cheers
