Wow, thanks for all the awesome replies guys! Real life has been harsh too me
Tjub - thanks for the welcome, it really means alot to me!
Fuggit Khan and Sticklander - regarding them not Boeing bighats, its mostly because i feel i cant compete with the awesome miniatures rozmax make - and the mask/helmets i make is a little nod to the old CD range… And Can still blend with FW’s range i feel…
Im kinda stuck with the next two blunders poses - do you guys have any ideas, based on the two i already have made
Chico - thanks man! I plan on sending these to a caster when i have enough models to fill a mold - that means at least 4 different blunders and some characters… Its lovely you would like to buy some - i will let you know when they are ready for casting!
On a more sculpting based note, i have done some detail work to blunder nr 1 and 2, and they are nearing completion (nr 1 more than 2, though)
First, some pictures of nr 1’s back side, which have received an improvement, and isnt so flat and boring anymore:
Im still debating with myself about adding a little pouch or some ammo to his belt, but i dont know - what do you guys think?
nr 2 recieved some details to his gun, and only needs some rivets and the like now:
Lastly, i want to show you the progress on the next two blunders - though i havent quite figured the poses out yet
The rivets and bolts on the armor is such a small thing - but it gives the model a ton of more detail!
I think it would look great with a small pouch on he’s back, for gunpowder and bullets. Again it’s a small thing, but it’ll add some realism to the mini (which I like). But if you want you’re model to look really old school don’t give him a pouch - the old models didn’t do much in such “extra” stuff.
I like stuff like knives, pouches, canteens and such because every soldier need a “belt” with essential utilities. Always have and always will.
Bloodbeard - I completly agree with you on rivets and bolts! They are a pain in the backside to make, but they add a LOT to the models… I like the small pouches and little tidbits too, so i think i will add some of that to him, and then get him ready for casting…
I have asked in another thread on this board, but i will try here as well - Is it really true that the hobgoblin market is really bad? As far as i have found out, the only options is goblin/skaven conversion or the old metal ones… If this is true, would people be interested in me making some? And if so, how should i outfit them? I really have no idea, so all ideas are welcome
I think the most popular equipped Hobbos are with Bows and Wolfboys/Khan’s. They would without a doubt go down well with the find folks on CDO. But if you make every option I’m sure no one will mind. But be careful of GW IP rights if you plan to sell.
How different from GW’s should they be, to avoid their wrath? Is there a guideline or something? There must be something, since russian alternative and titanwargames can function without drawing to much attention…
If you label your Hobgoblins as Half-Goblins it may help regarding IP (Just a guess mind), and the biggest problem with CD’s that GW likes to stop any ‘‘Evil Dwarfs’’ using is curly beards and scale armour.
But if you take away curly beards and scale, there is not much chaos dwarf left I hope this endeavor is to small to attract attention, and the models are different enough… And after all, i only plan to cast for my own use, and just sell the excess…
To be honest, it aint the hobgobs im worried about - there are so many types of greenskins, so they cant copyright them all - and they didnt invent them in the first place… Evil dwarfs with curly beards and scale armour though…
But im not to worried to be honest… And i wont let it take to much of my attention - i will focus on enjoying sculpting the miniatures i like…
Here is a quick sketch of the pose on the next two dwarfs - i will have some work to do, to differentiate the aiming one, but i think its manageable…
Don’t worry about intelectual property disputes over som hobgoblins. If you actually want to sell them, just call them Steppe Gnomes or Steppe Elves of the Wild or something like that.
The mongolian theme is not something GW can claim. The classic CD on the other hand they pretty much invented.
Equipment for the hobgoblins?
Scale mail on the torso, long robes that allows riding, spiked helmets with fur on the edge, evil evil faces, mongolian style short bows.
I know most people field the hobgoblins with bows, but I’ve had great succes with a 50 strong horde og hobgoblins with two hand weapons.
