[Archive] Size of the potential fanbase?

Revlid:

I think Chaos Dwarfs are in a better position for release than Ogres were, and even than Dark Eldar are.

Loki:

I have taken my CD’s to a few clubs in my local area and in the rest of the country on my varies training courses that my office send me on and the response ahs always been the same , people love them , and they know allot about them and are always eager for a game just to play against them , i think that when GW re do the army we will all be shocked on how many people will play them

Grimstonefire:

It will certainly take some getting used to here on CDO.  In 6 months or so our active users could easily triple.

Which would be fun of course for everyone I’m sure, but it will mean big work for the staff!

Not something we have to worry about yet though.

Willmark:

I’m thinking if that were the case it would be a nice problem to have. I still remain unconvinced.

Groznit Goregut:

I have only actually seen one person play a Chaos Dwarf army in real life. I’ve heard that there is one lady nearby who owns something like 10K Chaos Dwarfs, but I have never seen her. The one person playing CD’s was using proxies from BfSP and borrowing my greenskins.

Still, I don’t think that current play level is a good example. I think comparing them to OK is a good idea. They were a new army that came out with no fan base. So, I think that’s a reasonable army to compare it to.

I think a new CD army would be reliant on two things. How do the models look and how powerful the army is?

Good looking models could make or break the new army. We all have heard that they would never make them Big Hats again and that they would look like they came out of a Trent Reznor fan club. If they were done right, people would be sucked in.

How powerful is the army? How many of you guys know teenagers that are always switching what army they play? What is the most popular army of the quarter? That’s who they want to play. One of my friend’s son has been switching armies ever since I have known him. OH, he wanted skaven at first. He never finished that army. Oh, High Elves were the best with the elites and magic and ASF. Well, his HE army is getting traded for the new Lizard Man army. It’s the latest thing and is “oh so cool”. You can bet that Demons of Chaos, Dark Elves, and Vampire Counts are selling well these days…because they are the power armies. If GW made Chaos Dwarfs an overpowered army, you would definately see sales improve. There are a lot of people that don’t really care too much about the army, as long as it wins games.

Grimstonefire:

I doubt there is much that could be that overpowered in a CD list actually.

VC it’s the vampires and blood knights (imo)

DoC it’s the overall special rules of basic units and the insanely powerful greater daemons.

DE it’s the shades, sorceress and CoK in my experience :frowning:

In the CD list most of the units will probably be similar in power to the Dwarf equivalent.  The characters are not uber combat monsters, or awesome spell casters.   The overall army rules could potentially be an issue, but I think the main possibility would be the combined effect of all the daemonic warmachines.  The ultimate gunline.  The other possibilty could be an unusual style of game play based on advance deployment, with elite and reliable units this could be hard.

Swissdictator:

One comment I hear a lot is “If CD returned, I think I’d buy them”

Even if only 1/4 of the people I hear say that would buy them, I think we’d still have a significant amount of players before adding in the Band Wagon Bunch.

I think we’d have a level of interest equivalent to Brets or Dwarfs, and more then Tomb Kings or (on the 40k side) Dark Eldar would have.

Tarrakk Blackhand:

I would agree that the ammount of sales for CD’s would increase if done correctly. I’ve sold a few BFSP sets at my store just from showing people what can be done just by converting them on this site.

I think it’s long over due and if they look like the Hellcannon Crew, we’d be in for something wonderful!

Kera foehunter:

I hope it would triple , here on the cdo !! So that you staff can have some work !!

lol

Kera

BilboBaggins:

Yes, release a Chaos Dwarf book and we tell all the new players to come here to learn.

Hrothgar Goldgreed:

I think there are masses of people just lurking the CDO, like I do. One simple reason for that: there really is brilliant stuff on here (need an example? Snotling). I remember that when Chaos Dwarfs were being discussed over at Bugman’s Brewery, there were quite a few Dwarfs players that would like seeing a return of the CDs, most not even registered on this site.

I think the fanbase is much bigger than just CDO and the other forum. And even if it would be small; hey, if only 50% of the guys here would buy a newly released CD range … that’s a LOT of profit. I think many people only buy parts of a newly released range because there isn’t really a need to replace the old figures - none of that with CDs.

Hey, GW took the risk with Ogres as well, right? And there wasn’t even a fanbase for them at that time yet!

Tarrakk Blackhand:

I wonder how much profit GW gets from us guys buying other models to make CD’s?

wallacer:

It has been so long since CD had any support that from most people’s POV they will actually be a new army. So they should have the wow factor (hopefully).

If the CD book is done to the standard as the regular Dwarf book I would think they’d sell pretty well. The figures should sell well too if they look similar to the Hell Cannon crew.

Kera foehunter:

yea we get a few of those bugman guys!! but alot went back

i guess i need to open a Bar here!!

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

BilboBaggins:

I was thinking Burgers and Fries, Fish and Chips, Jalepeno Poppers.

Tarrakk Blackhand:

Make it a Tiki bar. I can mix the drinks!

Maybe we can invite GW figure designers and get them drinkin’ and thinkin’ about making us some figures!

Kera foehunter:

you got the job Mr t !!! you probly make some wicked drinks
