Ronshank:

I was introduced to warhammer though Mordhiem but thanks to looking for Chaos Dwarf models I have stumbled onto Blood bowl. Are there any players here, whats it like to play a game?

Also so far I’m really into the skirmishes (a good way to play with armies that your still working on). I love the idea of adding fluff to the actual warhammer battle with boons rewarded for wins usally an extra points, some item or a change in terrian. Plus despite what it looks like (I keep forgetting to log out) I don’t have too much time for games so the short ones do me over until I can arrange a big game.

So I suppose my question is one, are there other short battle players here? And is Blood bowl any good.

cornixt:

Blood Bowl is great. Not played under the most recent rules, but they have been playtested 10 times more than any other GW game

grunts:

Blood Bowl is a great game, good times. But I do seem to remember the models costing alot…more than warhammer, I should say.

wallacer:

I play Mordheim as often as possible. Great game.

Hammerhand:

I found that BB was great, when I played it with a guy who knew how to play. I bought it and tried to show my brother but couldn’t remember and the rulebook doesn’t really help! So, my copy is gathering dust in the attic!

Necromunda is great so I assume Mordheim is just as good.

I've never tried Necromunda. There just aren't that many sci-fi players at my club.
If it is on a par with Mordheim then it would sure be worth a go. I guess the only downside is that unlike Mordheim you actually need to buy special figures to play Necromunda.

Malificant:

im more a fan of necromunda than mordheim-mordheim gets silly quickly with how fast characters advance. i love inquisitor, and am probably going to start a BFG necron fleet.

wallacer:

Battlefleet Gothic is a fun game too (so long as you’re able to avoid playing the annoyingly manoeuvrable Eldar).

Not really, I made an orlock gang from Imperial guard models and also converted a goliath 'biker' gang from plastic marauders a while back. If you haven't tried it, you've GOT to have a go. The rules are a free download on the specialist games website, and you can either use ebay or convert your own gang for the figures! (you only really need 8 to start with) I use the cities of death terrain, it's perfect. Some of your steam-punk terrain would be good also! Seriously, it's really good.

Khan!:

I agree with Hammerhand, Necromunda is awesome! It’s the best game GW ever did, in my opinion. I am fortunate enough to have most of the old gang models, but converting a gang shouldn’t be too much trouble for conversion enthusiasts like CDO members!

Mordheim is good too, although I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as Necromunda. When I played Mordheim a lot I found that games were much more one-sided, ie whoever charges wins, particularly if they have a gribbly monster. Also I found that games tended to be a process of running into combat and then rolling dice until someone won. Necromunda on the other hand was much more dynamic in my experience - manuevering and use of cover and such was much more important, and the games moved around the board rather than just ending in a scrum in the middle.

Blood Bowl is great too! I wish I had gotten an opportunity to play Gorkamorka as well… I missed out on that one and I will be eternally disappointed.

wallacer:

I do have the rules. I just never bothered to read them as nobody at my club plays it.

What is the best gang to choose if all you have is Imperial Guard figures to represent them?

Malificant:

id say van-saar or delaque.

Ronshank:

Nice to know there are other spin-off players

Depends on the playing style of the people you play with. One of my friends likes to charge into battle another one likes to hide elves in bluidings and pick off your players. The scenerios themselves add to the strategy too. There’s usally 3 of us playing when I play I’m a mix of the two and simply adding the extra comepetition can make things alot more interesting (I tend to play Sisters of Sigmar and had much fun with the whips until someone found new rules on them :~) We all get pretty competatitive

with a name like Gorkamorka I can’t help but think I missed out on a good thing.

Blood bowl looks good. I’ve been reading the on-line rules. It’s still hard to picture in my head though, I’m pretty intregued. It has interesting fluff. On another note bluiding a CD army from the blood bowl minitures would have to be a pricey way of doing things

Willmark:

Same here loved to read about GORKAMORKA but never played it. I imagine it would become repetative after a while…,

Also have Bloodbowl but never played it…

torn:

gorka morka was amazing!!! i have the rulebooks somewhere but none of the models or things anymore. it was pretty much based around necromunda, as far as in game rules were concerned, with the inclusion of vehicles, and then the post game sequences were a lot more orky. it is the one game i wished they had made a bigger deal of.

and as far as necromunda goes its just amazing. never get a chance to play it anymore but i still have a few gangs lying around - sold quite a few on ebay recently for space reasons. Have had some amazing shoot outs and its great to see your gang develop. the only problem is in a small gaming group one gang can easily become a lot better than the others in a short space of time. gorka morka had the same problem.

blood bowl is pretty cool, been playing that since the version wit the polystyrene pitch, which is better if you run a passing game is the squares are smaller which means you can pass further without penalty :stuck_out_tongue: got some teams lying around somewhere. Its pretty easy to pick up and play ive shown a few people who have never played a miniatures game before how to play blood bowl in a few hours.

not much of a fan of the other games never liked BFG or epic, mordhiem is ok but its no necromunda, and ive actually never tried inquisitor, although i have no interest in that part of 40k (inquisition and the likes).

Malificant:

i have a copy of gorka morka, and even made a (warning, potentially illegal) photocopy of the whole damned thing in case something happened to it. with the new orcs due in jan, the vehicles may be the thing to reunite this game with some new players.

Hammerhand:

In a fit of nostalgia, I bought all the gangs for necromunda off ebay, they are quite common. I had every intention to paint them all up, but only got as far as the goliaths!

You didn't miss much Khan, it was essentially Necromunda.Just with vehicles and alot less cover...and orcs, orcs, humans pretending to be orcs, orcs, mutants, and orcs. Don't get me wrong, it was still pretty good. Just paled in comparison to Necromunda (which was a great game).

Mordheim is ok, Blood Bowl is the best game in the world for about a week and then it goes back in the closet for a year. Never tried BFG or MoW though

Oops, major faux pas. Right...Orks.
