[Archive] The Chaos Dwarf Wiki Project

cornixt:

Looking good!

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Borador:

Added an article to the sorcerors convertion page. Chaos Dwarf Sorcerer Conversions

Ancient History:

I think the wiki needs a bit of help. Anybody want to pitch in?

Lord Aldades:

Can`t create an account, but maybe one of the mods on the wiki can add this to the Chaos dwarf models by other manufacturers page

The Home of Halflings.

Ancient History:

Things to add to the Wiki:

Wulfrik (Warhammer Fantasy novel, features Lammasu, Chaos Dwarf Sorcerer, etc., note on Greenskin slave patois)

Dreadfleet (Chaos Dwarf ship & character; also cross-link to Man o’ War)

Storm of Magic references to Lammasu and Taurus as well more Tamurkhan info.

Possibly update the moedls section as well with the Finecast taurus and lammasu for 8th edition and also images of all of the FW models.

Thommy H:

The Storm of Magic stuff is already in there.

Nah, that page is too terse. The existing page does little more than say those two models have rules in the book.  There's interesting stuff in the fluff for both the GT and Lammasu that colours where these monsters fit into the Chaos Dwarf background.  It really needs a mention.

edit... Or if it is mentioned some place, it needs a better citation.

Thommy H:

Look at the actual pages for the Lammasu and the Great Taurus. Both contain updated background information from Storm of Magic.

Ancient History:

I’d put a cover of Storm of Magic up, but the file upload function is broken again.

Thommy, I shouldn't have to just know where the information comes from.  So I'll repeat my sentiment from my above post - it needs (better) citation.

Not only that, some of that material is straight out of SoM, word-for-word. It's bad form not to include citations, but it's also GW IP appearing on our site without credit and seemingly being passed off as our own interpretation of the background.

I hasten to add that ages ago I had made some entries and changes to the wiki only to discover that 1) my stuff was removed or changed by someone else who didn't like it I guess, which ended up being wasted effort on my part, and 2) the dangling carrot of getting a medal is a great touch, except that there's no goal post and all I ever heard was that I didn't contribute enough to have earned one.  Two negative experiences and I was done with 'helping out' with the wiki.

Thommy H:

It’s got nothing to do with me - I got this medal years ago, and haven’t had time to do any work on the Wiki since, like, 2008 or something. I just happened to have seen that some of the information from SoM had been put up there a while ago and thought I’d point it out since you mentioned it. It’s not my work.

If you don’t like the way the Wiki is run, make it better: that’s how a Wiki works. If someone deletes something you wrote, take it to the discussion page and find out why. If it was done by some idiot for no reason, revert it back yourself.

For the record though, the medal is for people who’ve written or revised quite a number of articles. It was easier to get when a lot of major work was going on a few years ago. I imagine if you wanted to take a hand in a major revamp and bring the Wiki back up to date, with proper citations and everything, an Admin would recognise your contributions.

Ancient History:

Hell, I would bug them to give you a medal. I just haven’t had the time to do a proper job of it.

Nicodemus:

My complaints weren’t directed at you Thommy… I was pointing out that some of the wiki is in need of being fixed. I’ve put in an effort elsewhere with CDO, but I took an “I can’t be bothered” attitude with the wiki after putting in some real effort early on (like 2009 I think). At that time it felt like others were taking ownership of it and I was just getting in their way, even though that’s not how it’s supposed to work I wasn’t going to get into a pissing contest. With new things happening in the CD hobby scene though, I guess there’s room for someone to make these larger continutions again.

cornixt:

I don’t remember there being any edit wars on the wiki. I vaguely recall you asking for a medal, you just needed a bit more work under your belt since you hadn’t done much when you asked. According to the records, you did the Warhammer Quest page (no one has touched it since) and uploaded a few images of Hobgoblins. What other user names did you use?

Anyway, we need to add a bit more stuff on the new models and rules now, but unfortunately the image upload is broken for me and I can’t figure out what is wrong (Pyro Stick seems to have no issue, not sure why mine doesn’t work).

Nicodemus:

cornixt
Oh, zing!

With regards to Ancient History's problems, he's quite right. The image upload isn't working.

After selecting a new file to upload and clicking the "Upload file" button, it goes to an error message wiki page with:
Internal Error
Could not copy file "/tmp/phpMWk1pW" to "/home/chaos/public_html/wiki/images/c/cd/SoM-cover_sm.jpg".

I even tried to fiddle a little and upload the file directly into the wiki/images/c/cd directory, in which case the error message changes to one saying that it can't copy the file into wiki/images/archive/c/cd/***what ever date/time stamp*** (beacuse I can't remember exactly what it was)

Looks like it may be permissions as a first guess, or else something has changed with how the code is executing on the server?? I don't have sufficient access to see any real details about CDO so I can't see enough to be of any real use in tracking down the problem, so somebody else will need to step in here.

Update
Here's a more descriptive error:

Warning: mkdir() [function.mkdir]: Permission denied in /home/chaos/public_html/wiki/includes/GlobalFunctions.php on line 1626

Warning: move_uploaded_file(/home/chaos/public_html/wiki/images/temp/9/91/20111026173619!Finecast_Great_Taurus.JPG) [function.move-uploaded-file]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/chaos/public_html/wiki/includes/SpecialUpload.php on line 551

Warning: move_uploaded_file()

Nicodemus:

… sorry for the double post.

Image uploads are now working. have at 'er.

Ancient History:

Okay, I’ve posted some stuff in [[Wiki Plans]] for whatever wonder, intrepid soul wants to earn a medal, these are my suggestions of places to start. Obviously, there’s a lot more than that which can still be done. I’m wondering if we might not want to pitch a Wiki Initiative to the general community, with slaves for good effort, that sort of thing.

Xander:

My name is Xander, and I approve this message.

Pyro Stick:

(Pyro Stick seems to have no issue, not sure why mine doesn't work).
