[Archive] The Fimir of Albion - out of the mist

Bloodbeard:

Truly great work.

I’ve been in love with the fimir minis since I played Hero Quest as a boy. When Warhammer Forge released some fimirs I was exicted - but the is really cool.

The Albion twist is really cool. The tattoos, the buggy bases all make them very mystical - and they have been gone for a long time.

What rules will you be using for gaming?

Mr Saturday:

Thanks very much Bloodbeard. I really wanted to infuse the army with the a Celtic vibe, as well as drawing from movies like the dark crystal for colour palette and basing themes.

I’m primarily building the army for warhammer 8th edition, but I have an eye to 3rd edition too. Any fantasy skirmish games I might play will be drawing from this army too, so I need a good few interesting characters. To that end, I’ve just finished a low level wizard character, I’ll have pics of him shortly.

Mr Saturday:

After finishing the first marlworm I thought I’d complete one of the characters for the army, Avagdu. He’s been assembled for some while, and it was past time he got some paint. In gaming terms he’ll operate as a low level wizard, and as a character I thought those big shoulder pads needed something more, so a bit of Celtic style freehand was in order. I added the name of the meargh who controls Avagdu in ogham to the back of the stone. Yeah? Too much you say? No way I reply.

Now, there’s a pile of tentacles that need some red wash…

Give us a “U”, Give us a “P”, Give us a “D”, Give us a “A”, Give us a “T”, Give us a “E”…

Update, Update! Update…

whoooo: UPDATE!!!

Sorry, I got carried away. But seriously, I love the model. Have you got WIP shots? is it a standard model or does it have oodles of greenstuff on it?

clam:

Awesome work and what a characterful miniature he is.

Skink:

I read the fluff about Avagdu on your blog ages ago, and now I can see him painted and ready 2 battle :). Lovely!!!

And when you say “red wash on tentacles” you mean Crom right? If the answer is yes I might faint.

Mr Saturday:

Cheers folks! He’s a weird little fella, but makes a great fimir character. @Bolg, the only conversion work done to him is the addition of a tail, apart from that he’s right out of the blister. Here’e a wip:

@Skink: Bingo. Crom is about 60% done. I’m using the same base colour scheme on all the worm beasts as I used on the marlwyrm. His base work is gonna take a fair old while though.

Mr Saturday:

After sitting on my painting desk for some time awaiting his turn, Crom is finally done. He will eventually have a larger base he sits into so he can be used as either a gorebeast chariot or a hellcannon.

I used the same colour scheme on Crom as I used on the marlwyrm. I started using GW bloodletter glaze, recently, starting with this guy. Great stuff. If the other GW glazes are as good I’ll be picking them up. I found a slightly better glue to use for drool too, a super cheap glue called Capitol, from the ‘just what you need’ range. Faster drying and more elastic than UHU, it even allowed me to suspend a skull hanging from several of Crom’s tentacles.

Next up, more marlwyrm riders and some war dogs.

Skink:

Argh. This. Is. Mind. Blowing.

Seriously, I don’t know what I like best in this army, everything is amazing!!! Can’t wait to see the three Grubs “crew” and the base for Crom/Hellcannon

The Odor:

This is just unbeliveably awesome…

Like it a lot!

Mr Saturday:

Thanks everyone, most kind! His little gribbly ‘crew’ should be fun to do.

standard question: a wip shot if its a conversion
Nope, he’s pretty much straight up, though I did add a few tentacles, mostly to fill out gaps on the original model.

Soulassassin:

Holy hell, that worm is gross! In the most positive way off course :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Looking great as always!

Mr Saturday

Mr Saturday:

Cheers Skink. Crikey, Crom was waiting a while for a lick of paint…

Mr Saturday
...It wasn't the only one trust me. Speaking of Fimir deities, have you got any plans for Balor, Lisaart or Kroll??? Balor would be awesome as a Daemon Prince, don't know what the other two could be though.

Mr Saturday:

Oh yes indeedy. I’m only getting started.

I have the parts for Balor on my desk. He’s going to be a job of work, but I’m pretty excited about him. If he works out he’ll be the best model I’ve done to date. I just need a couple more bits of armour and some basing bits (burned victim). I have to cast a couple of pieces too.

Kroll is going to be a large model, probably a stand-in for a slaughterbrute, as there’s nothing else that big in the army, bar a chaos mammoth. The base model is still in production, so it’ll be a few more months before that arrives.

As to Lisaart, the serpent God, I have an old Leviathan model that might do the trick with some alteration. A second prince perhaps, though I do have a model penned in for the second prince already, a worm daemon possessed model.
