Bloodbeard:

Where should i go for fimir lore?

Mr Saturday:

There isn’t much. The 3rd edition warhammer rulebook, Warhammer armies for 3rd, the odd reference in other rule books and some articles in white dwarf. By far the best (and unofficial) lore is from Warpstone 25. It’s comprehensive, and the basis for the background for my army. I have a background section here:

Willmark:

This puts Nurgle to shame.

Mr Saturday:

It was all about the greenstuff the last few nights as I worked up the marlwyrm riders. Some gap filling, saddles with assorted paraphernalia, and the riders themselves. The fellow above (the standard bearer) needed a neck, a rebuilt right shoulder and some work where his tail meets his previously orcish bottom. I added a cowl as well, with a bronze broch to the front. This time I’ll paint the bugger before I stick him on the mount.

You can see the musician in the back there. I’ve just started on his neck musculature, which is a little tricky as he’s turning and angling his head. Time for the anatomy books. I better decide is he’s going to be hooded first though, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve spent an hour sculpting muscle only to cover it with a hood, cloak or coif.

Skink:

Well, you could “cheat” with the hood and hide the musculature. It’s going to look great anyway. You are building a unit of 3 or 4 Merlwyrm riders?

Mr Saturday:

That might be a thing that might happen, I’ll see how he looks hooded up.

There will be four eventually, but I’m only fielding three for the upcoming tournament. I’ll add the champion after. I have to convert a Gáe Bulg for him, a barbed spear.

Mr Saturday:

Two more marlwyrms are now complete and awaiting riders. I did rather enjoy painting the tiny version of Crom on the base of the guy on the right. I love adding those little details. They’ve just been given a coat of gloss before the matt is applied. It’s usually when I’m putting the coat of gloss on I spot any little mistakes, and these lads were no exception, so there’s a little touching up to do before the matt goes on. (Then more gloss on the pustules, then moss and grass on the base, then water effects, then drool…) I now have eleven days to paint the two riders and five war hounds and I find I’m looking up dog marking patterns for Celtic mastiffs.

I really must love punishing myself.

I’ll pop up an army shot before the tourney. Of course, I’ve only started with the fimir, but it’ll be great to have finally reached the level where I have a playable army!

Bolg:

Wow, they are stunning. looking forward to the army shot ,and dont forget to make a few pics at the tournament. I hope they have a best painted award as you deserve it.

Mr Saturday:

Cheers Bolg. I’ll take some shots at the tournament for sure. They do have a best painted award, but there are some great painters coming so the competition will be fierce. It’ll be a laugh one way or the other!

Skink:

That is a juicy update!!! Wow! Can you post the armylist you’ll be using? Crom’s gonna be a Hellcannon or Gorebeast chariot?

Mr Saturday:

Surely. It’s in no way a hard list. It’s what I have. The half-dead are generally used as chosen, but they’ll have to fill in as forsaken this time round. Crom is in his gorebeast chariot form here. I still have to build his larger hell cannon base and paint the ‘crew’. Here’s the list:

Yodrin:

Love those Marlwyrms, great work!!

Skink:

Hey I read on your blog that you’re wondering about what to add your army after this unit is done. Go for the Fianna! After all you already based them, it would be a shame not to see Nick Bibby’s models painted at your standard.

Mr Saturday:

I’m kind of itching to do them too actually. And the new Forge World fimir, in fact. Hmm.

Skink:

You could always deploy them as Trolls rather than Ogres. And have a juicy Fianna Mistmor play the role of Throgg. I always liked this model.

Mr Saturday:

He’s a beauty, isn’t he? I plan on two units of large fimir, one of 6 fianna and one of 8 nobles. I’m planning on using fenbeasts as trolls, and I’ve almost got enough fenbeasts, shambling mounds and such for a unit of eight.

Mr Saturday:

Two more marlwyrms join their previously completed brother to bring the unit up to three. The ogre parts I had hoarded were a Godsend, providing the musician’s horn, the mantrap, bags, body parts and other bits and bobs. Scibor’s Celtic shields really did the trick too. For now, the unit is complete, though I will add a fourth wyrm later on, the Gáe Bulg wielding Brodar. I have to locate an appropriate barbed spear head.

On the painting table at the moment are five hounds. The colour scheme is based off Celtic mastiffs, and it does look pretty cool if a little fiddly. I have some base work and detailing left to do, then it’s the army packing headache and we’re off to blood the Fir Domhan at their first tourney as a full army.

Here a couple more images of the completed musician and standard bearer.

Sweetness!!! Amazing work!!

Skink:

The sheer epicness of that unit is too much too bear for my tiny brain… And yet I cannot stop to look at it. They are marvellous! You’ve been pretty quick with them!

Bloodbeard:

I can’t “like” every picture as on facebook. And I don’t really habe the right words.

I’ll just leave you with a spamish "Awesome!"

Awesome!
