Yodrin:
So far, so very god!!!
Kera foehunter:
Good good good to see some of you great work Grims
cape is very well done
Skink:
Can´t get any better mate! And I really want to see what you came up with the past 6 months!
Goltor Lintrepide:
THIS is impressive sire.
Grimstonefire:
All in good time.
To be honest I’ve been focusing a lot more on my WoC.
By the end of this year I will have a large CD army, and infantry aside I want to assemble and paint my 2 Iron Daemons (including the hellbound one above), my magma cannon and bombard. If I can do all that and get my infantry painted it will be a successful year. I’d like to at least have my 3 BC assembled and based as well, but the level of detail I need will make that very difficult.
Xander:
I demand group shots of both your wip CD and WoC armies!
Ghrask Dragh:
Whoa, missed that update, he looks awesome grim’. Great work on the cloak but its the beard im lovin the most.
I also demand those group shots… we wanna see em, pleeeeeeeease
Yodrin:
Looks great! :)Yea, looks great :hashut

A group shot will have to wait for a few months, as unless it’s something I’m wanting feedback on I’m going to try and avoid WIP shots if I can. Also things haven’t really progressed much on the CD painting front, so most of it’s already here anyway.
On the sculpting/building front I have been labouring hard since christmas actually and will soon have a lot of stuff to show (hopefully).
The first of which, being WIP, I’d appreciate some feedback on. Bear in mind that this hellbound magma cannon is to fit in with the maulerfiend iron daemon. So it had to be wierd. I need to sculpt/ acquire some crew for both of them.
Pic is rubbish I know, more of a teaser as I’m lazy. I’ll take better ones at the weekend.
I should point out as well that the CD in the cage is a greenstuff version I recast. Came out very nicely actually.
bigdark:
When you say it is meant to be with a maulerfiend as k’daai - then I think they absolutely jive.
My impulse tells me that I want to see something coming out of that cannon. Maybe green stuff up a troll-puke-bit from the river troll box and paint it like magma?
The vents and cauldrons are great additions. Where do you guys get that lovely white plastic?
Is there a way to widen the front shielding below the cannon? I think it would improve the intimidation factor to broaden the front shield - either rounded to the shape of the model or flat facing barrier.
Good luck! More better pics please!
Grimstonefire:
I have to be very careful messing around with the proportions on this thing. You’ll see why when I load up more pics.
Basically the lava chamber/ cauldron thing is quite large so I had to visually (and weight wise) compensate with the skull thing on the chimney the other side.
The model itself would be visually very top heavy if I had not put the extra teeth thing lower down. It’s just about passable now.
Adding more width may make it unstable visually, especially from the back considering the rear wheel isn’t that wide.
Also, it needs to be seen to be possible for the barrel front wheel thing to pivot (which some clever person thought to make detailed on the inside where nobody would never be able to reach with a brush). So, having rebuilt the whole front, I’d need to pay a lot of attention to whether that could be seen to work still if I were to extend the front part.
Edit. The plastic is a combination of tubes and regular flat plasticard. Which you can get from train modelling shops. The US would have some massive online retailers of this stuff I imagine.
Grimstonefire:
My hellbound magma cannon.
I don’t plan on attaching anything else now, other than some crew (2 on the platform and one on the base). There is still a little bit of work to do here and there tidying up (and adding some flames out of the small daemon mouths under the magma chamber).
Maybe a few more gubbinz bits on the platform. I’ll end up painting it a long time before getting the crew I think.
The pic of it from behind is quite warped, it’s not that bad in reality (just a little bit).
You can probably see looking at these pics what I was talking about earlier with the balancing act visually. The magma chamber thing is bulky and for a while over balanced it. I had the skull face thing on the chimney attached ontop of the cannon (which fit perfectly with minimal work and looked pretty good), but I had to cut it off and stick it on there to balance it out. Also putting the control panel and the hanging slave there to visually make it work. In reality it would be too heavy on that side with all the magma, but I’m sure the daemonsmiths would have figured out a way to make it work…

DAGabriel:
Great…god…Hashut! What an evil contraption!
Really want to see it painted.
Grimstonefire:
Do you think I should go with a dark red for the body of the machine, or paint it black etc and draw attention more towards the magma/ other glowing parts?
Really not sure how to treat the skulls. Whether to paint as ‘general daemonic stuff’ like the hellcannon, or as actual skulls source lit from behind, or just paint them as metal??
On the original model the large flesh area underneath is a lighter colour to draw attention to it. So something to consider, I want to paint all parts like that the same way for consistency.
Edit.
I do have plans for an even stranger machine based on this model. That one will be crazy. I’ll keep that under my hat until I see if it could work first.
Grimbold Blackhammer:
Now that, dwarfs and dwarfettes, is how a conversion is supposed to look! Very, very nice Grimstone!
Match the metal to the rest of your army. Suitable glowing magma draws the eye all on its’ own! The skulls themselves look more decorative than anything so I think you’ll be safe painting them metallic.
Kera foehunter:
At least it not a ass Canon … it need more torment souls attracted to it…
But like all your project grim you put a lot of though in to it.
< high 5>
moses:
wow. two very great conversions.
i like your iron deamon version, but i would use it as a kdaii destroyer ( to be honest, i thought about the same thing to construct one )
on the magma cannon the platform looks a bit out of angle, i think the deamonsmith would make this straight.
moses
Yodrin:
Great conversion right there!!
Grimstonefire:
The platform is a little curved looking at it, I’ll have to try and bend it down a little without breaking anything. I might try heating it a little.
On the destroyer front, I’m going to give the slaughter brute a go I think. I would like to sculpt a proper giant bull at some point, but that’s a massive project that will take ages.
Edit. That worked. A quick fix!
