[Archive] Warhammer and Our World

cornixt:

Please no calling names, or implying lack of education (go back to school). If you want to debate then please use facts to prove your point or disprove the other’s.

Warhammerman:

Jeez guys.  If you wanna do that keep it with personal messages as I am sure know one wants to hear such things.

Khunag:

and the impossibility say that Poland is a Catholic country.
What he meant is that we're not Orthodox, and that our culture is connected with Rome and not Byzantium. And Poland IS a Catholic country. Catholicism is rooted very strongly in Polish culture, it's not about religion, it's about common values with other European countries.

btw. I've seen a map of Kislev somewhere and it's almost a twisted map of Poland. Very unimaginative actually, many names of towns and cities are exactly the same as in modern Poland.

Gar Shadowfame:

i noticed something recently, guys check out the surname of Karl Franz, the Emperror of the Empire, and then look on a map underneath Denmark.

Balseraph:

I also wonder with USA call them selves Americans, if they are just one of the countris on the Americas,,,
Canadians ar Amaricans also ;)
So we can talk to peoples from USA... States-man? Union-man? ;)
Yet I never see Scandinavians taking offense to being compared to Chaos worshiping raiders spreading death and devastation far and wide.
In my experience, they love it :)

Baggronor
Scandinavians were Vikings so comparing them to Norsca should not offend them. The Vikings were barbarians in the sense of "civilized" parts of Europe. While the barbarians were not more than many countrys in This Europe. Returning ... The Vikings are part of Scandinavian culture as part of Slavic are Polish culture.

Khunag
Have you got this map???? Can you put it here? Or, write where I can find it? :) I will look for my "home" on Kislev map ;)
Flames of war has begun.
Take your flames in to the galaxy far far away....This web site is not about fanatics-religious war, or politics.
Currently living here, and Catholics and Orthodox and Protestants and atheists etc etc etc and the impossibility say that Poland is a Catholic country. Poland is a secular country with a pagan roots and with Catholic tradition as many countries in the world
I would like just to add (what I hope will end this unproductive discussion):....
ONLY Vatican is a Catholic Country. All others countries are Secular countries WITH, some, the Catholic or Orthodox (etc) traditions. Of course, if we are talking about Christianity.
In Poland, the Dominant religion(but here are also other religions) is Catholicism from about 1000 years. Prior to that, more than the 1000 years in Poland was different faith, now known as paganism. So, Poland IS a secular country WITH a pagan roots and WITH Catholic tradition (with other traditions from other religions).

If someone wants to discuss the Polish history and religion - PM to me.
This topic is about something completely different.

Balseraph:

I found this map on which Khunag wrote. I do not know who did it but they are names of Polish cities. Some even without the typos.

I wonder if the other Warhammer maps (regions / countries) also are the names of real cities. Someone was looking at other maps?

No, prior to Catholicism Poland didn't technically exist, Polish state was established with baptism.

Here's a bigger and clearer b&w version of the map:

Hashut’s Blessing:

The races all have different inspirations from the real world and most have more than one, then they also have completely unconsidered connections and some things are made just for the races and not based on anything from the real world.

Ultimately, the Warhammer world is shaped in a similar semblance to our own (most likely due to the fact that it can be explained in the same manner as our own, the climate’s being largely the same: Lustria and Amazon are both rainforests, for example), but the races are based elsewhere (the Dwarfs have some Norse bearing, but are often depicted as having a Scottish hierachy and accent).

Kera foehunter:

Canada would be in the realm of chaos !

the Dark elves would be the lower 48states

Border Reiver:

And nobody whose tried to get through our public health care would deny it’s chaos…
