You don’t need lava to burn, you just use the heat from it. The problem with that is that unless it is being constantly reheated then it turns into rock, which is somewhat less than liquid. So unless you can keep piping it around without taking too much heat (which defeats the point) or use it while it is still in the volcano, it’s not going to be much use.
