The Warhammer World most definitely does not have population levels the equivalent of the modern world.
In Sigmar’s Heirs (The WFRP expansion for the empire) it lists the populations of some of the places in the empire, including most of the big cities. Altdorf (the capital of the empire) has just over 100,000 people. Most of the other significant place in the empire have under 100,000. I would guess that the total population of the empire is about the same as England at the end of the middle ages. In other words, about 4 million.

I would argue that Skaven and Greenskins might be an exception, but it is really just a silly debate anyways. Though you do bring very valid points. I haven't seen the WFRP so I hadn't seen that material, I stand corrected.
Do the WFRP books have a lot of fluff in them? It might make them an interesting read! :)
I said 20,000. I base that on the fact that the Warhammer world is essentially a medieval one, the CD only have one city, and that city does not appear to be particularly large.

Are you sure that the CD only have one City??? I cannot believe this!!!
Is this a fact mentioned in the CD background or is it your theory???
WFRP is Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (the roleplaying game based on the Warhammer world). They make a series of books in addition to the main rulebook, such as Sigmar's Heirs (The Empire background book), Children of the Horned Rat (the Skaven background book) etc.
i always thought there where more then just one city
are you sure all these other places are just outposts?
Hazkar
wallacer are these book still in print??

I don't think so. I believe GW shut down the part of the company that made the role playing books just after they released the 40k role playing rules (Dark Heresy).
Wallacer, I’m going to check out WFRP as it sounds like fun and I’ve kinda been itching to do some RPGs.
What books do you recommend so I can run some games: aside from the main rulebook… as in what books are a must. I’m thinking of having my ‘group’ be more of a DoW type group so I can have them travel the world.

Aside from the main rule book the magic book (the name of which I forget) is pretty much a must if you're planning on running a campaign with magic in it. The bestiary is a good book too, although only if you're DMing.
As far as the background books go Sigmar's Heirs is the best of the background books that I have read. It contains info on each of the imperial provinces, their customs, populations etc.
Children of the Horned Rat is good as well if you're interested in Skaven and Tome of Corruption (the Chaos book) looks like an interesting read although I haven't actually done so
