“The Artisans of the Dawi Zharr descend upon their tasks with fervent zeal..”

Monument Hobbies Presents: The 41st Artisan’s Contest on Chaos Dwarfs Online!

This contest has been sponsored by Monument Hobbies! Check out their web store linked here for all the products they have to offer, from paint to pigments, from washes to Wizard’s Butt. Also check out their color brochure for a look at their extensive range of paints and sets. Let’s give them a warm welcome as this is their first time sponsoring one of our contests!

:batg5: Now for the prizes! :batg5:

The gold winner will receive a $25 gift code to Monument Hobbies! Stock up your hobby room to prepare for future contests!

And the silver winner will carry this Maxmini desert halfling rocket team courtesy of @Reaver

Whereas the bronze winner shall receive a glorious badge for their Chaos Dwarfs on-the-line profile. A brand of honor that will doubtlessly earn more than a modicum of respect with the almighty Hashut. (If anyone would like to donate a bronze prize feel free to reach out to @Reaver)

And finally one lucky random draw winner not in top three will ALSO receive a $25 gift code to Monument Hobbies! That’s right, just entering gets you a fair chance at a gold-equivalent prize!

Subject Matter: Warmachines

In the last contest you prepared your troops, now.. arm them with the machines of war that will carry them to victory on the battlefield! This contest is intended for miniature based entries of Chaos Dwarf machines of war. This iteration of the Artisan’s contest will be much like the Golden Hat, aiming to get more painted miniatures to the gaming table, however the focus of the Artisan’s contest will ever be your creativity and unique spin on the theme (in the eyes of our legions of voters of course).

This time around we want you to build, sculpt, kitbash, trash bash, convert, or otherwise create a Chaos Dwarf themed machine of war. Entries for this contest should be painted and ready to be used on the gaming table. Your creation may be something non-traditional in Chaos Dwarf or Hobgoblin themes or your own unique spin on an established concept. Also, since I know many of you are sitting on unpainted plastic kits, you may of course, express your creativity and personal take on the theme with the use of your paintbrush. (read this as: if you want to just enter your painted Helsmiths, please do so)

Warmachines is a broad theme with grey boundaries, especially for the ingenuity and crazed mindscapes of the Chaos Dwarf Daemonsmiths and their servants. You may choose to create something that looks like a machine doing some war activities but does not necessarily rules wise proxy a warmachine as such (say a mechanical proxy for a Blood Bowl bull centaur). Conversely, you may wish to make something that is a stand in for a warmachine as defined by the rules system of your choice but does not look to be made of machinery explicitly (say an asscannon).

Great inspiration can be found in our image gallery for Warmachines and Artillery It’s safe to say anything you see there is well within theme for this contest.

Or you could come up with something else entirely, as long as it’s some kind of equipment, machine, or artillery type doovalacky for your Chaotic Dwarfs on whatever battlefield they are marching toward. This is a very open concept so hopefully folks can pick up and finish a project to get on the table or work on models they’ve been neglecting. There are no quantity restrictions so enter as much or as little as you would like but please abide by the image restrictions for your total entry (4 images max, see below). Let your imagination run wild and be welcome to surprise us all with unique interpretations! After all, that is the spirit of the Artisan’s Contest.

Specifics
Subject: Warmachines
The Due Date: 11:59 PM June 18th, 2026 EST (Eastern Time Zone)

Please read the full rules that apply to the Artisan’s Contests before submitting your entry.

Submission
All entries must be sent to the @GoldenHat account no later than the due date. (Entrants have approximately 11 weeks to complete entries). If for some reason you are having trouble with your submission, contact @Reaver since the @GoldenHat account has limited monitoring. In order to avoid problems, entrants should not wait until the last minute to submit their entries.

How to Enter
Submissions should include up to 4 pictures of your creation.

Upload and send your entry images with this forum’s direct upload function (preferred) in a PM to @GoldenHat (a special user that all Staff have access to). Any images uploaded to the Internet, e.g. with Imgur will need to be inserted in image form into the PM anyway.

If you win:

  • Walk across the backs of the cowed masses you have scorned and pushed aside, in order to take your place at the top in the vaunted Artisan’s Contest Gallery.
  • Receive the Artisan’s Contest medal for your online persona.
  • Win prizes! See above for details.

Once all entries are received a thread will be created for voting and determining the winners!

If there are any general questions it is best post them here so that everyone can benefit from any details or clarifications that may arise. If you have a question on whether or not your specific entry fits. The answer is probably yes, it fits and we’ll let the voters decide your fate. but feel free to reach out to @Reaver if you have further questions.

Should you wish to donate a prize to this or future contests, please PM @Reaver and he will sort it out with you and the Staff. Note that prizes do not need to be exclusively miniatures.

A reminder of the contest roadmap for those looking to prepare in advance!

Good luck everyone!
The CDO Staff and our generous sponsor

Best of luck to those participating and showing off their mighty war machines!
For this one I won’t be participating, still got a lot more HoH infantry to paint before I move onto war machines.
I cannot wait to see what people end up making/showcasing!

I’ve got an idea for this. I don’t NEED any more of these in my army, but it will be a fun thing to try out.

For those in need of some inspiration or in-theme background while you work. Check out Chitz’ Among the Wicked Dawi series and shameless plug for the audiobook version we are working on! Haven’t read that far for the audiobook but I know the industrious creations of the Chaos Dwarfs are well featured in future chapters.

Seeing as I was still working on the bases for my infantry for the last GH contest last night… I have no idea what kind of schedule I’m on, but I’m hoping June 18 is far enough away to get something together! By Hashut’s balls I hope that’s going to be enough time!!

That’s great! It’s a cool project, and I’ve almost finished gathering all the supplies. I already have the right crew. If everything goes smoothly, I’ll be able to start building over Easter.

At the risk of neglect to my other unpainted war machines… I have an idea. Now just to acquire a few more necessary bits and bobs, and figure out the scale, and decide on the design, and chop things up, and put them back together… in unexpected ways.

Alright, time to finish that conversion!
Excited to see what everyone is cooking for this.

Time for the next unit in the AoS army it seems

Making decent progress on my entry and thankfully could push it past the critical will-this-idea-even-work point.
How’s everyone doing?

I have at least a thing ready for painting. What remains to be seen is how many supplemental things can get completed on a scale from one thing to a zodd quantity entry. I’d be happy with ~30% zodding but that’s a high bar to clear.

My work commitments and other personal travel commitments have severely slowed me down over the last couple of weeks. This April is insane for me. I have managed to get some of the construction materials but I don’t expect to have a complete model to start painting until mid-May.

Haven’t touched a kit or a piece of plasticard or anything since this was announced… now I’m gearing up for 8 days out of the country for work, after which I’ll be home for <36h before I fly out of the country again. By the time I’m back it’ll be start of May and on to the next break-neck pace :\

To get a R/Z ×100= >30% you are probably going to need 3 things :joy:

I cant work out if nicodemus and cornixt have very good lives or very sh1t ones!

Plodding along every night do a bit here, a bit there. Hopefully i do something im proud of. Honestly its tough for me to surpass my previous efforts.
