Big Hat Iron Daemon? šŸš‚

These look like the final boss on a Thomas the tank engine game!

For inspiration in ā€œbig hat big buildsā€ I recommend @Bassman ’s work in ā€œbluebeards forgeā€

I see a tendency to use the cannons and other bits from the FW Iron Daemon. I have an STL of that thing, so if I make up a plan for what to do, I think I’ll be able to weld together some kind of daemon possessed contraption of mass distraction

You nailed this list. Good catch on the Skaven cog. The front skewer is from Dark Eldar skiffs.

The main body is from the 40k servohaulers kit… so not free. What was free was my second iron daemon when they shipped me a whole second kit because my first iron daemon FW purchase came with incorrect wheels.

Oh biscuits… Then I gotta find a different base to work from. The servohauler is oop and I can’t readily find an STL.

But the seed has been planted for something unique. Oh it’s a comin’ :smiling_imp:

Wip :see_no_evil: I’m kind of just making it up as I go along. I’m not sure I’ll end up using this at all, but it’s fun to try it out.

Notes are extremely welcome! I’m especially wondering where to put the crew when the whole thing seems so enclosed

Taking a second look at this, I’m thinking it departs too far from the big hat aesthetic. I’ll try another one based on the whirlwind chassis, I think. It’s for the old world after all. None of this overly high tech stuff

Alright so I’ve reiterated the idea, more in line with the juggernaut @Zoddtheimmortal suggested, and it turns out I’m much, much more keen on this version:

Gotta clean up the platform so it doesn’t clip the wheels with the unused axles, but that should be fairly simple.

I gotta find a solution for the cannonade, unless I just go with crew members firing guns off of their platform.

Also some greebles, but not too many! Just enough to sell the idea of a steam engine, but not so many as to forego the simple sort-of oldhammer look. A chimney, maybe some controls and levers, a container for coal? That ought to do it.

I also want a third wheel, but need to find the right fit. A thing that needs look able to go straight through/over low walls - would the front wheel need to be biggest? Back one? Middle? Can’t figure it out.

Oh, and I thought that pipe smoking Brawniac blunderer was just perfect as a lookout up in front :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Cracking on with the Iron Daemon. The process has been long, and I’ve scrapped a lot of ideas, but I’m honing in, I think. I’d be happy with some feedback on the cannon, there. It’s too big, right?

In this configuration there’s more room for the crew in the back, but I’m wondering if it’d be too easy to climb up and kill them? There’s no way to attack the crew in game, so I’m guessing the thing would be fortified enough to protect them with its T7 hull…

Looks great so far. Does this thing run on coal to generate steam? You could have a furnace and boiler and a chaos dwarf shovelling coal. A couple of levers to control the steam to the wheels too maybe? ( its what i try to fit in im my iron demon attempts)

Thanks! Yes the intention was to keep the concept of a coal powered steam tractor, just like the FW one. There is a sort of tank underneath, to which I attached the chimney, I’m supposing that’s where the boiler is, guess it’ll need a sort of feed hole?

I don’t know much about steam engines, so I’ll have to just make something and hope people can suspend their disbelief. I’m a little bit limited by the bits I have available, but that’s part of the fun.

The latest thing I did was scrap the Fabelzel cannon and use one of the ones for the FW Iron Daemon, which I shortened and attached in the same place up front, I think it looks better. Also added a lever and a gas pedal up there, so now it looks the part of a little cockpit.

Next thing for sure is the coal container and the crew member with shovel. I’ll attempt to use this guy and exchange his axe head for a shovel head:

I think I’m up for the task now, with my newly fangled Blender skills :sunglasses:

I’d love to see what it is you’re working on, if you’re keen to share :eyes:

I added a container for coal, and a sort of hopper in which to shovel it to fuel the engine underneath the thing. I also cleaned up the controls as well as the cannon up front. So here’s the latest version:

And with some stand in crew:

I don’t know how much else I can do to make this thing better. I’m not head over heels in love with it, but I think it’s fairly good at this point.

Aaand I’ve gone full circle :see_no_evil: Got to thinking: would a wheel and crew swap, and a fancy hat chimney do the trick? It just might!

This one looks way more functional and not nearly as janky. Thomas the train face could be switched out for a raging bull maybe. I have two ideas for that

I think I need to place it a bit further forward for comedic effect - big hat Cole. Had to Google Cole Porter. That guy wrote 800+ songs :astonished:

and porters similar hats probably a bit obtuse

I love everything about this thread. Love the digital sculpts, and those AI concepts are wild!

So first off: this is how it ended up, and I’ve sent it to the printer’s, so it’s final  Thanks for input everybody.

However! I saw a guy contemplating an armorcast cauldron of blood as a sort of Big Hat Iron Daemon. And oh goodness! It’s close to perfect :astonished:

CauldronOfBlood

Difficult to find a spot for a crew, and the Khorne symbol would have to go, but damn. Yeah. Just thought I’d put it out there.

Any news on this now that Fab has stopped working on chorfs?

AI rules! The best part is that it looks like a really old catalogue picture.

That Blender sculpt is AMAZING! Good job there. I dug deep into the bits bag and came up with this for the Iron Daemon and Skullcracker. Did resin Hellcannon crew but big hat guys would work just as well.
