Condolences on the dice rolls, but you could chalk it up to the curse of newly painted models. Your guys will do better next time. I know wood elves all too well - I’ve been beaten by them my entire wargaming career
Was it glade riders who did in your iron daemon?
K’daai succumbing to a fireball Oh the irony
Drilled would be more beneficial on a larger unit, imo.
One of the things I’m quickly coming to realize again, is that it takes a considerable amount of time to paint a model. I’ve got 5more blunderbuses to go and only completed the commands for ax man unit and one hobgoblin hand to hand unit. Haven’t even started the sneaky gits, archers, earth shaker, general… can be tough to stay motivated. Especially with the limited fantasy folks around… any thoughts?
Temper your ambitions, first and foremost. For army painting, you’re going for overall impression, so cut as many corners as you possibly can.
Find a recipe you can reliably produce maybe a batch of five infantry every, or every other session.
More general: use the biggest brush you can get away with - for most of my stuff I use a CHONKY brush, I tell you, and it’s surprisingly accurate enough for the majority of the work.
Paint neatly, but don’t worry too much about errors in places that aren’t noticeable, and even so - go for a look that’s acceptable at like 3 feet, then you’re good to go.
Character models are what people tend to look at, so give them a little more love. It’s fun, too
I’ll keep going: share your progress here for feedback and encouragement.
Make sure to get in some games, so you have a steady recurring deadlines, that helps me immensely.
Remember that motivation is like a finger to activate your self discipline. You can’t rely on motivation to get things done. If you would like it done, make it happen
I choose a simplified painting scheme. With some shortcuts like painting less important details with speedpaints and layering only key colours. If you can save 15 min a model and you have to paint 60… That makes a big difference. I also compensate shortcuts im painting with some flashy bases.
Then I set weekly goals. Like 5 models a week. And then I Play only with painted models.
First painted list is the hardest. They you add a unit at a time.
Also… Start with models that cost morę points. Lol
Also finishing and army requires something morę that initial excitement. It requires regularity and discipline.
My hobgoblins for example… Simple drybrush on clothes, leyered skin and the bases carry the visial load.
I aim for minimum unit sizes, then switch to something else. Its really easy to add to units getting 10 to 12, 12 to 15…before you know it you have 40. Then split them in 2 and build 2 units of 40…haha!
Aim for legal 500 pts 1st and keep uping it sliwly at your pleasure. Plenty of time. Dont force yourself into a big manufacturing process, its meant to be fun not a punishment.
Works for me anyway
