Very nice. They just need some paint on them now to bring them to life. They can also be used as unit fillers on those bases.
Yep, thought about it and we’ll see
Cool weapon teams I like the variety of your models!
I like the variety too. I feel that some people care too much if there is a slight difference in size or style among the miniatures in an army. I mean, in real life there is quite some variety in people sizes and shapes too ^^ For me, it only enriches the living feel of the army and I hope that the future paint job and basing will tie them nicely together
So much inspiration in this thread. Conversion and green stuff skills are on another level
Anything painted recently denelian5?
@Oxymandias Thanks for the kind words! I went sledding on the last of January with my family and ended up breaking seven ribs and pucturing my right lung So I’ve been on sick leave from work and slowly recovering since then…
@Zoddtheimmortal I had planned to try to get some painting in (since I’ve been home alone) but haven’t really been in the shape to until this last week. I’ll at least try to wip up an entry for the Golden Hat, but I’m very good at procrastination so no promises
Oh my days @denelian5 !!! That’s mad!!! Glad to hear you are recovering but this sounds mega traumatic.
@Oxymandias For my body, quite ^^ My mind hasn’t taken the same amount of damage thankfully
This was my blood sacrifice to Hashut to ward your new hobby haven from evil (good?)
Really rough one. Glad you are getting better. Good luck with the g.h. entry
How I missed this thread! Amazing sculpts here. My preferences are Bullcentaurs and the hellcannon. Amazing!
Thank you very much! I haven’t been super active this last year with this thread, so missing it is no surprise
Get all your ribs put back together (humpty dumpty style) and show us more cool stuff! (Must be rough-excuse humour)
Im going to try and imitate 1 of your helm centaurs a bit (after a stupid interview). Trouble is i cant sculpt, so ill have to try something a bit different. I doubt i have anything worthwhile to trade you for them. I think @Oxymandias is going to make something similar too. Interesting times ahead…
So, Golden Hat is over and I didn’t win this time … But I still feel like a winner since I finished a miniature for the first time in forever!
So without further ado, here is my Golden Hat entry on the Siege Giant theme:
Cachtorr the Relentless
I’m not 100 % happy with everything, this is my first time ( :o ) painting fire and it could have ended up better. I was a bit pressed for time to finish in time for the competition so I decided to just go for it
I’m especially happy with my choice of colour for the rocks (I usually end up just painting rocks grey…). Over all on the basing I’m going for “ashen wasteland” with some cinders. I’ll be adding some sad looking tufts and maybe some burnt tree stumps in the future.
Regarding his club, I wanted to make it out as a burnt tree, or the remains of one. I tried to turn the sculpted moss into cinders, it kinda works but if I had more experience with painting fire osl it should have turned out even better. These pictures kinda don’t show it but there’s a sculpted squirrel on the club. It seemed a bit on the cute side so I tried to paint it as a burnt carcass, and I’m quite happy with the result^^
Comments, tips and critique are very welcome!
Great entry, love the colour scheme. Im glad G.H. gave you the kick you needed to finish a model
I was thinking of your blog the other day when i picked up one of my kids toy dragons, it look pretty much identical to 1 you used on a weapons team. How to train your dragon is it? There was a lot of detail on it it but the wings were too squishy i thought. Did you make a cast?
@Zoddtheimmortal Thanks! Yeah, it felt great to push through and get a model done^^
Yes, it’s a Gronkle from “How to train your Dragon”. Originally I think it came in a “bucket of dragons” set, but mine was bought as a single model from a broken pack in a toy store. As you say, the wings are a bit squishy but I don’t think it’ll be a huge problem on such a small model. I made a second one from scratch to match this one, and those wings feel much more rigid
Great entry! Yes agree this rocks are a really nice colour, I like the colour choice for the skin too
@GhraskDragh Thanks, me too
This one was actually one of my favorites. An interesting build and color scheme, and I really liked the use of the flames on the base which really catch the attention and show the motlen nature of the landscape. Well done!
Thank you, I like the sound of favourite! For some reason I always pictured my CDs as evil smurfs (colour wise)^^ And for some reason I like the old “warlock purple” for my more evil armies (did the same thing with Necrons once but never finished). The orange beard/hair has been an afterthought that I think work better and better the more I paint it.
As for basing I like what others do with lava, but it’s been done so many times I didn’t want to go there. Still, I wanted to emphasise the fire part of their nature in some way and thought a subtle ashen waste with traces of fire and cinders might work. As written above I plan to add some more elements like dry tufts and burnt tree stumps throughout the army bases to get the concept through These flames are bright flame horrors, I think I might go back to the osl and also add traces of flame behind them to add movement. We’ll see how it goes
