You’ve come to the right place, mate I though I was bad at BATG last year, but this time is even worse. I do have a few things primed at least, so I could get some painting done before the year ends. But no way I’ll be getting it down in the negative…

Dwarf MTO arrived just in time to still count in this god-awful BATG year.
Only way forward is up!
Alright, time to wrap up and see where it all went so horribly, horribly wrong.
First problem is me: I painted a grand total of 10 models this year - abysmal, even for my low standards. Then there was the purchases. Oh God, the purchases.
Biggest problem was Old World.
I remember the days of my foolish youth when I thought it wouldn’t be a huge issue for me. That’s 50 models added to my “finished” (read: purchases, not painted) Dwarf army. And only 3 are new sculpts!
My Chaos Dwarf legacy army, which I thought would not get any new models at all, got 22 models (25, when I count the crew separately, which I don’t).
To make matters worse, I fell back into my old habit of not even assembling my new stuff! Inexcuseable.
I even unfinished my truly finished Night Goblins again, by getting more fanatics (I didn’t have the new models yet) and also another 20 grots trough the Stormbringer partworks magazine
The magazine hasn’t been that bad, though. I mostly got terrain, which luckily I don’t count either (input=output applies of course)
My other weakness keeps being Warhammer Underworlds.
GW really screwed me over with the re-release of some old warbands with new rules, namely Zarbag’s Gitz. I really wanted those new cards. And I always wanted Mollog’s Mob. Thorns of the Briar Queen I had a soft spot for too, and of course I was too weak to get rid of the Skaven. The Witch Hunters were a given, and when GW released 2nd edition and I had to pull the trigger on the last season of 1st edition. Long story short, that’s another 32 models for the pile.
That were the big bads for 2024. Where does that leave me for 2025?
I’m still eyeing some of the Dwarf war machines. I also need Black Orc Warbosses on Wyvern and Chariot. And I’ll add Hobgoblin Khans on foot and Wolf. In theory, that should be it for Dwarfs, Chaos Dwarfs and Night Goblins (the Troll Hag maybe…). I’m already dreading the High Elf announcement. They’ll release some new characters and I guess I’ll get them. Also the Merwyrm. I sincerely hope GW isn’t cooking up something else for the army, cause that one is “finished” too. Underworlds will also remain a threat. I’m already hot for those new Skaven. Then there’s always the possibility for a cool model of the month, and I have a long diagnosed increased risk to suddenly buy a whole Squat gang for Necromunda.
You really should just buy these NOW so you can paint them next year!
In the words of the aged batg sage Shia Lebeefre.
“Sometimes you have to eat a year to yeet a year”
I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about it. BATG is as much of a sport as the next one and tanking a season to gain an advantage next year once you can’t reach the playoffs has a proud tradition
Painted models: 1
Total count: +123
To my own biggest surprise I actually managed to paint one last model this year.
It is a special project though and therefore has to remain hidden for now.
This then ends my Fifty Shapes trilogy. And just like the one with a very similar name, the whole thing quickly lost steam after the first instalment. Still, happy I could end with a painted model.
