Fifty shapes freed [BATG 2024]

We have come to the final act in the Fifty Shapes trilogy. The first one was a surprise hit. I painted a mid-sized Big Hat army, finished my Night Goblins and got into Warhammer Underworlds. Elated by the unexpected success, the producers quickly announced that a sequel was in the works. Like in any trilogy worth its salt, the sequel fell short of the expectations. They thought they had the formula cracked, but the magic wasn’t there. What before was fresh and exciting, became a shadow of the former glory. The story was predictable and derivative. Instead of being pushed forward and extended upon, the main arc cralled along and lost itself in side arms and dead ends. And everyone knew it was only there to set up the finale in the third act. Only in a few scenes it felt like those warm summer-evenings of the original had never ended. I un-finished and subsequently re-finished my Night Goblins, added new Underworlds warbands, painted some lone models and started with my Blood Bowl Team.
It’s up to the third one now.

Foiled again by my inability to pass on a good deal.

I fear there’s a good chance I’ll be getting issues 2 and 3 as well, and maybe select other issues if they keep getting sold in the wild.

Dear God, I really am the worst hobbyist.
Instead of making a dent in my PiLe Of OpPoRtUnITy (no reason to be cute, it’s a pile of shame, my shame, I’m ashamed) I didn’t paint shit since January and now - again - fell wallet first into some models.

Warhammer Underworlds keeps being my undoing and I got the nice Black Orc Boss for my Chaos Dwarfs. I also un-finished my Night Goblins. Again. The meta pushed me to get another 5 Fanatics (that was planned since before TOW, though, as they are also the last of the newer Gloomspite models I didn’t have. At least from the ones which are backwards compatible with RHFB)

*I’m not counting Zarbag’s Gitz as I already have them, have no desire to paint them again and will sell them off. I might also get rid of Spiteclaw’s Swarm and Thorns of the Briar Queen but maybe not so I’ll count them.

Sometimes I like to think back to when @chitzkoi asked whether I’m worried about my BATG because of TOW and I said “Not really”. LOL

Says right on the packaging. You’re meant to buy 15+ of each blister

Lol, 15 Youngrims as your slayers and 15 of the Thanes as Quarrelers. That’s a college fund right there.

Really can’t expect to offer me 20 Night Goblins for 11€ and me not buying them immediately.

Not counting the Lord on foot for the moment cause I already have a bunch of Thanes and Lords on foot and might not even build him. Will count if I do

Sounds like good fodder for a chorf conversion!

That’s true! Never did a classic Dwarf → Chaos Dwarf conversion. Maybe I should do that rite of passage at some point

Oi, completely forgot to post my haul from Essen SPIEL! Doing it now together with my acquisition of Wintermaw, the last Season of Warhammer Underworlds first edition.

So, GW had a huge Event store at Essen SPIEL. You got 10€ off from when signing up for the Newsletter, but FLGS prices would still beat that - so I went for the Hellcannon, since products in FW resin are usually not stocked by FLGS, at least not in Germany. 10€ off meant I got it for 54€. Acceptable. Really curious to see whether they retooled the whole thing, because the version in Finecast has an abysmal reputation.
I didn’t like either of the current event exclusive models (that Steel Rook and some Kroot hunter), but there was a special section of the store where they kept the real good stuff under wraps (they had a freaking Tau Manta and multiple Warlord Titans) and they guy chatted me up and showed me the excellent Kommissar. And since I have notoriously low discipline I caved and got him. But since I’m also a sneaky little git I went to another check out, dangled by subscription confirmation in front of the guy’s face and got the 10€ off again. At 18€ I don’t mind that little Kommissar at all. Cool model.
Now I hadn’t really planned on getting Wintermaw, I was hoping we’d get a box with a new Chaos Dwarf warband. But now with Embergard launching second edition, I felt like I had to pull the trigger on it, as I’m only part-owner of Nethermaze and it’s usually not at my place and I would like to be able to play all my warbands in their original state whenever I want. Plus we really needed a second set of boards and the rules in their updated form. And the warbands aren’t too bad either.

I feel better about my lack of BATG productivity this year after seeing everyone else adding new stuff to their collection  Need to see more painting tho now
