Now for something with slightly more effort put in (but not much more), here’s ten infantry for my Heresy Militia:
They include three fellows with servitor heads and improvised weapons whom I had intended to field as “Beastmasters” with the Goliath Servitors I painted a while back, but that plan is on hold so they’ll be running with the regulars now.

I’ve painted a Heresy Militia Utility Hauler.
This is a Necromunda Cargo-8 Ridgehauler.
The kit is a pig, so I left the wheels off for painting, the tray off for dual-using it as an armoured hauler, and tried to glue wire into the cab windows so I wouldn’t have to paint the crew - it turns out, getting the wire to stay in was even worse, and I had to paint the cab interior and driver anyway.
I also gave it the Heavy flamer is off the Heresy Solar Auxilia vehicle upgrade kit, and some extra wire antennas in the hope of giving some vertical protection to the plastic antenna (although I expect I’ll have to replace it eventually).
Despite having to use dreaded sub-assemblies, I enjoyed painting this: most of it was just weathering. Between assembly, priming, painting and sub-assembling, I have easily spent 10 hours altogether on this 65 point model: almost 10 minutes per point!
All that for just one off the pile. Still, it’s a centrepiece model so it counts a little extra in Shame Golf, and it’s an unfinished project box that’s no longer cluttering up my study.

Do you ever have one of those weeks where your car behaves erratically before you really need it to get your cat to the vet and then you’re scheduled for fairly major surgery and then you go to the hospital and they put you under and when you wake up they say they didn’t have to do anything it’s all fine and you’re not in any pain but a general anaesthetic messes with your head and while you’re in that state you somehow get into a genuinely gut-wrenching beef with your absolute favourite restaurant on social media because for some reason you thought they were different but no they’re exactly the kind of small business owners who begrudge every single dollar they have to spend doing anything decent for their staff and customers and so to stay off social media you paw through your collection and look for something it’ll be okay if you mess it up and you finally find something where you’re like “why isn’t this painted?”

This one isn’t quite just another little guy, although she is a little guy:
I’ve painted up my Captain Sargotta model, who can play the role of Force Commander in my Heresy Milita or Astra Militarum.
I’ve used the same colours as I did on my House Greim officer - lots of clean white, blues and greys so she stands out from the crowd.
I had to paint her separately from her hover-command-station, which was a bit of a pain, but I’m happy with the final result.

Got any closeups of the Zone Mortalis terrain? I haven’t started painting any of mine and I’m torn between getting it done fast and going slow to highlight all of the greebles and screens, etc. I’m sure there’s some kind of balance…

Thank you! I’m really happy with my progress at the moment - I’m partially motivated by wanting to outrun the Vostroyan Made-to-Order which is going to arrive 40-strong at some point, and partially by “I took time off work for this surgery and I’m not going to waste it”.
(I also haven’t forgotten about that big box of legs but I think it’s just going into the bitz box until I build something out of them).
I don’t have any closer pics of the ZM terrain at the moment, and it’s in a tub underneath my other WIP projects just now, but I’ll fish it out and take some step-by-step photos next time I get a chance to paint some.
I think the secret to doing big projects is “do the bare minimum except for one thing” and in this case it’s the rust on the pipes up top. That’s the only part of the kit I’m giving more than two coats of paint.
I’m actually regretting the colour scheme a little - because it might end up a little busy when I put a table together - but I can always give the whole thing an oil wash or something after completing it.
Speaking of the Vostroyan MTO, I painted most of this test fellow a couple of weeks ago:
I had intended to paint a full squad before basing him, but really haven’t felt the pull. I tried a few new techniques on it, but while they have resulted in a very nice look they’re not very fast. I’m just not really in the mood to do “bulk good” at the moment - it’s bulk OR good.
So, before I took him and his friends off the desk for now I painted his base.

Okie-dokie, I’m still plugging away at the “why isn’t this painted?” stuff, which has of course led me here:
Pretty much where I started painting again. In 2019, my then-girlfriend (now wife) pointed out that I had a big set of shelves full of miniatures and bits that I wasn’t really doing things with. She asked “Why have them if you’re not going to play with them?”
So of course, I started painting and collecting at full speed by pulling out my WHFB Night Goblin collection, which included three Swamp Trolls that I’d originally grabbed to run in a Chaos Warrior army. After some reading, I thought it’d be cool to collect an all-Troggoths army for Age of Sigmar, and finished my first wave of units before running out of enthusiasm:
These Troggoths have languished half-done in my pile of shame since then, only the green and blue finished. I’ve periodically pulled them out and thought about working on them, but never got it done.
However, this week I rectified that. Cygor Brown contrast paint is doing a lot of heavy lifting. They are done, and I have only 6 assembled but unprimed Rockgut Troggoths left to paint if I want to finish that project. They’re not in the “to paint soon” tray at the moment - the weather isn’t good enough for priming - but they might end up there before the end of the year.

Lovely slayers, very different from your usual fare.
IMO you bought a pile of bits. 
you could count them as +1 when they become a full model or count them as 0 when you build and then paint them.
What a crazy run here. I was 30 posts behind and the swing in numbers is mental! Love the progress, encourage the impulses. This is BATG sports at its finest.
Death guard dread is a highlight for me and that massive necromunda vehicle. Nobody could accuse you of finding your negatives in a batch of skellingtons as I am known to do.
Sometimes you buy a tank and paint a character, other times the reverse. What a ride and all with a vostroyan doom bomb looming.

I think that’s what I’ve settled on. I’ll be able to build some of them, but honestly I have no idea how many - and I won’t until I start. I think that’s the best approach.
Thanks, it was a pretty wild week! Things are looking up now, though.
I’ve made a possibly-poor choice and decided that the next addition to my Militia army is going to be another squad of 20 infantry. This of course means that I’ll have to add FORTY models to the pile because I haven’t been able to get hold of Skitarii Vanguard heads otherwise.
So, here’s twenty on the pile:
Two sets of Skitarii, from which I will be clipping the heads and I promise I’ll try and offload the Ranger parts on eBay to get the count back down.
Next up, I’ve found a fun group to play regular Heresy games with, and one of them decided to hand me a box of Genestealer Cult Neophyte Hybrids to help me along:
Unfortunately I forgot he’d offered them and I’ve ordered two more boxes of them, so my progress past net 0 is about to get completely wiped.

Recent painted update:
While pondering the next expansion for my Heresy Militia (disregarding all the unpainted models that are still waiting for attention), I came across a potential rules combo that might go nicely, and it involves a Legion Overseer.
I haven’t figured out what Legion looks best with my Militia, so I took a few opinions and two of the from-left-field suggestions that came up were Emperor’s Children and Imperial Fists. I have never painted anything from either legion, I figured I’d paint one of each and see if I enjoyed it:

It does mean that I now have five painted candidates to see if I like the colour scheme embedded in my Militia infantry:
I somehow don’t feel closer to making any kind of a decision. The Death Guard are probably easiest to paint (and are nominally my main Heresy Legion) but I don’t think they look great next to the militia - they both have a different off-white that clashes when you look at them in-person.
I also got a solid day of painting in and finished up one of my Militia trucks (AKA Genestealer Cult Goliath truck):
There’s another one about halfway done that I was painting side-by-side until I decided I wanted to have one finished for a game last night, and focussed on finishing one of them.
It took me about the same amount of time as the Utility Hauler, despite being about half as big:
There’s a reason I need to work for motivation to get vehicles painted.

Actual update:
This weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a doubles Horus Heresy event. I hadn’t been able to commit well in advance, but I was paired up at the last minute - with one of the only other Militia players in my city!
We had a great time, and our armies were very complementary: mine was full of transports and objective grabbers/deniers, while his was full of artillery with a little bit of mobility. I had to paint a single flamer-toting Helot and magnetise everything to get it all into a single rack-based carrying case.
I was very happy to explore a few new things - putting my Force Commander in with a 20-model Levy squad whose job was to soak up wounds, for example. Great fun, and probably won us the first game. The command squad with plasma gun & dual pistols on the lieutenant was definitely over-equipped and did more wounds to itself than to enemy models.
The two armies did quite well at the objective grab/denial mission in round 1 (we covered a lot of ground), did okay but not well enough at the Intelligence-based mission in round 2 (Militia have bad Intelligence, and poorly at the unit destruction mission in round 3 (we left a lot of models with 1 or 2 models left).
Ultimately we went 1-2, and got the “runner-up Traitor wooden spoon” award of some new dice because the actual Traitor wooden spoon team had already received another award.
I had a great day.
