I got a wave of inspiration and decided to test out a colour scheme, so I painted five Horus Heresy Death Guard:
I absolutely cheated my way to victory with these fine lads. I started with Wraithbone all over, then:
- shoulders and bolters Vallejo Gunship Green
- skin in Darkoath Flesh
- leather in Army Painter Hardened Leather
- metals in Vallejo Copper and Vallejo Steel
- sponge weathering with Rhinox Hide
- cover the whole thing in diluted AP Strong Tone
I got them done in a pair of afternoons; one for the slightly-darker test model and one for the other four and basing.
Some of you may already have noticed this, but I don’t actually collect Death Guard. It’s not on my project list. I just had them lying around from my Sons of Horus but I’ve very much gone off that project - the colour scheme I chose is just too fussy to replicate.
I don’t think I’m going to call these guys a project, for now it’s just going to be these five guys. For some reason I don’t have any of the mkVI right side shoulder pads (?!) even though I didn’t use them to build Sons of Horus. These five borrowed shoulder pads came off Heresy vehicle sprues, and I’m pretty sure I don’t have enough to finish the squad. Also not enough bare heads but that’s a separate issue that can be easily rectified.
Anyway, that’s the long story. The short story is maaaybe my Heresy Militia are going to get some friends and five off the pile.
