I am going to try and make a resin 3D print of this wonderful model for a friend. Does anyone here have any good advice on how to get the best supports on this particular model?
I am used to printing pre-supported minis so my skill level is basically to stick it in Lychee and hit the auto support button 
and then hope for the best.
Supports is not something you can generically discuss. Support guides and tips are abundant online. i fear you will probably not get a lot of responses here…
I do a lot of 3D printing, but 99% of the time I go with auto-generated or pre-existing supports for 3D prints. Even when I do manual support generation I’m pretty inexperienced with what would constitute ‘good’ settings for any of the various options.

For the train I have some manually rotated automatically supported files for the train I can share if you wish.
I went the auto-support route and asked Reddit for a sanity check of the auto supports that come out of Lychee. It worked and prints came out fine.
