Slaughterers Unleashed

So as described above, my army will be split into sections, removed from plastic bases and put into dioramas.

I’ve made some great progress, both in construction and deciding how it will work.

So the idea will be to attempt a very basic version of the chaos AoS terrain.

I was going backwards and forwards for a long time on whether it should be outside or inside an enemy stronghold. I decided the wall you’ll see will be inside the enemy base.

If it were outside I could’ve done ruined CD siege equipment and junk. But they would’ve effectively broken in then turned around for a photo!

Anyways here is the core build and spacing. I’m missing most of the units and it will be different heroes etc.

The wall will be ruined in sections, but not a whole load of rubble around (no space).

Also I’ll be adding about 200 skulls minimum

I came across this Reddit photo which was obviously trying to capture the mood of the hellcannon art, which has inspired me greatly for the overall feel of what I want the base of the diorama to be. With loads of spikes and twisted metal and skulls. Potentially even a road made of skulls across the front, as I found a cool embossed roller for doing that

The second diorama (i.e. other half of the army) doesn’t need to be in any way connected of course, but probably I’ll carry on the wall.

Not an update as such, just collecting thoughts.

I found a suitable axe (with a little converting) for my CD lord. Suitably Daemonic

Plus an inspirational piece of art for what I’ll make the tormentor bombard look like. Or at least try to.

I’m making excellent progress on the fireglaives Immortals.

But for now, a little something to help the engineer. The front end of the telescope will be painted as an eye.

This is all a goldmine of awesome inspiration!! Absolutely love all of this. I can’t wait to see more, please keep it coming!

I’ll take a photo of the fireglaives tomorrow

But for now, I’ve tried a new colour scheme for the second unit. Something a bit more fun (will make more sense when you see the fireglaives).

It’s Deathstroke themed. I tried the orange but it wasn’t working. Every model will have the half red half black helmet

If anyone is curious

Reds:
Base - Evil Sunz Scarlet
Layer & wash - Khorne red
Highlight - Troll slayer orange

Scales:
Base - Warlock bronze
Wash - Khorne red
Highlight - Stormhost silver

Happy to have got these guys virtually finished before new stuff arrives.

Quite pleased with how they came out, however the black has no highlight other than the silver. So it’s quite flat looking really. And the red trim has no shading. So I may revisit. I’ll add a shield from the Helsmiths kit to the champion.

Ignore the basing, they’ll be taken off their bases at some point.

I think the chaos helmets came out great.

Oh yes,

You can tell this is a Grimstonefire unit from a mile away

Love the black armour along side the silver and also the higher head on a stick

Much much kudos for getting that done before the new stuff comes

Managed to revamp the hellcannon a bit, which is still one of my favourite models.

Also my Iron Daemon. I seem to have lost one crew member but I have a complete second set of hellcannon crew so he fits in perfectly imo.

Lastly one of my Bullcentaurs, also revamped a bit.

I really like your basing style, very evocative

Finally got to see how well my conversion worked. I like it, a real touch of chaos

Also another BC

And my “tormentor bombard” chassis. I wanted the gun to be wide so I spaced out the frame, also slimmed down the wheels. I’ll add some spikes to the front, and possibly do some star rims (pimp my ride)

Can’t wait to see how this bombard is going to end up, great job on the conversion !

This is fantastic!, Love the little additions you are making that add so much!

Pretty much done. I might add in some tiny spikes here and there, and tidy the flash line on the muzzle.

Then paint in several sub assembly’s. I’m happy for this to stand next to the hellcannon though.

I was tempted to put stars on the wheels, but I think it may just distract the eye on this scale.

Ooh that’s so cool!

Been giving some thought to the rocket launcher. Not that I own one yet, but I’ll built some sort of loading frame/crank mechanism on both sides as they are quite high up and I’m not just going to do the easy option of a ladder or slave ogre.

Also, need some ammo crates! I’ll decorate/ reinforce the outsides of the boxes. I’ll try and get the black and White stark industries logo on there somewhere

Grim Stone Fire, you have outdone even yourself with this latest offering my friend.

I really like the demonic elements you’ve added to this, very reminiscent of the hellcanon especially with the chains too. In fact I think it’s because it’s so reminiscent of the hellcanon it feels like it needs to be chained down to ground too  like it will escape at any minute.

I like what you’ve done with the wheels, I’m guessing there’s no trick other than being brave enough to slice through cutting off bits and matching up afterwards?

The hardest part was trying to make the wheel halves level after filing, as there would be big gaps. I flooded the gaps between the tread with poly cement to try and blend it. Generally worked.

However, I realised in hindsight I need to be smarter lining up the two halves so the spokes align on the inside.

In my display, when eventually it’s all finished, this will be sitting right next to the hellcannon. So I wanted it to look themed. I need to figure out a crew solution though as I don’t like the one with hands on hips.

Nothing too crazy with this one.
I needed to get a feel for how it looks built, and what options there are. I did make some minor conversions

Extended lower legs and separated the hip joints, adds about 5mm to height.

Added an extra flame ontop

Removed smoke from non firing arm

Added a spacer under each shoulder pad to raise them about 2mm. And added some spikes

Nice changes, really subtle but I like the impact you get from them. Especially the height your getting from the adjustments to the legs.

I’ve literally just logged on now to post my pics too and I’ve gone for an identical pose  what do you think of the kit in general? I loved putting it together
