As others have done, my thoughts on the new models.

This guy needs the gems trimmed off the beard and a much more daemonic weapon. Overall a lovely model, but I will need to think how I reimagine Mardak the Slaughterer to make him updated but unique. This model isn’t that.

This… The metal areas need more detail and the rider needs to be replaced. I don’t need another sorcerer on tarus and I don’t like the other mounted helsmith

These guys look far better on Xanders edit. I’d need to replace the shields, perhaps increase beard length and replace all the weapon heads with daemonic versions. But overall I like them a lot! I’m debating giving them bare arms.

Blunderbussers and the flame throwers. Blunderbussers need longer beards
Flame throwers need masks for the flame blow back, extra armour etc on their arms and flames off the ends of the guns

Hobgoblins… Not a fan of the hobgrots, I’m debating using kruleboyz.

Bull centaurs. Probably I’ll combine the versions. Have the bare arms on torso with armour. Plus drop the heads a fraction to make them hunched. I like the models and their scale

Not sure if I’ll sell my FW ones.

I’m thinking rework both of the artillery (obviously I’ll get one of each). Slim down the wheels, spikes on tread, stars on outside. Potentially put a carved down bloodthirster face on the front plate, depending on scale. Maybe extra spikes. Gun to have hellcannon type faces.

This guy might need to have something more steam punk on his back, and either some chaos runes or Daemon flesh parts. Plus extra flames. Otherwise it’s good.

I am very tempted to see if somehow I could scale this model up to double the size to replace the giant I have…

Beyond that, I don’t anticipate making a huge army. As it’s all going to be contained within a few dioramas.

Seeing as this is sitting in the finished models section on here… We’ll call it wishful thinking for now

I’ve been doing some thinking into what I plan to collect. It will be split into 5 groups

Diorama group 1

2 despots. Intriguing… - new models
1 sorcerer - already own, unpainted
1 Hellsmith - already own, unpainted
1 Battle standard bearer

20 Zharrdron hw & shield - new models
20 Zharrdron spear and shields
28 Immortals (Infernal guard) with fireglaives
Dominator - new model (with cannons)
New tormentir bombard
Iron Daemon - already own, painted
3 FW bullcentaurs
10 hobgrots. Scattered around
Hellcannon - already own, painted

Diorama group 2

1 Despot
2 sorcerers - already own 1, unpainted
1 hero - one with blunderbuss
1 Hellsmith - already own, unpainted

35 Immortals (Infernal Guard) Double hand weapons! Because why not

15 blunderbuss
10 flame throwers
6 bull centaurs - new
New rocket launcher
Dominator - new model (with 2x hw)
Dreadquake mortar
10 hobgrots. Scattered around

Diorama 3
Drazhoath

Diorama 4
New Taurus, converted for a new Mardak the Slaughterer (my Tyrant)

Diorama 5
New giant…

By having very clearly defined groups and goals it helps me a lot to see where the end is. No more, no less.

Immortals - Infernal Guard

I have some thoughts around my “infernal guard”, which I guess is the first part of this project.

Potentially:

  • Repaint the armour to black, and the scales to gold.
  • Use chaos warrior shields for fireglaives dudes
  • Use hobby chain wrapped around some weapon arms.
  • Swap out all heads for chaos space marine chosen/ possessed heads!
  • I’ll be using mostly dwarf Hammerers for the hand weapons, but with blades made from plasticard. Think uruk hai cleavers. Nothing fancy, no Daemon blades for these guys

Zharrdron

These guys will mostly be as is, except for weapon head swaps. Because the Immortals will bring the Chaos to the party, these guys don’t need to look so Chaotic, even keeping the hats. However:

  • Swap all weapon heads to chaos/ daemon weapon bits
  • Try and bring some small spikes here and there
  • Shield swap, potentially to chaos warriors.

Blunderbussers

  • Pretty much unchanged, but with a few spikes here and there. Better beards

Flamethrowers

  • Daemon face masks as a shield for flames
  • More armour etc on the arms, probably spiky.

Bull centaurs

  • All 12 will have bare arms. A mixture of double hand weapons, glaives, maces on chains.
  • All with faces showing
  • Potentially some spiky armour plates
  • Potentially some weapons chained to wrists.

Here is the first concept model for the combat Immortals.

The bits used
Infernal guard, stormvermin halberd, hammerer arms, skaven pickaxe. Chaos space marine head

I will replace almost all the heads on my fireglaives ones. Ideally with the possessed chaos space marine heads (not a cheap option).

The colour scheme will be black armour with silver highlights, extremely plain. Gold scales. White beards!

I imagine these being the “old guard”. The longbeards equivalent (maybe even a few female longbeards lol). As I can’t do black or grey beards with all the black armour.

They will bring a lot of the Chaos factor to the army.

Great concept model, can’t wait to see the rest of the old guard conversions

A very interesting conversion of these. Great bits selection and well put together! I will be watching this space with interest.

I absolutely love this colorscheme idea ! Can’t wait to see how it turns out. Also, great conversion, when you say infernal guard which mini are you refering to ?

It’s based on the FW Infernal guard, with a sculpted beard and belt.

I won’t take photos of each model, I’ll do ten at a time in future.

Overall I like this, the gold and red offsets the coldness of the black white and silver. I might repaint the helmet pipes, if I can decide a suitable colour.

Bringing the Chaos back into Chaos Dwarfs! I’d like the overall feel of the army to be as if the Hellcannon had a full themed range alongside.

Oh ok thank you so much for the reply, I was checking IG from 4th edition :hatoff:

Cool early results !

So a small update.

I’ve got the first 20 ready for painting.

10 with double hand weapons (incl musician)

10 with fireglaives.

I’ll take a photo when all 20 are finished.

Also, so I don’t forget in the future I have an early idea for a Diorama base/ background

The first Diorama, for simplicity, will be an iron wall with metal Daemon faces etc across the back. Above the wall will be a simple background of a red sky.

On the base will be a junkyard of rusty metal! So it will all tonally blend to browns/ orange, just interesting textures and shapes. Just need to try and not make it look like 40k.

Small update, these will be the two Immortal Champions.

Still looking for a suitable shield.

I lost the regular champion arm so had to convert.

The one on the left is fireglaives champion, on the right is double hand weapon champion. So neither armed correctly but who care.

The bull thing on his hat is a little tall I guess… But I think it looks cool.

I also figured out the display base dimensions needed.

60 x 30 x 30

Also my FW bull centaurs, which I’ve added details on the back of two, the third will stay as is, though I need to adjust his head around the horns, and potentially replace the horns on the left one. And probably add spikes onto all three

Grim, your sculpting and conversions were always on point, good to see nothing changed

Ive seen a bunch of your stuff over the years. You always make nice helms and your units have great character

Cheers.

These immortals with 2 hw will be on a whole new level for me. But I’m loving the chaos space marine helmets. They are looking evil/ chaotic, which is exactly what I was going for. However, it’s a lot of work.

By the end of this weekend I’ll have all 28 fireglaives assembled and 20 2 hw ones.

So here are the 28. Why not 30 you ask? Because I need all the units to fit inside a defined space and this is a decent shaped unit.

A few minor green stuff bits to do. The helmets (including breathing hoses) will be painted black with silver highlights.

The paint scheme will be the same as the test model above, black armour (silver highlights, not red), white beards and gold scalemail

Bringing the “chaos” back into Chaos Dwarfs.

Been putting some thought into the Zharrdron shields. I like the heavy block iron feel of the chaos warrior/ skullcrushers shields, and the Darkoath marauders, but they are just too big.

I don’t like the layered shields the Zharrdron come with, and I want the look to be a lot more chaos/ daemonic.

So I will convert all the shields that come in the kit. Ideally to make all 40 individual.

If they are carrying Daemon bound weapons, they can have a Daemon bound shield

Early designs. I’d like to design a few more where it’s implying damnation (for example the pincer on the skull, and the one with skull in mouth is like the Hellsmith is also damned)

So although it will probably be the last CD project I do, until any future releases from GW for the range come, I’ve been giving thought to the Mega Gargant I’ll make

Forgive the very crude sketch here, I will attempt to scale up the dominator to a minimum of two times bigger, maybe three. At least this way he’s going to fit into the look of the collection. The mark on the side would be for scale reference a regular CD

He will have a mechanical “drill whip” in each hand, where the entire thing is one long flexible drill, which will go underground through the base at points.

I thought for the sake of history it would be good to track the army I used to own. All of this has been sold.
